  • What's it like flying the Cirrus? I'm going to be going to college for aviation soon and I'm going to be flying an SR20 as soon as classes start.

  • @Agora2021 It's a lot of fun and very easy to fly. You'll love it.

  • @rdfelty

Alright, I hope so. Nervous as hell, but excited too.

  • @mauiflightacademy I would LOVE to fly a Cirrus in Maui!!

  • Amazing camera work - congratulations and nice flying. What year is your cirrus if I may ask?

  • @francvasquez I think it might be a 2002. I rent so I would have to double-check.

  • very nice landing :)

  • @DieVerruecktenFreaks Thanks! Appreciate it. I'm learning.

  • What a delight to watch. Thanks for sharing and regards from Switzerland.

  • @kleinjogg Hello Switzerland!! Thanks for watching and for writing. Wish I could fly there. :) I love Switzerland!

  • Nice Zulus.

  • @MynameisElliott Thanks. I love my Zulus!!

  • how does your camera pick up the com?

  • @cuanwilliam There is a video on my channel called Recording My Flights, but in short I use a patch cable available at Aircraft Spruce which plugs into any of the plane's headset jacks. Let me know if you need more details and thanks for watching.

  • rdfelty, how do you find that sidestick compared to a yoke?

  • @breaker1237547 I like them both. Mostly I like the side stick cause it gets out of your way and your arm is supported the whole time.

  • Hi Rick, great videos, absolutely love Southbridge. I think the restaurant just opened for the season.

Maybe we'll see each other at the diner sometime.

    Jeff

    N20172

  • @jdbar001 Yes, I need to get back there now that the diner is open again! I've only eaten there once and that was when I drove there to meet someone. The flight in the video was in the winter and they had just closed.

    - Rick

  • @jdbar001 Did you see the tornado damage there? Any word on whether things are open?

  • it has very tight spring-loaded stick, nice electronic checklist, very percise. I love it. I use it fo training

  • @MrFlyguy124 Thanks for the comment. I love this plane as well.

  • Well Anyway, it gives nice view on avionics...

  • @savarzei Thank you. I got to visit France again a few weeks ago. Great country.

  • The angle of the camera is terrible, it feels like the plane has a too steep appoach towards the landing strips and that a crash will happen !

  • @savarzei I agree with you. I had the camera up too high on this one. I also think I was probabl forcing the plane down a bit, which makes it look even more extreme. This whole video recording of flying is a learning process...hopefully getting better in my more recent videos.

  • @savarzei are you kidding me...his videos are the absolute best quality cirrus videos and the camera angles are perfect. Keep doing what you're doing rdfelty!

  • i thought it was a flight simulater at first

  • @rapsaper I know what you mean. When I shot some of my earliest videos in the SR20, I was amazed at how "real" everything looked. The plane let's in a lot of light even on cloudy days and the HD camera really takes advantage of that.

  • Nice video. Just wondering, when a person lands at an unfamiliar airport, where do they know where to park? Is it just park in an open spot or something else?

  • @gallardoking Good question. If there is no obvious place to park, you can sometimes ask on the Common Frequency for guidance. Some places have a person or two ready to help you if you are clearly new to the airport. Mostly there is usual a clear place to go unless the airport is very busy that day. The ground is usually painted with parking markers.

  • nice landing

  • @fabricioflorestal Thanks for the nice comment and for watching.

  • What are you using for an audio cable?

  • Would someone direct me to a good place to learn the communication. That's one of the things I'm struggling in.

  • @Dominoes282 There are two places people go for home training... Sporty's and the King Schools. I think both of these companies have lessons specifically about radio work. I would also recommend going to LiveATC.net when you have time, and just listening to a smaller airport's communications. A Class Delta would be ideal. Not too much chatter, and not too fast. Mostly just the basics. Hope that helps.

  • @rdfelty Thanks I have kings schools and Im going to look back at the communications and thanks for the liveATC.net idea thanks. Oh, do they have some feeds of class Gulf airspace? Thanks

  • @rdfelty If I may suggest, listen to Van Nuys Airport (KVNY) on Live ATC.net. Busiest General Aviation airport in the country with anything from vintage tail draggers to 737 BBJ landing and taking off about every minute.

  • i have come to miss the cirrus now that im working on my commercial multi engine rating the work load has increased dramatically and i miss the autopilot and glass cockpit of the cirrus

  • @Joe22822 It's a great plane. Really fun to fly!

  • Comment removed

  • hey when you touch down you decrease the mixture?

  • @levygonz Most of my flying is basically at sea level so I don't really have to do much with the mixture. Except to pull the mixture out to kill the engine when I park. :)

  • Wow, you don't often see someone who puts so much effort into videos of them flying. Really love what you're doing. Keep it up!

  • @FlightSimmer007 Shooting and editing was a career and hobby before I learned to fly. So it's a fun mix and people seem to enjoy watching them. Thanks for the great comment.

  • This video gave me the flying bug. I know what I'm doing on my next day off. :)

  • whats your total time what license are you on?

  • @appleglory Around 150 hours and I just have had my PPL for a year or so.

  • @rdfelty cool. Im nearing about 120hours now in a pa28-161 /181 im aiming to also get my CPL and MEIR with a night rating. What about you?

  • is that a camera on the window on the left?

  • @chris5812341234 Yes, that's a Flip Mino HD. I still use it, but I wouldn't recommend it now. That's the camera that's giving you the over the wing shots in the video. Now I also use Panasonic and Sony HD cameras. Look for my Recording My Flights video for more info and ask me more questions if you have any.

  • @rdfelty thanks

  • wow you actualy have the heater on ive flown the cirrus for a year and ive never had to use the heater (i live in south florida) i love the sr20 amazing plane doing one of my solo flights tomorrow in it i have 10 hours of solo time and will have my pvt and instrument in a few weeks

  • @Joe22822 Actually the problem that day was that the heating ducts were stuck in the closed position. That's why I'm wearing a winter coat and gloves, because I had been warned that it would be quite cold in the cockpit. There are only a couple of videos in my channel where I'm this bundled up! It was a fun day of winter flying. I agree the SR20 is a wonderful plane. Have fun flying tomorrow and all the best on your training. Sounds like you're on the fast track!

  • @Joe22822 DCA?

  • OK your comment made me laugh a lot. It's not everyday that someone gets to really express what we all are feeling. I totally agree! LOL

  • Every time I'm about 500agl I think to myself "what in god's name am I doing? This is absolutely insane."

  • Your videos, all of them, are AMAZING, both contents and quality wise - please, keep posting them! You should release a DVD with your flights, I'd definitely buy a copy! Outstanding work!!!

  • Also looked like it was a little bumpy on the way in

  • @packerfan084 Yes, as I recall it was a little bumpy that day.

  • I love cirrus's. I also cant wait untill college. when i get to fly them for my degree in aviation flight science! it is going to be awsome!

  • @packerfan084 I start my SR20 flight training in a few weeks! I'm getting a degree in aviation flight science also!

  • @bmp720 Where are you going to college?

  • @packerfan084 Western Michigan University, hbu?

  • @bmp720 Hahaha awesome. Thats where i'll be going!

  • Very nice video and wonderful job. Would it be possible for you to have a camera with a close up to the glass displays (that would be awesome). Thank you very much for sharing and please keep them coming.

  • I have actually thought about a camera aimed at the PFD and MFDs. Light reflections might make that tricky at times, but probably worth a shot.

  • great video with the multiple cameras and voice recording. loving the glass display also.

  • gotta love the lightspeed zulu!

  • thanks for great video, the cirrus is the greatest plan for general aviation

  • awesome plane!!! Do you rent or own?

  • Excuse my ignorance, but if the head wasn't working, why would that mean you had to bundle up? I'm ex-Navy and thought the "head" was the toilet!

  • Thanks for the catch. I changed the word head to the correct word "heat". The head (if there was one) would probably have been working. :)

  • TEN TEN TEN !

  • I'll assume that TEN is a rating and thank you for the comment. :)

  • Another great video there Rick. How long was the flight from OWD?

  • Not long at all. 15-20 minutes to get the airport in sight. Thanks for commenting.

  • Another great rdfelty production. I just wish youtube had the bandwidth to support the HD feature they created. I guess I should go back to watching videos at 3am.

  • Does it help at all if you let it buffer a bit and then play the video?

  • Hey Rick I really enjoy watching your videos. The quality is amazing. I have a question. Do you know how much the Cirrus SR20 is worth brand new for the model you are flying?

  • Thanks. With all the great videos you do, your comment means a lot. I just wish I could make more dramatic visual trips to equal the ones you get to take. I looked into it. Online it looks like you could get a similar year SR20 used for $250, but a new one would probably be closer to $400 I'll bet. I could be way off since I'm not actually shopping for one right now. Ha ha :)

  • I am not sure if I understand your conversation correctly, but did you say $250 to $400 per hour for this Cirrus?

  • I think I was throwing around purchase prices, or guesses anyway. No, at Norwood this one rents for $225/hour.

  • WHAT CAMERA IS THAT?! also i have a HD camcorder, however when i upload in 1080p it doesnt have the same option that your video does, to change it from 1080 to 720, how do you do that? does it have to go thru editing software and be compressed to 1080? thanks nice landing too, i want a cirrus lol

  • Great landing Rick. Sorry to hear that the restaurant was closed. At least you got some hours after being down for a while. Good to hear that your back up and I shall be heading up next week. Im gonna try to make some sort of video attept to post. --Andrew

  • yep lol, now it's very clear :)

  • XaircraftX - I suspect you were watching before YouTube had encoded the better quality versions. Immediately after upload, you can watch a very low-res version. Then later there is a normal quality, and the last to finish is the HD. Try it again now and let me know if it isn't looking better.

  • Nice vid Rick! is that blurry video quality normal?

  • its more that likly because of youtube, are you watching it in 720 or 1080. if the answer is 1080, try watching it in 720, the qualtiy of video is still stunning
