I loved this scene... best in the film I thought Depardieu speaks so beautifully in French, when he has to act in English he loses so much of his gift, (though i still love him.) I really like the fact that this film utilised his beautiful voice in it's native tongue.
Mind you, the last scene of this film is something special too. I don't care what anyone says, Depardieu's the boss.
@nihilusJ90 Alexandre Dumas pere wrote over 400 historical novels exposing world tyranny(Roman Catholic Empire). Alexandre Dumas pere was born near Paris in 1802 and 'coincidentally' in 1902 The Society of Gesu(Jesuits) were expelled from France for the 3rd and last time. The Society of Jesu(Jesuits) have been expelled from 83 countries and their pope is ARAMIS AND HE IS ALSO KNOWN AS THE COUNT OF MONTE CHRISTO(GENERAL OF THE JESUITS).
@nihilusJ90 "The high office of the President has been used to foment a plot to destroy the American's freedom and before I leave office, I must inform the citizen of this plight."
@nihilusJ90 'I do not like the reappearance of The Jesuits ... If ever there was a body of men who merited damnation on earth and in hell, it is this society of Loyola's. Nevertheless, we are compelled by our system of religous toleration to offer them an asylum.' John Adams, 2nd President of the U.S.A
@nihilusJ90 these passages are from page #17 of The Companions of Jehu written by Alexandre Dumas pere--"Sir, I have heard speak of the Companions of Jesus," replied the magistrate with his jeering smile. "The Jesuits, you mean? That is not what I am seeking, sir."....Elisha consecrated Jehu King of Israel, on condition that he exterminate the house of Ahab; Elisha was Louis XVIII; Jehu was Cadoudal; the house of Ahab, the Revolution.
I once saw Gerard in B&Q, in Paris. My wife was so overwhelmed, that she accidently spilled some mushy peas on his loafers. He was NOT happy and reeled of a list of expletives, in French.
I later played back his tirade, which I had recorded on my dictaphone, to a French work colleague and it roughly translated as ' get off at the next stop, you stupid paki bitch'.
@duroeno1 If that's true, he is no better than the top fashion designer who was sacked recently for his racist tirade...already forgot his name. No matter how bad your day is you have no right to belittle someone based on their race or skin, anger has many forms, and the least personal is always the one that works best.
Thank you so much for posting this scene on here. It is one of my favourites from any film. The way Gerard Depardieu plays and speaks with such sincerity gets me every time. He is an outstanding actor.
one of my most favorite scenes in a movie. so glad to have found it here. And Bebe Neuwirth laughing in the background is classic when you know her character.
his mischieviousness and the two slavering pals always crack me up and the reeling in of the old bat with the big hair -"no trees for the poor lost poor children" classic -that old actress should have got an oscar
I never seem to get tired of watching this scene!!! Gives me sooo much!!! It means a lot that you've put this here on Youtube... Laughter and tears at the same time!! ...

the poem in spanish:
Una vez oí el sonido del viento en los arboles
una vez oí el sonido de las risas de los niños
y llore lagrimas calientes por los arboles perdidos
dejad que los niños se acerquen a los arboles y tendrán esperanza dijo. (Dijo Andy)
pero no hay árboles para los pobres niños perdidos
la basura es su juguete, la desesperación es el juego
solo al caos pueden trepar.
