The lyrics are "passion looks like a painting" which I feel to be pretty apt. He wasn't referring to the girl but the feelings - makes me think of synaesthesia, how you can see what you feel in colours.

It is a reference to the fact that the painting's swirly patterns are reminiscent of pubic hair.... sorry to be so obtuse, but that is what it says - and that is what the song is about....
