In response to them looking "thicker" -- I think they don't look quite as thin as today's students, however I haven't seen enough footage to really make a good comparison...much of the more recent footage I personally have seen has been from David Kinsella's "A Beautiful Tragedy" which is notoriously biased...
But I think it has to do with the film quality and angel. If you take them out of the studio and next to others you see how thin they really are!
People on her calling them fat etc . .They're at Perm. That makes them dance-wise supirior to you and your skinny butt ! Theyre NORMAL . Even on the slim side . This whole 'need to be soooo thin' is out of control . .
Has anyone noticed, that over the years of ballet, technique has improved, as well as the shoes -- as does the "need" for ballet dancers to be skinny? When you watch some black and white videos of dancers, such as Margot Fonteyn, they stress on the dancing and the presence. Now it seems ballet companies stress on the body, the thiness, the feet, etc.

Sorry, but the girls who study in Perm are very good. Look at all the european companies!!!! You find them every where!!! And many of them left Vaganowa Academy and than went to Perm, so you can say they are good!
