It's too bad Karen didn't appreciate herself as much as she did others. Her genuine affection and gratitude for people around her was obvious. She never realized just how many people felt the same way about her.
@finster1968 The problem is that most of those people who loved her were her fans. It was very few people in Karen's real life who truly appreciated her for herself (honestly, only about 3 people did). Read the book by Randy Schmidt and you won't ever have to read another book or watch anything else about Karen.
It was the first & the last book I ever read about her, and I swear, you'll go through a range of emotion. It's a truthful read.
@madeyes4u - Thanks for that, I'll check it out. I understand what you're saying about fans vs. real relationships. It's a shame how the desire to be perfect can overwhelm somebody and take a life. Only 3 people appreciating us for who we really are is probably true for many (or less than 3....). So you have to learn to appreciate yourself. But I guess being a celebrity makes it more difficult.
@finster1968 Honestly, I think Karen didn't care about being a celebrity. I don't think it effected her in a direct way. As much as some people hate to point the finger, the real root of her problems was her mother (if you want to call her a mother.)
@madeyes4u - very interesting... Sounds like you stumbled upon a very good read. She obviously had too much class to bash her publicly, even if deserved. Nowadays celebrities are encouraged to trash their families for quick cash.
Great to see Karen and Richard and how much they appreciated the people in their past. It seems the music industry and their horrid work schedule affected them immensely, as it would anyone. Two great souls whose music is truly heartfelt. Thanks to the both of them ... two beautiful souls.
i still look for someone in cyberspace that will confirm my belief that this bro and sis were in johnson city tn at east tennessee state university---no one believes me---way back in the fall of 1970---
This is awesome, to see Karen and Richard so happy and suprised as their former friends come out. They should have shows like this on TV now, much better than any of those reality shows, this is real life and with great people like the carpenters!
I reakon they are so great what a loss...I wish she was alive now I would go to every show she seems so natural and loving ..I hope I see her in heaven..Love from Lisa b....
I can see why the Carpenters were so down to earth, in that the people they were influenced by while growing up were not only tutors but genuinely interested in their well being and their future endveavors in life as well. Very nostalgic and touching footage, thanks for sharing this.
Super ces Carpenters.....pas très moderne du coté habillement ....mais super sympathique ....ont a envie de les inviter ....d'ètre leurs amis .

@orbitring I highly doubt he even watches them. It's probably too painful.

Karen's wit was evident early, though in a quiet way. She was so modest and shy.

Karen thought too much of herself...starving herself to stay thin. Genetically, she wasn't meant to be super thin. What a tragedy.

Oh Richard is the cutest. I loved the cute duo on the Christmas special: Jimmy McNichol and Richard. You could just die!
