  • jeez, im never buying Cherry Garcia ice cream now. Why is One Toke Over The Line in this movie? It isn't a Dead song. Plus why do they have Golden Road like 9 diff times? They seriously couldn't find a diff GD song? They had maybe the largest musical repertoir of any rock band in history

  • With chaotic people around him like this, its easier to understand why he was never able to quit hard drugs.

  • She took Jer for all he was worth....Garcia was the man, and always will be so!

DEBRA = money hungry, low-life POS... she really liked the music, uh? And, she looks so "distraught."

  • slap the bitch

  • "widow's revenge" revenge for what? making millions of dollars for work you didn't do and cheating the man's children out of money they should have?

  • wow deborah makes me sick.

  • Deborah is a bitch Jerry should of stuck with the ones who actually loved him.

  • that woman has no fucking clue man

    stupid jerry

  • 4:14 I have one of those, but I never thought of it as a spawn of this evil gold digging parasite known as Deborah Garcia... No, I don't think it's Garcia, she doesn't deserve to be associated with such a great man.

  • 0:57 sorry

  • 0:59 thighsend

  • Anybody who has spent time with hippies won't be surprised by any of this shit, quite honestly. There is no real brotherhood there. It's about being a good-time-Charlie , out for your kicks and your own pleasure. When it comes down to it.

But the Dead aren't the only ones. All those era bands have sold out to get even MORE money, selling their songs for car commercials, software commercials, and whatever. Even the guys from the Doors were suing eachother over some bullshit.

  • Jeez, Debra manages to come across as crass and vindictive whenever she talks on camera. Not to mention some of the cheesy ass merchandise she's pedaling. Thankfully our memories of Jerry are independent of her.

  • when I was growing up I got used to a phrase 'where there is a will there are relatives, and I still hold to that I think that whatever will Jerry might have made it would have been fought over.

  • im in favor of hippies for what they did and how they did... but theyre all so dirty!!!!

  • I'd like to tie up Koonz with thoes neck-ties... and pelt her with all of her action figure creations!! :-O Uggghh!!

  • i was pissed at the band for trying to keep the guitars, but i live in cleveland and i see rosebud and wolf jr. in the rock hall 4 times year and his guitars are seen. so the band did right. its so cool to see rosebud anytime i want up close inches from my face.

  • i pissed at the band for trying to keep the guitars, but i live in cleveland and i see rosebud and wolf jr. in the rock hall 4 times year and his guitars are seen. so the band did right. its so cool to see rosebud anytime i want up close inches from my face.

  • The sale of the guitars was probably exactly what the band was trying to avoid. I believe Jerry left them to him in the name of sentimentality. Almost makes me wonder how much of her greed was a factor in the decision not to continue the name of the band. I for one will not ever buy any "licensed" Garcia merchandise. I may buy my Furthur shirts at the kiosk....but any GD items will come from the parking lot!

  • Dude, I don't know if I can like The Grateful Dead anymore after watching this.

  • deb koons is a succubus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this lady is one of the most disgusting people iv ever heard about!

  • Wow, Deborah has cashed in on Jerry's death - that's all she wanted, the money. Looks like Doug did the same thing.

These people have no sense of sentimentality, and no idea how to honour a soul.

Jerry's soul is not a cash cow - stop it.

  • and how graceful dignified and philosophical his daughter, so like her dad seemed to be.

what a shame that other woman became involved in her dads life.

  • what a puta huh

  • What a shame about the guitars. I cannot believe how the band and Koons were and still are such money grubbing scum. Jerry must be rolling over in his grave(figuratively).

I really liked Jerry's ties when he was alive. It will be a cold day in hell that I would ever buy one now!

  • Jerry hated the ties! Are you kidding? The dude who wore a tee shirt every freakin day?

  • doug irwin is a dick for selling those guitars like that. if one of my friends died and gave me one of his guitars i wouldn't sell it no matter how much it is worth...even if i couldn't play them.

  • Hey the woman was being pragmatic.

  • We make more money on the ice cream and the ties than the music. That about sums up what shes all about.

  • @phuketdoidoi Well given that The Grateful Dead by their own admission 'never made money on their studio recordings' and the money was made by going out on the road, the live recordings released later were a secondary way of making some money. How do you expect Deborah to reverse the loss making on studio recordings? I wish Jerry lived longer, and made his money, for the alimony, and led a quieter life, disentangling himself from the loop of touring/drugs/stressed relationships. He wanted that.

  • NEVER buying that ice cream again!!

  • I love Jerry -- but am bummed out by this!

  • Save yourself the trouble, the whole thing is summarized beginning at 3:24

  • seems cheap for those guitars

  • she was supporting the person that bought it? you wanted that money for urself, bitch~!!!! god i hate this woman

  • I really want a Tie or two, but it seems all merch money just goes directly to Deborah? It seems she really whores out anything she can and that quote about how the ice cream and ties makes more income than the music...kinda takes alot of spirit away from the great things Jerry did in his lifetime...does anyone know if any of his money was given out to charities or anything? like rehabilitation based ones or anything like that.

  • what are the songs at 3:30 and 5:30?

  • i love the yoda impression at 2:16

  • Jerry would be embarrassed by those who profitted in such greedy little ways from his death. I appologize Jerry. You were a great and generous spirit.

  • Great piece of journalism. And yes, it's true: Deborah Koons Garcia does come off as a money-grubbing widow.

  • "we do things that are cool"

  • god is sad to See and hear the way his second wife turned it all in to money. sad really sad

  • Just goes to show that money will rot your brain and dilute your ethics faster than any drug......the most important lessons and memories are the ones you carry in your heart.

  • Guess not . . .

  • Does anyone else think that its fucked up that his closest friends and family used his death to turn a profit? what a way to pay respects to a great man who didn't give a shit about money.

  • @morgbi21

    yeah, it's very sad.

  • @morgbi21 so sad man.

  • she figured he was a rockstar jerry was and still is a fucking rock legend deborah can go fuck herself selling jerrys things

  • Aww it really makes me sad to hear that the band did this, I mean of course they are his guitars, they were even made to his specs, I would not feel like I would have to question the legality of this at all. So sad. At least Jerry is happy now up in heaven away from all this garbage.

  • @snoopval In his autobiography, Phil Lesh states unequivocably that he went against other band members when he supported Garcia's wishes that the guitars go to Irwin.

  • @Lisica2008 so Phill supported him then.

  • @snoopval Yes--assuming Lesh is telling the truth, which I suspect he is.

  • @snoopval Yes--assuming Lesh is telling the truth, which I suspect he is.

  • @Lisica2008 aw, I hope so, perhaps it's naive of me but I kind of like to think that hippies are/were unspoiled by money and all the politics that occur in daily life but I guess that is not completly true.

  • Am I funding her douchebaggery when I buy that ice cream? Shiiiiit.

  • @Tibererer lol that was an awesome comment I thought the exact same thing. I love that ice cream I'm kind of hungry for it now :)

  • Wolf is in my hometown of Utica NY (upstate) with a private owner according to wikipedia. (~);}

  • When Deborah says, 'The Ties and the Ice Cream make more money than the music.' She should say that with a look of shame on her face.

Her main role should be to introduce new people to his wonderful music, not make money of his existing fans...

  • i am sad to say i posses one of those jerry statues thanks to my parents, its upsetting their money went to that evil evil bitch R.I.P Jerry

  • my heart is breaking watching this slut selling out Jerry like that....dont buy any of that stuff Deadheads!!!!

  • the ending half of this documentary is devastating

  • I always wanted a Jerry tie... I'd rather hang myself with one then let that cunt have $.01.... sum1 should burn her house down

  • One day I WILL own the tiger guitar...and I will be buried with it. In an undisclosed location.

  • money makes people fucking nuts. it will distroy everything around it. i never new adout the estate battle but it dose not suprise me. im sad for his 1st wife see was in his life for so long and this gold digger desides that a agreement that they made was now no good and spreding his ashes in india what the fuck. and not letting the 1st wife go to spred the rest of his ashs what a shame

  • man! deborah really sold jerry's image after he died.

  • JERRY DOLL!?

i would make a friggin' voodoo doll of Deborah.

    fucking whore.

  • One of the best doc films ever made. ... about jerry, the band, and their followers, who re-created woodstock 1, all over again, at every concert, wherever they went. . Wish I had gone to one.

Love annabelle. ... and I think she's got the secret, underground, money-vault that no one's talking about. (?) (ha, ha, I hope so)

I'd like to ask doug irwin about those double-outputs at 1:05, or 5:03.

Takes me back to the good old days.

    Great ! ... "Flar Par" !

  • So Jerry has been gone for almost 16 years and everyone of the people in this film ... in his circle of family and friends are all human beings. they all have had this time to look back at what they did and what was right and what was wrong. So have all of us Deadheads had time to reflect. I am going to ask everyone who reaches this point in the youtube experience to just forgive and forget. No one is worth hating, none of us are angels. Debra is just another human so is Doug, let it go.

  • @lumanation4u2 ...amen. understanding and forgiveness, its as easy as that.. we all make mistakes. be straight and don't bring your perceptions of anyone or anything down to the gutters, keep all clean. were apart of life on earth to learn...and grow back to oneness and away from some individual separation. i hope The Widow with Mountain Girl and Doug with The Dead get a chance to communicate straight during their lives, because its their lives, thats it. hopefully become companions. i mean love

  • @lumanation4u2 I respect your intentions, but Deborah's behavior was abominable and she still profits off it in the public domain, so people are justified in voicing their disagreement with her.

  • The idea that some yuppie asshole plays Tiger with his buddies makes me want to puke. If I ever saw that in person I'd kick his fucking teeth in.

  • thank you for posting this I for one will never ever buy any jerry merch after seeing this also the band should be ashamed of themselves for acting the way they did after his death

  • Fuck Deb, She is a money grubber.

  • I live in indianapolis...Im finding that guitar.

  • @JimmyPageisGOD he's talking about Jim Irsay. The colt's own Jerry's guitar!!

  • doug such a smart kookie i bet he just made replicas and has the 2 bad boys sitting over his fireplace right now with a phat grin on his face :)

  • So let me see if I've got this right, Dead Heads, you folks see nothing wrong with the rest of this hippie band picking over the guy's guitars after his death, like scavengers chewing a bone? That's groovy, right?

But when his widow makes some cash off of licenses (which he gave his permission for while still alive), that's the evilest thing you can imagine.

You guys are a bunch of star fucking love children, with one standard for your heroes and another for everyone else.

  • "the ties and the ice cream make more money than the music".... jerald would laugh at that one...

  • succubus

  • Let's flip this and make it a positive. I used to sell my own unofficial Grateful Dead/Jerry t-shirts, but quit because I felt bad for making a couple bucks off of somebody else's name.

After watching this, though, I realize at least my couple shirts have integrity, heart. I wasn't thinking about money the whole time.

So whether I was in the right or in the wrong I still dunno, but at least I can say I handled things better than Koons.

  • "figured he was a rockstar"???? he WAS a rockstar. bitch go hunt for some more money

  • It's funny how the fans know Jerry better than his widow does...

  • I didn't believe in the devil before this video... but now I know the bitch in red is she!

  • Dumb bitch. I read an interview where Jerry said he was not comfortable with the "rock star" idol thing. This is making me sick and I think Ill go to bed.

  • was it DK or the band saying that the guitars didn't belong to Jerry? According to this documentary, it seems that both Deborah and the GD became somewhat mercenary after Jerry's death.

  • I would have never sold the guitars doug irwin got. That does not make sense to me.

  • what's the song at 4:18?

  • Cream Puff War

  • "This is one thing I did... because I figured that Jerry was a Rock star." Just In the way she says that, you can tell she didn't get why he was so special. It's amazing that you can be married to someone and not truly understand the beauty of that person's individuality.

  • God this ho just talks about money this whole documentary

  • koons = jew bitch

  • I have a Jerry Garcia tie. I like it.

  • RIP Jerry Garcia, RIP John Lennon, and rest in peace all of the other great music makers that have ever blessed the face of the earth........Deborah Koons i hope the higher power, or whoever made us all will kill you slowly :)

    Peace Pot 420

  • what a money hungry bitch. she doesn't even care about jerry

  • i have that little jerry figure with the guitar.

  • "Art and commerce"...Jerry didn't really give much of a a shit about commerce.

  • I guess I kinda feel like it doesn't do him justice for all of this shit to happen. It just belittles everything that Jerry Garcia stood for. I'm not a dead head and I'm kinda young compared to most Grateful Dead fans, but after watching the documentary and listening to the music it doesn't seem fitting for things to transpire the way they did.

  • Deborah is close minded and selfish. She only cares about the income not Jerry.

  • I hope Deborah reads this....you are sooo fake. Please give at least a good amount to the people who deserve it. What a horrible lady, and by the way, Jerry probably just married you when he was sick and high. So..ha!

  • and finally part 4. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

  • It would have been nice for the guitars to be given to an up and coming kid who was inspired by Jerry or something else cool like that instead where they are now, what happened to the ones that were given back to the boys?

  • No----Jerry was not a corporate whore!

  • what a bunch of children fighting over toys

  • 3:31 Who is we?

  • @smilinsailorman too funny i just found myself asking the same question

  • money hungry ppl garcia's just laughin at all this greed i wouldv donated one of the guitars to either family or museum fuck sellin either of the guitars thats crazy

  • WHAT A FUCKING BITCH! BOYCOTT CHERRY GARCIA! BOYCOTT ANYTHING THAT WOMAN MAKES A PENNY FROM!

  • rosebud :)

  • What about the dipshits in the Dead that first off put his ashes in India and then sued Doug Irwin for Jerry's guitars. I'll never go see bobby and friends either. At least Cherry Garcia leaves a good taste in your mouth!

  • this is soo sad to watch, Jerry puppets and stuff..he would hated it...

  • what a bitch!!!!!

  • See now? What a shithead!Would you sell those guitars to some jack asshole?!Doug you douchebag!!

  • @gary7999 Thats jock asshole to you.

  • Irwin was in a hit and run accident (the victim) and lost everything. He sold Jerrys guitars to start up a new company, which he did, and is now making guitars for people like Jerry. I dont think Jerry would mind that.

  • There's a lesson to be learned here people. Don't do hard drugs, or you might end up married to someone like Deborah Koons...

  • seriously seems like everyone is in it for the money. except for his daughter and sorta doug. jerry would certainly be disappointed..

  • what a total cunt....good for her.

  • Seems Deborah loves anything that is" lucrative". Some of her marketing products are a joke, and Jerry would not be amused.

  • seeing Jerry in doll form is a sacrilege, thats not what he stood for.

  • Seeing Jerry in doll form is such a sacrilege, thats not what he stood for.

  • she's like a money-hungry stock broker. "hmm what else can i mass market and pass off as "jerry" merchandise to try and make a little more money off him?" who would buy that crap? she said herself that her little business is doing better than the music selling... i feel bad for his daughter.

  • The one overriding factor in all this mess is that to me the Greateful Dead were a crap band who never (to me) made one good track.

  • @noyna9 Then why did you even bother to watch this band.

And go listen to Eyes of The World from the Without a Net album. How can you not love that?

  • this truly makes me sick.

  • Fuck deborah!

  • My question is why are they playing Brewer & Shipley's "One Toke Over The Line"? It's not by the Grateful Dead.

  • @brentondig i was wondering that too

  • yeah i agree he should have kept the guitars or atleast one of them, jerry wanted him to have the guitars he made for him, forget the money, well atleast he shouldnt have sold them right away i say..oh well i guess theyll get what they deserve eventually if thats what u wanna believe...furthermore things should have been left in better hands with the people that cared about him , not the ones that market off him, shit atleast the band should get more they experienced the most with him!

  • FUCK MONEY.....

  • deborah is such a bitch, jerry is gonna beat the shit out of her when she dies...

  • this debra lady is a real gold digger...doug irwin should've kept those guitars...his daughter seems like the most level headed person out of this whole thing

  • this is fucking necrophelia-

I can't believe how horrible that she-devil bitch is

  • This widow is a bitch.

  • fuck off debra. you just keep profiting off of his image. you can't even imagine the thoughts he had.

karma, or jerry, is gonna kick your ass when you get to the other side

  • alright that doug irwin guy was such an asshole and sell out for auctioning off jerrys guitars. that is just wrong

  • Yo, Jerry was dupped. Plain and simple. If he all these dirty fkrs would run for his loot he never would have associated with any of them.

    They will get their Karma.

  • It makes me sad when people get ripped off and used RIP Brother

  • I will never eat cherry garcia again and am sick to know that a gift we recieved of the Jerry rock star rift thing in her hand was made by his widow!!!!! UGH!!!!! Mountain Girl rocks and so does his daughter. If they weren't such wonderful people they should punch d.koons in the face!!!!!!! She is a gold digger!!!!!!! His wishes should be honored and screw you dk!!!!!!

  • I really don't find Deborah very sincere at all. It makes me a little sad. Jerry was too good for her.

  • I'm sure Jerry enjoyed the money, but what you have to remember is that many people relied on the Grateful Dead financially. Not only was the band supporting themselves but many others relied on them for cash flow; either working directly for them or not. People's livelihood was at stake if they quit touring. John Kahn referred to it as the Grateful Dead tit. Many suckled from the Grateful Dead tit and I think that was the biggest reason they kept touring after the thrill was gone.

  • Oh and if Jerry handed Irwin cash for the guitars, the guitars should have gone to Jerry's wife or kids. I don't really understand the "Deborah cashed in out of nowhere" rant. I don't like her but they were married at the time of his death, therefore she was the next of kin. In a normal court of law, everything would go to wife and kids.

  • What's particularly offensive about Deborah's behavior is that she reportedly tried to break the divorce settlement between Jerry and MG after Jerry died--even though Jerry apparently entered into the agreement willingly and in fact abided by its terms while he was alive. But Deborah decided that she knew better and tried to break it. Deborah was in line to inherit a third of Jerry's estate, so she had plenty of incentive to fight off claims.

  • Listening to those degenerates berate Irwin for selling Jerry's guitars was laughable. At least he earned it for god's sake. Deborah just cashed in out of nowhere and got millions for NOTHING.

  • Jerry Garcia might have been a good person, I'm sure he was a very nice man, but the last 10 years of his life, he was only playing with the Grateful Dead for the money. The Dead were one of the top grossing bands for about a decade from the early and mid 80's until he died. His daughter is stating the truth, he wanted to stop, but the money was too good. She even says he hated doing it. The Dead were a marketing machine, so I don't think that Garcia would mind the store.

  • I think he really enjoyed playing with jerry garcia band and david grisman, he seemed more joyful than he did with the dead during that time.

  • I wonder how Jerry would have felt about that kitschy statue that Deborah is so proud of . And somehow, her description of him as a "rock star" doesn't quite capture his legacy.

  • She is certainly a classless, unethincal whore. I'm sure Jerry, who was worth millions, was really thanking god for that 60k from ice cream. What in god's name is this woman even talking about?

  • this documentary is getting me sicker by the minute.

  • Widow is a money grubbin whore!!!!!!!

    More income my ass >:/

  • "When you guys get to the other side, Jerry's gonna beat the snot out of you."

    Doug's got that one right.

  • Jerry would never want a merchandising store all about him. This literally makes me weep because the way his life/ death was handled. So sad.

  • Oh grow up you bedwetting moron. Jerry wasn't anti profit. He made money and there is demand for his stuff.

  • A.) How'd you know I wet the bed?

B.) Never said he was anti profit I said He wouldn't want a store all about him. He wasn't that kind of guy. He was very humble.

  • what a douche!

  • Wow. Jerry wouldn't want an entire store dedicated to him? He didn't like that kind of attention. His widow sucks at representing him.

  • jerry was such a good guy. he treated everybody with equal respect. people should not fight over his belongings, but remember all the times they had with im. you can recreate jerry through material possesions, but you sure can with your memories and love for him. respect the dead and what they have done for you. they could end up saving you in the long run. how dare the widow not let mountain girl spread his ashes too. she had a child with him and deserves it more than anyone does. love you jer

  • money sure does bring out the devil in folks don't it...

  • Speaking as someone who has been an executor of an estate...it ain't easy. I get the soap opera aspect of the interest in this stuff...but it doesn't matter in the grand scheme. Jerry rocks!

  • Jerry must have been very good-natured to put up with everyone hanging on him, literally and figuratively. Look how he politelyy he brushed off the groupie at 1:59.

  • God she's a money grubbing bitch

  • His daughter is such a saint. But I hate how his death was treated as who could get the most money out of it. God, Jerry wouldn't have liked to see it end like this.

  • vomit...

  • Here's an idea.......Every Deadhead could pitch in $10. We could raise enough money to buy that bitch out, once and for all.

I would LOVE to give that bitch enough money in exchange for her promise to fuck off and NEVER, EVER, mention Jerry's name again!!!

Give the estate back to Mountain Girl and Annabelle!!!

  • I know what you mean, but greedy people like Deborah are usually never satisfied and keep asking for more and more. One thing's certain: I'll never buy the Cherry Garcia ice cream and other stuff merchandised as Garcia products, knowing that Deborah gets the proceeds.

  • @Lisica2008 - she doesn't get proceeds from Cherry Garcia...she gets a flat licensing fee, whether you buy the product or not.

  • @pbl1 I wonder how long Deborah will be paid the licensing fee if they discontinue the flavor due to lack of sales.

  • I know it's been a long time and we should let it go...but I still wish Jerry would've just stood up for himself and said "I don't want to tour so much" or "I don't owe you guys...(supporting everyone)." He probably wouldn't have ended up so burnt.
