  • I have a BIG problem with this song.

    It's ENTIRELY too short!

  • Awesome! I first heard of her when my friend Richard told me about her. He gave me his only record of her. In Switzerland there is this singer by the name Bo Katzman who does this horrible gospel shows during christmas. I hope people realize what sister Rosetta Tharpe really is: pure Gospel!

  • @bugietube She was feelin' it!

  • @gcolter722 Well, I hate to be'The Jerk' here but I believe the 'Twinkie' was exported to Britain roughly about this time. This is one of the largest occurences of white people finding their 'special purpose' ever recorded on video.

  • How'd dey get all dem white folks clappin' on 2 an 4?

  • Im tapping my feet and loving this soulful blessed woman!

  • rocknroll moma....o yea

But video will have to do. Thanks for posting!

  • Thank you, I love having this film on my AmericanA Channel....Oh my Lord, was this lady a lead..... he he !

  • how did I miss this? Lord I love Sister Rosetta Tharpe!

  • I love Sister Rosetta and her guitar licks. Shou Sister Shout!

  • So great ! I've never seen or heard her before it is so powerful !

  • that SG sound like a banjo......

    AWESOME

  • @Whydoyoureadme

It's not an SG. In the early 60's Gibson changed the design of the Les Paul but Les didn't like it and didn't want his name on it so they went back to the original design and revived this shape a short time later as the SG without so many bells and whistles so it wouldn't compete with the Les Paul. This is about a 1961 or 62 Les Paul Deluxe.

  • Hollywood sure can make a stage look good. Nice set!

  • WOW these are the people that truly paved the way... from gospel to beyonce shaking her ass

  • wonderfull :D

  • Didn't it Rain..of course it did, it was Manchester. Sister's a Star

  • She's bopping around with an electric guitar on a wet platform outside? How were they miking her vocals?

  • Filmed at Wilbraham Road station south ManchesterUK(about 20mins from where I'm sitting)line closed to passengers in 1958.Line finally closed completely in 1988,I drove one of the last trains over the line!

  • @eeclass20 I was born in the year that this was made (1964), in Stockport, about 4 miles or so from there :)

  • Thank you, thank you very much. Ah'm normal, now. How could I live without this beat, this heat, this way to move my feet?

  • oh she's great. !..i love her guitar style *** Thank You

  • bad ass SG!!!!!

  • @jayceenine

I hate to keep having to do this, but it's not an SG! It's a Les Paul Deluxe. Gibson changed the shape for a few years but went back to the original shape when Les Paul complained about it but they kept this shape around removing some of the features and moving it down market as a cheaper model, the SG.

  • that's ace frehley before kiss. on the whole, i think his makeup in kiss was more successful.

  • Pretty generous calling her a guitar virtuoso.. But she's great.. off course

  • ....and the people said AMEN

  • Just imagine this, a buggy and a horse and a railway platform. Great film clip----

  • great clip

  • Can't help mounting my soapbox again! The decline is untrue...maybe video killed much more than than the radio star...not too mention hiphop (which I love).

Brilliant artist! Just hope the budding talents of today would hark back and get inspiration from their predecessors and rich cultural history...like Michael Jackson (RIP) did!

  • Way cool

  • haha that's great, the old gospel singer jamming on a SG

  • @SiMoFkr

It's not an SG. It's a Les Paul Deluxe. They re-issued the shape later as the SG when they went back to the original Les Paul shape.

  • smokin

  • Well that's a creative entrance- they just made a stage huh?! No prop expenses I suppose - cool

  • It originates from a UK TV show "The Blues and Gospel Train" from 1964.

  • Was this a TV show?

  • Damn shes fine in a surrey with a fringe on top!!

  • Awesome.

  • Nice
