Hey Lynn... thank you for your humble, and gracious service tonight... after you listen to this song, listen to "Sister Rosetta Goes Before Us" ( Robert Plant/Allison Krause)
Awesome! I first heard of her when my friend Richard told me about her. He gave me his only record of her. In Switzerland there is this singer by the name Bo Katzman who does this horrible gospel shows during christmas. I hope people realize what sister Rosetta Tharpe really is: pure Gospel!
I saw this on the BBC last week, she is brill, all her songs are from the heart, you can tell she experienced alot in her life, its a shame the tunes now a days dont make you feel like this
What an extraordinary performance. Such a voice, such licks, such expression, like she's narating a story . . .she blows apart every modern stereotype in one go.
@gcolter722 Well, I hate to be'The Jerk' here but I believe the 'Twinkie' was exported to Britain roughly about this time. This is one of the largest occurences of white people finding their 'special purpose' ever recorded on video.
See it and weep! So ...a woman it was who invented 'rock n roll' and of course it now makes sense....straight from gospel with an acustic guitar and a lesbian attitude...doing it like a dude! Beat that you 'rock n roll' pretenders..
It's not an SG. In the early 60's Gibson changed the design of the Les Paul but Les didn't like it and didn't want his name on it so they went back to the original design and revived this shape a short time later as the SG without so many bells and whistles so it wouldn't compete with the Les Paul. This is about a 1961 or 62 Les Paul Deluxe.
Filmed at Wilbraham Road station south ManchesterUK(about 20mins from where I'm sitting)line closed to passengers in 1958.Line finally closed completely in 1988,I drove one of the last trains over the line!
I hate to keep having to do this, but it's not an SG! It's a Les Paul Deluxe. Gibson changed the shape for a few years but went back to the original shape when Les Paul complained about it but they kept this shape around removing some of the features and moving it down market as a cheaper model, the SG.
Can't help mounting my soapbox again! The decline is untrue...maybe video killed much more than than the radio star...not too mention hiphop (which I love).
Brilliant artist! Just hope the budding talents of today would hark back and get inspiration from their predecessors and rich cultural history...like Michael Jackson (RIP) did!
