@ryngpop on other people I prefer to use gel (because that is faster and the result is pretty similar) and on myself and my best friend I love to use acrylic

For gels you need a UV light in order for the gel to "harden". If you do not have a UV light it will never "harden" or dry. You can find some decent lamps on Ebay but do your research. Depending on the product you use (IBD/CND/Nouveau/etc) will depend on the watts needed for the bulb. If you do not want to do gels you can always try acrylics or nail wraps which do not require a lamp.

@lexiine1 gel might be better for you, and acrylic might be better for me. it all depends.

gel is great for shorter nails and nailbiters, acrylic is great for long nails.

each have their pros and cons :)

gel is a "gel" substance that needs to be "cured" in a uv light in order to make it hard,

acrylic air dries. but I've got a blogpost about that if you are interested
