  • Is the 3DO Region Free?Meaning would Jap games work on an american one or would I need to get the jap ver of it?(Yes simply to play this game here...I am a fan....)

  • @yunier20 Hey, the 3DO is region free, it would definitely work on a US system but I think this game was only ever released in Japan. I've seen copies on ebay for about $40

  • @alexgameroom Awsome Thanks!!!I`ll look into it!

  • @alexgameroom That's why you just burn the game files to a CD-R. Yeah, I know, but really, it's much easier and less costly. Some 3DO games are so rare that you don't even see them at all on eBay, if you do probably for about 500 bucks. (I'm thinking of Kamachi's Museum, by the way)

  • Doesnt look bad,but i have a soft spot for sailer moon ever since i played the sailor moon rpg on the snes.

  • They made quite a few Sailor Moon games (in Japan) during its heyday. A few fighting games, several beat 'em ups, a few puzzle games, and at least one RPG. The RPG (on the Super Famicom) and the arcade beat 'em up were basically the only worthwhile ones from what I've seen. Most were just cheap cash-ins.

  • Lol Japans full of a bunch of pervs. Who doesn't want to look at babes in short skirts though?

And yeah they aired this in the States but I hear the dub was really bad and they took out a lot of "objectionable material" that's not suitable for children. Japan's a crazy perverse country :D

  • Babes in short skirts? Yeeeaahhh ;) School girls? Thats jailbait dude!

  • @alexgameroom

Age of consent in Japan is 13, depending on region. So girls in short skirts at this age isn't seen as perverted as it would in the US.

And Naoko Takeuchi, the creator of Sailor Moon, said when creating the characters, she didn't realize how short those skirts really were and how much of a problem wearing one that short in real life was until she saw one (I assume a cosplayer) in real life.

  • @JerryTerrifying Yes, I also secretly like how deprived Japan is.

  • @JerryTerrifying if they were like anything like the stupid changes to the english dub, then the reality was that nothing in it was perverted at all.... it was just typical american overreaction in an attempt to protect children from "foreign influences". in fact, the original Japanese Sailor Moon is very mild compared to animes like Dears, which is a very cute yet horribly perverted anime. the only racy thing in Sailor Moon was when they implied that Neptune and Uranus were lesbains.

  • @AuroraMoon

    >implying Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus aren't lesbian

  • @Kazisho yeah, they had a lot of les yay going on in that anime when Neptune and Uranus appeared, and is so heavy on the lesbian innuendos that we're meant to think of them as lesbains. However, they've never used the "L" word, and always refers to each other as friends that are closer than family. So if they never said that they were together, and so on forth then the company can have plausible denial if they should get in trouble for it.

  • @AuroraMoon Exactly. After all, Sailor Moon is "for kids". Fucking idiot censorship.

  • @AuroraMoon

Zoicite was a male in the original series, and gay. So the lesbian relationship wasn't the only "racy" thing in the show.

Some of the changes involved violence. In the original show, some people actually died. Whereas in the American dub, they were severely injured. While it's not good that it was censored, it was not all based on "protecting children from foreign influences". Also, various panty shots, and innuendo. Like the argument they had about who's breasts were larger.

  • @Draknfyre I know all of that, I have the whole original series on dvd. But you have to keep in mind that this series was meant for teenage girls, not 5-year-olds. In today's teenage TV shows you see much worse than what you saw in sailor moon. hell, as a teenage girl I even compared breast sizes with my best friends sometimes. So the only reason why they made such changes was because they wanted to market to 5-year-olds. and Sailor Moon wasn't meant to be marketed towards kids that age.

  • @AuroraMoon

I know who it is meant for.

US standards on television wouldn't allow realistic violence even for teenage girls. Remember, this show is 15 years old. Yes, there is crap on today that's even worse, but at the time even a show aimed at teenage girls wouldn't let realistic violence and what else was in the show past.

It sucks that it got censored, but you have to remember the timeframe it was released here. They even had to stick in the "Sailor Says" part for the educational reqment

  • This game looks alright. On first impressions, it looks like Street Fighter 2 with Sailor Moon characters. It does look decent, though. The title is actually "Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon S", as it is based on Sailor Moon S, which is the third series of the anime. =)

  • It plays a bit like SF2, only better graphics and not as fluid. Have you ever seen the series?

  • I've seen about 10 episodes of the first series. It's pretty slow paced for the first 5 or so episodes, but it starts to pick up after that. Its an alright show. I do plan on watching more. The series is a magical girl anime, where the main characters, who are normally just ordinary schoolgirls, transform into their alter-egos, heroines named after the planets of the solar system, to fight evil.

If you're going to watch it, watch the Japanese version. The English dub is God-awful, seriously. =)

  • Or the French version. Or the Spanish version. Any one apart from the horrible English version.

  • i love sailor moon ...:D

    nice review...cool

  • Thanks mate..!

  • Sailor Moon aired in the States in the 90's. It was one of the first Anime series to come here that was really meant for the focus audience to be Teen Girls.

It is the reason we get so many teen girl anime and Manga series now.

As for the short skirted school-girls...well you are talking about a country that you could at one time get used girls panties out of vending machines to sniff on your way to work or something.

  • Thanks for the info! I had no idea this aired in the states, it certainly didn't make it to the UK to my knowledge. It seems strange, if the target audience is teenage girls, why make a fighting game?

Yeah, I heard about those 'vending machines' some time ago. Makes me wonder what the Japanese think of western 'adult entertainment'.
