  • Another example of "who stole the soul", noticed how Johnny said groovy, years before the 1960s use of it by maintream people and "hippies", just like so called rock n roll itself, a new name for much older music. Most culture, music, slang, fashions, begins in the soulful part of .society before being adopted by the mainstrea which then claims it as their own

  • Yes! Turning Lionel Hampton loose at 12:45!

  • I loved Johnny Otis' show on KPFK radio. He was a great musician and teacher. Interested in gardening in his later years.

  • Johhny Otis was one of my very first musical heroes. I watched this show religiously. When it went off the air, it broke my heart. As gifted as he was as a musician, his greatest gift was making other people shine. He was a lot of my inspiration to become a musician myself. Rest in peace Johnny, and thanks for all the great music. Do that crazy hand jive!

  • And let's offer thanks to the Lillys of Metropolitan Ford, corner of Pico & Figueroa, for sponsoring this show! The location is now the LA Convention center, with a Hooters opposite.

  • Absolutely a treasure!

  • RIP.....All these kids should see this history..

  • RIP Brother Johnny!
