Tank trucks don't explode, only in category F movies... They have safety features you don't even heard of, including the fuel pumps (they too are in fact connected to underground tanks, probably bigger than the one on the truck)...

At :16, you can see him running from the front of the truck to grab the fire extinguisher on the left side of the fuel pump. He then runs back to put out the fire. At :29, he's spraying the flame retardant but, seeing that it's not working, he puts the cylinder down by the side of the pump and grabs the wheel. What an AMAZING GUY!!! (I just hope he didn't cause the fire in the first place!)

@AnteriorEE If I smoked, I would be more afraid of wearing nylon around gasoline than smoking. It's surprisingly difficult to light gasoline with a cigarette, or anything that just smolders without sparks or flames. If you toss a cigarette into a pool of gasoline it will just extinguish.

To ignite gas with a cigarette you'd need just the right combination of gas fumes and air and it probably helps if the cigarette has been recently toked.
