When I was a little shit I used to listen to Exploited, Venom and such. Then during a macabre hangover I put this LP on the turntable, in the year of -87 and I was totally lost. And I still am.
Dave Grohl was not only the drummer for Nirvana, he plays drums for Them Crooked Vultures, has played with Queens of the Stone Age, played pretty much everything on Probot and is a huge supporter/fan of Voivod.
@ptalch I completely agree with that. I feel like all thrash bands that talked about war or nuclear death were ahead of their time cause a lot of the stuff they talk about in their songs could become a reality. But this album by Voivod in particular is one of my favorite album that represent true thrash the other being Leave Scars by Dark Angel. Anyway this whole album makes me think of some mixture of Mad Max, Wizards, and Clockwork Orange (actually their first 3 seem to all have that theme)
@metalahhhhhhhhhhhh Oh yeah. Dark Fucking Angel : Leave Fucking Scars !!! Great (Life-)Band, great Album. Love it !! Other pearls: Destruction : Release from agony , Kreator:Terrible certainty
i heard Voivod for the first time in 1984.. Damn this was amazing.. Still a big fan of them.. there actually is no band comparable anywhere in the world.. Musically they went from extreme metal to soft pop to extreme metal to progressive psychedelic rock, whatever and never really lost their signature... Awesome. .Have a look atthe interview with Dave Grohl about Voivod... He's a great fan of them.
This album is friggin' great; this is my favorite album from this Canadian Space thrash band. One of a kind musical group. This album originally came out in 1986, on Combat(relativity rec.). That was one great metal label:1980-1990. Earache rec. bought most of the label while it was disintegrating in its last days. This music doesn't even exist anymore! The metal of today is a friggin' disgrace; more like fag rock.
how can you not of heard voivod? lol??? poineers they were way ahead of their time. this album is awesome check out all their stuff if you can!! jason newsted played on some later albums which aren't so good.

1986? Either they have a time machine or they were prophets in unsuspected times. Excellent thrash metal.

RRRöööaaarrr is No.1 in my alltime faves.
Metal has become faster, more technical and deeper.
But no other album/band ever reached the brutality of this one.
The cover represents the music in 100%.
Listening to songs like thrashing rage or Korgüll still makes me feel a cold shiver ruinning down my back.
RRRöööaaarrr - the wildest piece of metal ever!!!
