The original song was produced by a very talented person named Keith Forsey. What's interesting is that Keith is a drummer and also the one who programmed the drum machine in the original song. He left a lot of space in the drum track so that when the chorus kicks in (and the drums go from sparse to keeping a strong beat), it is very powerful because of the change. I like the sounds you used but it's a bit like being hit over the head. Why not try it again and use some dynamics, let it breathe.
