This series is a great help... :) thanks... I have a question about accidentals... If an accidental is indicated, take for example just at the lower staff, would that be applied to the upper staff too?
@keyboardglued321 No, he didn't talk about the time signature or the types of notes (half, quarter, etc)... :/ the one little beef I have with his videos.
great lessons. a hard song taught to what seems like a starting beginner, but that's just what i am so this is the best tutorial. thank you, great teaching! :)
It is incredibly frustrating how slow these lessons go. This is, I think, the 8th video in the series and it's measure 3. You're a great teacher, but anyone who knows what Clair de Lune is, and wants to learn it doesn't need a two-minute lesson on how to tell what a measure is in every video.
You are an excellent teacher. Thank you so much for posting these videos! I am determined to learn this entire song one way or the other! The way you break it down measure by measure has made it very easy for me, a novice, to learn. Thanks again.
Want to come and see a translation of the poem that inspired Debussy to compose this beautiful piece of music? Please come and visit 'Clair de Lune' on my channel.
@FlashMobAJam Thanks for the kind comment and the good suggestion. Did you watch the first few videos of the series? There's also a link with one of the first videos that jumps to a different lesson that goes over how to name the keys and read notes on the music. I hope that helps - if not, let me know and I'll try to make sure future lessons are easier to follow.
@hughsung You should be awarded a key-to-the-city; a governor's Hugh Day; a congressional medal; an ... Thanks. I'm gonna memorize this piece with your help (i'm a lead guitarist) on piano.
You've got the right equipment, and you're so patient! Also love the calm voice; it relaxes me when I can't figure out how it's done. I just slide back to the part where I got it right. You're an amazing help to a lot of people, what a great achievement!
@Mriietube Aw, thank you so much! I've heard other people tell me that my voice puts them to sleep...so don't watch these videos while driving on the road ;)
@hughsung actually, I think thats one of the great parts of your tutorials, because your voice is really calm, and nice to listen to, as opposed to some other people's voices haha..I really love your tutorials; they are so helpful, and so clear. thanks for all you do:D
the real great advantage of these videos is one: you can learn any time, not just on certain days two: you can go as slow as you want and can take breaks. thanks
Great observations! You've hit the nail on the head. The one component that's missing is the live interaction with a teacher, who can play a major role in motivating you, as well as helping you learn much faster and bypassing mistakes. I know i'm mentioning this a lot, but I'm really excited about how my new Ashbury Music Hall online piano studio can help fill in that missing component so effectively!
Thank you! You know, I've just been signed on as an online teacher at Ashbury Music Hall. You can actually take private lessons with me over the internet if you're interested. Please visit my pianofromscratch website for details. Hope to see you in my online piano studio class!
hi loving the lessons your doing a great job.just wondering would it be possible to maybe have a list on each lesson that would tell people what the notes are and the order they are played in e.g F and A flat. Just so they would be easier to read and learn. Thanks
Thanks, I'm glad you're enjoying these lessons! I'm not completely sure I understand your question - are you suggesting that I post a written list of the notes covered in each lesson? I think there's another YouTube piano teacher that uses that technique, and you might find that helpful. I'm hoping to help people learn to read actual music notes a little at a time, and I try to help you find each note in every lesson. Hope this helps!
Take a look at lesson #5.1 - I go into detail explaining the difference between duplets and triplets and an easy way to play them. Duplets are a rhythmic figure, fitting two notes in the space of three. Let me know if lesson #5.1 helps.
i'll take a look, i'm trying to learn the song from my sheet music, but i'm not really good at reading it, so sometimes i watch your tutorials to learn and sometimes to check if i did it right :)
Very nice video! Good for people who can't play/read notes. Just one question, why didn't you talk about the two in three (duplets) in measure three? Thanks!
Thanks! Good question about the duplets - as these lessons are meant to be short and focused, I didn't want to introduce too many elements at once. We go into detail about duplet rhythms in later lessons with a fun mnemonic, so be sure to check them out. Thanks for watching!

One question, did you go through the 9/8 timing in a video? Did I miss it?

@keyboardglued321 You might try doing what I'm gonna attempt to do -- learn the notes first, then listen for their timing. :)

Love your lessons... but I wish you just taught the "key' first,
and THEN the notes with keys
and layer it on like that.
because often times, I can't see the keys
and the talk confuses my little brain.
thx
