Not a bad cover. He's got a good voice for it. I think I've been on a "Year 2525" kick because even the near future seems uncertain, and the recent past hasn't helped matters much...
@hoppybhoy71 OH you don't believe me? I bet you can't even tell me where he's originally from (my home town)... and don't say Manchester! And to say he has a soft spot for Celtic is stretching a point. His team and only team is man United! ok.
@davidsan01 this is a cover of zager and evans version,of course he supports man utd,he was born in warrington,he definetely does have a soft spot for celtic, spoke to him after his gig in my home town of greenock and he mentioned that he had been to celtic park at the time of one of his gigs in glasgow,he told me he couldnt stand some of the right wing followers or rangers and thats why he had a soft spot for celtic, type in ian brown irish flag killarney, and listen too what he says to the crowd.
Planet of the Apes will still be topping the charts in 2525 thanks to Brownie :) 4 tracks into My Way and I'm very impressed. I know his other stuff but what a great way to spend a Sat, seeking out new sounds :)
yes he was in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. just as small role,he i a wizard stirring a coffee cup, drop your popcorn and you would miss him
@hoppybhoy71 correct, ian was doing his thing years before. On the definitely maybe dvd noel said " Liam would hang back and try and make an entrance, and only someone in the crowd would clap and say oh yeah thats Ian Brown"
..i love this song... the best thing is Brownies accent on it .. its class.. i play it non stop.. played it on holiday, sounded so good... god, hes the man, still reelin from the platt field gig, , never lets ya down..
At least he did a cover of it !!! He knew it was a good song. i have been telling my muso mates in Sydney to do a version of this for years. Ian did front The Stone Roses though. Slag them at your peril.
The original version is probably better but a lot of people wouldn't have heard of this song if it wasn't for this cover and he does a good one, especially with that resurrection beat in the background
It's inspired by the C86 tape thing alledgedly but I've never heard that tape from NME so can't reasonably comment. To me Botha songs are quite different but share a common 60s influenced thread of jangly guitars. it was afterall the Mary Chain and the Primals who inspired Squire especially to moved on from the garage flowe punkier sound.
This originally by Zager and Evans from late 1960's and Rolling Stones Paint it Black are to me the inspiration for Made of Stone. Throw in some of Primal Screams Velocity Girl and David Bowies China Girl too, and an intro from some funk tune, but picked in arpeggio style...good pedigree. This cover should be number one in the UK charts, we need to convince Mr Brown to release it as a single!
@kingmonkey33 av ya always been a bell end, dont even like direstraits fuckin muppet, also everyone is, an always will be, entitled to there opinion an its still shite.......has sicktar

@flyingspud75 the way forward lol.has he heard the arctic monkeys latest offering..bollocks..good band..but ian is solo remember..and without the roses no arctic monkeys.alex turner couldnt write a solo album like ian..although the last shadow puppets were great.

dont make me laugh..no other solo artist in the country comes close..name one? why would he want to sound like the roses..you go forwards not backwards(with this song being an exception)who else would write f.e.a.r or golden gaze or loads more..james blunt lol, james morrison lol, even paul weller would bore the pants of you these days.

Sad to see this. He is so over. Ok, it is fun that he is heading back to early Manchester sounds. But this is boring. Come on, this is the guy who did Fools Gold! Actually he was over in 95 when I saw one of the last Roses gigs in Cph.
one of the worst songs ive ever heard,n yes i do like ian brown, zager & evans should not b covered, its up there with the duran duran cover of white lines
i will except your opinion,,i was also vary wary of it before i heard it,,thinking it could be changed about like his version of billie jean,,but i really think this is a fantastic cover, and sounds so close to the original,,you say you like zager and evans,,they only done one song lol..i think you are only looking for an arguement,,great song and great cover by king monkey,,think of all the other shit solo artists like james blunt,,james morrrison,robbie..could they cover this.think about it
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
are u mad?i like ian brown but this is a really bad cover version in fairness,it is one song that should not b covered by anyone, jesus christ this is horrible
i love this so much what i have heard of the new record every song is a tune un like his other albums where he has 1 or 2 amazing songs but others arent

dont make me laugh..no other solo artist in the country comes close..name one? why would he want to sound like the roses..you go forwards not backwards(with this song being an exception)who else would write f.e.a.r or golden gaze or loads more..james blunt lol, james morrison lol, even paul weller would bore the pants of you these days.

Sad to see this. He is so over. Ok, it is fun that he is heading back to early Manchester sounds. But this is boring. Come on, this is the guy who did Fools Gold! Actually he was over in 95 when I saw one of the last Roses gigs in Cph.

i will except your opinion,,i was also vary wary of it before i heard it,,thinking it could be changed about like his version of billie jean,,but i really think this is a fantastic cover, and sounds so close to the original,,you say you like zager and evans,,they only done one song lol..i think you are only looking for an arguement,,great song and great cover by king monkey,,think of all the other shit solo artists like james blunt,,james morrrison,robbie..could they cover this.think about it
