It's inspired by the C86 tape thing alledgedly but I've never heard that tape from NME so can't reasonably comment. To me Botha songs are quite different but share a common 60s influenced thread of jangly guitars. it was afterall the Mary Chain and the Primals who inspired Squire especially to moved on from the garage flowe punkier sound.

This originally by Zager and Evans from late 1960's and Rolling Stones Paint it Black are to me the inspiration for Made of Stone. Throw in some of Primal Screams Velocity Girl and David Bowies China Girl too, and an intro from some funk tune, but picked in arpeggio style...good pedigree. This cover should be number one in the UK charts, we need to convince Mr Brown to release it as a single!

yes he can be a bit out of tune at times..but i have him 8 times and the roses twice....and his singing has been great at times..the second coming tour in the barrowlands..was probably the best band i have seen live...and still to this day my favourite concert..unforgetable...but at spike island you couldnt hear them...but i suppose being there was enough..his presence and charisma carries the guy anyway when his singing is bad..the crowd dont seem to care..still the best front man ever..
