  • Hi Dave. Greetings from Czech and thank you for all these informations you spred.

  • Dave,

Thanks for all the videos, there GREAT! I had a question, did I miss a video of you making or setting up the Yurt? If you have any footage of when you put it together and it isnt on youtube it would be great if you could post that and some footage of taking the Yurt down and packing it away for transport. Keep up the videos, I make time everyday to watch a few of your videos.

    Thanks,

    Casey

  • what do u rreally mean bulletproof?

  • I bought an m6 scout three months ago for $650. It is amazing. Do you often shoot 45lc? I have seen that it can handle it, and that it cannot handle the 45lc.

  • Hi Dave i love the videos i would like to now about the wool blankets hanging in the yurt what % of wool are thay and whare i can get some at thanks

  • @treedemon133 they're probably 70%. at least, that's what the one's at the army surplus are where i live.

  • Hey dave iam going on a pant camping trip. if you dont know what that is, it is were you go camping with out a bag, sleeping bag, or anything that not's in your pockets of your pants. Any suggestions or possibly do a video on it? Thanks! (Keep up the Good Work!)

  • Love the videos Dave, thanks for uploading.

  • i'm interested in the compass. If it's possible to get the info on where i could get one, web site, phone number . company name. I have a few compasses but not one with a sundile i think that's pretty cool.

  • Dave, can you tell us about the self bow that's hanging up inside the yurk?

  • Thanks man I really appreciate it

  • Hey Dave, where did you get that hoodie you're wearing?

  • @chromelleader21 Yep, jumped the gun! ha

  • This series is outstanding. For those who don't know it, I should add that yurts are frequently being rented out at various parks. And they are proving to be very popular. Dave, I will bet that you could do the same. Of course, you would also need to provide some toilet facilities. A dry privy would work. Just a thought!

  • you can shoot 45 long colt with m6 scout?!

  • If anyone has any sources of wool gear that they'd like to share with me, I'm all ears.

  • Also is there a lead mold for the miniball?

  • How can you make Wool waterproof?

  • A divider? Great idea!

  • For anyone wondering about compasses? Buy Daves book in it he teaches a lot!

  • Dave your famous pass it by Red Jacket!

  • Well we do like your shows and knowledge!

  • Hey Dave. Do you think Its possible to rig up a hammock in a yurt? I like yurts and I also like hammocks and I would like to combine the two someday.

  • Great finds Mr C.

    Thanks for the vid.

  • Great shirt! I am going to check that company out. Also great deal on those wool sweaters.

  • Beautiful little shot mold Dave! Perfect for so many things and about the size of 00 Buckshot.

  • Dave get Iris to show what a woman would bring to the yurt.Come on iris get out from behind the camera I'm, sure there's a lot of woman that watch the Pathfinder. and I would bet they would really enjoy Iris showing a woman perspective on living in the Yurt.

I hope every one else will feel the same.I think that for the most, feel a family ness to the Pathfinder.

So come on Iris,We will not bite you.

  • Where is the updated review on the Snugpack Rocket? Or.even Snugpack Bergen for that matter?

  • All hail the 12 gauge!

  • I can't help but smile when I hear him say "we got two scenarios coming up in February" because I am gonna be in one of 'em! Can't Wait Dave! Great finds! Loving the Boreal Hoodie!

  • Dave, I am on a mission to find alpaca socks and blankets without tassels. A visit to the store offered no solution.

  • Dave,

what knife do you have and how much is it. Also where did you get your backpack and how much is it (the backpack with the camoflauge

  • Survival Resources sells those battery holders for aa and aaa batteries in hunter orange for a couple bucks.

  • kool vid nice to see you up in. you was in indiana indy gun and knife show ? i should've drove down if i known you whoulda ben there just to shake your hand.

  • Cool stuff Dave. A question; you are using the front bead only on the shotgun. Ifyou start shooting a lot out of the HnR at what point do you think you may want some other type of sight? or will you stay with just the bead? Love your stuff.

  • That wool shirt is beautiful. I could tell before you ever said a word that it was bulletproof. I was hoping you would mention it.. Outstanding piece of cold weather gear.

  • 5 people accidentally clicked on this vid! :) Later...

  • the battery pack. do you think it could hold .410 shells?

  • I'll post here, love your videos Dave, and these Yurt ones are kick ass!

Mike@STKR Knives on Facebook. Check out my STKR Knives page on FB if you want, I'd love to send you a knife to check out. Tried contacting you in the past, impossible at best, but still support, share and watch your videos as much as I can. Cheers brother!

  • mr.dave, is there a way i can send you something to check out...nothing that i sell, actually i get them free...just something that falls under the container classification that is great addition to my kit ....keep up the good work .

  • love the boreal shirt, but good lord, look at that price!

  • We appreciate u brotha

  • really love that 100% wool hoody, my mom and I are felting instructors at primitive skill gatherings (Rabbitstick, Wintercount Buck eye and Echoes in time to name a few). Wool is an amazing material, thanks for sharing the info on this hoody, stay safe Dave.

  • keep up good work man

  • As always, a great video, great content, thanks Dave.

  • Dave how would you melt your lead. Typically you would want to use a small cast iron pot.

    cheers

  • Awesome compass. NRA sent a gift magazine with a neat fire steel set, It was a solid brass small tin with a magnafying glass in the top had a fire steel flint jute twine and char cloth. It was about 50 bucks though.

  • Dave, I have been looking into the shirts for a while now, but they do not come in my size. I emailed the company and they told me that they are glad to customize the sizes for customers. They said their tallest customer was 7'1" and 375 lbs.

  • Hi Dave, Another great video. You said "if you come across or find lead" and I don't quite get what you mean how can you find lead in the forest????

  • i have seen most of your videos but not 100% of them, have you done a video on that self bow sitting back there to your left?

  • Yes!!! The Journal of the Yurt is back! It's much appreciated Dave!

  • nothing beats a carhart

  • dave i didnt make it to the show this weekend do you and or are you going to be at anymore/the next indy 1500?

  • @sivetnayz March brother

  • Dave,

what size and product do you have for your titanium cup and SS bottle?

  • @flyndublin It is a Vargo TI Cup and Guyot bottle, the bottles are about impossible to get now, we are having our own made at this time with 12 OZ cup and measurment markers, 32OZ Bottle in SS will have stock by end of February.

  • @wildernessoutfitters Good deal!

  • @wildernessoutfitters glad to hear it! 'bout time ;) hope the cap and cap attachment system is similar to guyot's, which I've grown to love

    peace and love, brother

  • For those looking for the bottle Dave is using, Nalgene has them in stock. Search " Filter for Good Steel Bottle" on Nalgene's site. They have GuyotDesign's 38oz SS "Standard" bottle rebranded in junction with Brita. They produced a good number of them in December, and are still in stock.

My father got me one for Christmas, as I'd been looking for one for a while. I love it to death. :)

  • @wildernessoutfitters my wife thinks I am nuts, but I had my almost-8-year-old son naming 3 survival uses for random items as we walked through a Wally World. She thought she would stump him with a sponge mop, but he came up with firewood, spear, and fruit knocker-downer. Keep up the good work. Thanks, Lee

  • @jollyfe I think kids are best because they still have imagination going for em...good job teaching your boy!

  • Thank you Dave! Keep Em' coming Brother!

  • i also am in so much trouble with my wife for not getting a picture with you.....

  • like the stove i bought from you at the gun show, im sure you are tired of the yurt comments

  • nice bow just over you right shoulder there...that the osage?

  • Where's 43rd episode? I can't live without this show.

    lmao...

  • Dave, ive said it many times and ill say it again....your the man bro!! ive been following you since you started bushcraft and you taught me more than ill ever know about wilderness living and what god has given us. Im definitely going to be there in ohio with you all for the basics class! By the way could you do a video on your edc carabiner?

    thanks,

    matt

  • I made a shirt out of my us army wool blanket it damn sure ain't bullet proof like your hoodie but does keep me warm in these cold Florida nights out here on the river. Dave your the man brother keep up the great work!

  • Hay Dave,I understand your pretty busy with all that your doing. But I wounder if you can show how to build a wigwam.these are almost the same as the Yurt

  • Howdy Dave: Do you have any idea why they quit making the M6? I doubt that there are any quality control issues, as everyone I know who has one (Yourself included) all say the thing is bullet proof. That having been said I'm guessing it wasn't a very good seller back in the day? Not terribly profitable back then maybe? Have you or anyone else you may know of ever contacted Springfield and say "Hey, why don't you start making the M6 again?" What might you think would be thier response?

  • oh yeah, about the buckshot mold, you'll need leather gloves or to put wooden handles on it so not to burn yourself, those gun bag molds heat up insanely quick, like on the 2nd or 3rd ball. it's tedious too, molding 9 balls just for one shot. for birdshot, you can take a spoonful of lead and drop it from standing height into a bucket of water, it makes it a bit roughly, but it works.

  • I have one of those Empire Wool and Canvas 100% wool Boreal shirts. I have to totally agree with your assesment of it. It is the finest garment I own. It was 5 degrees here in New Hampshire, and I wore a sweater, a 200 weight fleece jacket, and this boreal shirt (with all the ties pulled tight and the hood up), and I was toasty warm. It is worth every penny. They even custom sewed one for me to fit me perfectly for the same price.

  • Great video Dave. When I use wool on wool it seems I'm bombarded with "static electricity", how do you handle this? Or do you have this problem with wool?

  • @HBC258 You can stick a nail through the bottom of your boot to let the electricity flow through to the ground, but otherwise, if you're at all insulated from the ground, there will be an inevitable buildup.

  • Them shirts are nice

  • Great to see an update, I stumbled across your videos here on good old you tube and have since found dual survival. Didn't know what a celeb you were Dave. You have real passion and it shows. All the time you can do what you love and make a living, go for it!

I'd love the chance to speak to you some day, but as I live in Scotland UK I can't see myself bumping into you ;-)

Thank you for all the vids and info you produce mate, I look forward to catching up again soon. If you ever visit the UK I'd

  • yes! the yurt is back :D by the way dave, how much was the shirt?

  • Dave can you do a video on dental hygiene in the wild?

  • Those battery caddies are from PowerPax d*t net

  • Sweet, that is what I wanted to know! Thanks Dave.

  • really useful and good lookin jacket brother..now buy some 100% wool russian walenki boots and u looks like a real oldscool woodsman..any way ...have a good one

  • I was able to find a site that sells those awesome 100% wool sweaters that you got for 5 bucks a piece.. and ive only payed around 12$ a piece for them... and ive gotten 3 of them... also.. i got a pair of 100% wool army pants.. from WW2 ara... for only 28$

    Love those shirts!

    Thanks for the wonderful Videos!

    take care!

    Aj

  • its not HARD to find 100% WOOL go to youre local thrift stores u will find all sorts of 100% wool for DIRT CHEAP!!! you dont need to spend big bucks, you can always sew youre own pockets into any shirt you want!

  • Keep it up!

  • John McCann at Survival Resources sells the battery carriers if anyone is looking for them.

  • dave, for the first time in my life i am dissapointed in you! you just said you wernt realy looking for guns! there is no such thing as too many guns!

  • @simplemen55 Well my eyes are often bigger than my wallet so I have to phyc myself out before hand LOL

  • @wildernessoutfitters LMAO great answer :o)

  • Where's 43rd episode? I can't live without this show.

  • @tekknorat Sorry bro this was 43

  • @wildernessoutfitters Allrighty then :) Very very very cool show, I love it, please continue as long as possible. Could be nice to see all 4 seasons of living in the Yourt. There probably isn't a lot of changes, but even minor is interesting and useful to know, just like the pack differs for summer and winter, my guess.

  • @wildernessoutfitters Back in 1987 I was stationed in Hanau Germany and we were having 100% wool liners made and sewn into the old green style rain jackets by a Korean Seamstress. Those things were the bomb for staying warm. They would sew in pockets for maps and pens and other things on the inside that were very handy where ever you wanted them. I have since lost the one I had made but now have an old rain jacket and old blanket and I am looking for a seamstress to make me a new one.

  • I made the mistake of giving away my 100% wool pea coat a few years ago. Took me one more winter to figure out my error.

  • Another good video. Looking forward to getting my 22LR adapter for my 20 gauge and thanks for the discount.

  • Re: Common Man prices

The way I look at it, is something may not be very low in price, but if it is very durable and will last a long time, then it's still common man when you compare its price over its years of service, versus replacing the lower-end item. The only things that defy this is surplus items, but that is because taxpayers paid the upfront cost, you're just paying a low price to get it back, so to speak.

  • Listen up everybody: Just saw a link that says you can get this shirt at Lester River Bushcraft.

  • Hey Dave, very happy to see the yurt series is back online. I am currently reading "Undaunted Courage", a book that chronicles the Lewis & Clark Expedition. I found it interesting that Meriwether Lewis actually carried an early air rifle with him, and used to demonstrate it to the Indians. What are your thoughts on using a modern air rifle as a "21st Century Long-hunter" option? Ammo is more compact, lighter and cheaper than .22 LR. Quieter operation could also be an advantage when stalking game

  • @Nacholibre1968 don't forget that the only thing you need to make/find is lead balls -rather than 'bullets', powder, primers and shell casings... so that would be another plus!

  • Good lord...$195.00 for that boreal shirt?! That's insane.

  • @tysy73

you know where to get one cheaper ?

    greetings

  • @michieldeschrijver Yes, I'll make my own. That's a pretty simple pattern.

  • Dave, I love these videos man. Each one gives me good ideas of the things that i could use to make things easier when I go out into the wilderness. On a different note, my Grandmother who I never really knew while growing up used to work at the Springfield Armory back in the day...to bad she never brought her work home with her. I would have loved to own some of those rifles that she worked on.

  • they still make those woolypully sweaters for the military. i bought mine at the military clothing store on fort richardson, they're acrylic though.

  • I put the ECWS II Parka over the Boreal Shirt and it was freaking unbelievable. They are almost the exact same length and hood size. You need to be in pretty cold conditions with rain or it will really heat you up.

  • Dave great video man keep them coming

  • I carry 6 AAA Batteries and a smal tampon for firelighting in a film canister. Its a perfect fit and waterproof. Just a cheap alternative to that batteryholder.

  • CZE did take over manufacture in conjunction with springfield. most M-6 you will find is a CZE/springfield. if you find a millitary M-6 with a 14" barrel and chambered in .22 hornet/.410 then expect to pay the high cost for that item...it is very rare. the older M6 can go from 7-- to 1200 bucks.

mine was 350 because it is a CZE/Springfield chambered in .22 lr. this is by far the most common M6 you will find. how this helps you out when talking about rarity/cost

    there ya go trail boss.

  • glad to see u back Dave!

  • you should come to the wannemacher gun show in Tulsa, its huge 11 acres of guns knives and etc over 4100 tables. Also I've seen M6 scouts for sale there, you see any gun you ever wanted to buy there. its on march 31st and april 1st.

if you go to their website they have pictures of the show, it'll put the 1500 to shame, you can find their site by typing wannemacher gun show into google.(easiest way to get you there) I hope you decide to come, it would be awesome to meet you.

  • dave your a busy man but ty for your hard work i really enjoy your videos especially this series ,i got some ideas and ive made some jonny cakes and some hard tack gonna make a trip to basspro in a couple weeks in fort worth gonna pick up some more cast iron and look for some single shots while im there

  • Dave why no dutch oven in the yurt? cast iron Brother. bake fry stew boil. common man all the way

  • easily. Maybe that would be something for you to experiment with in a video sometime? I look forward to continuing to watch your programs. Thanks! It's been a lot of help.

  • Hey dave, regarding the shirt. I've always been told that 100% is always better, but are there any real draw backs or disadvantages to an 85/15? Im real interested in the shirt, i think its awesome, and it'd be nice to know the real reason spending that bit extra is more beneficial. Please respond :)

  • Dave, I have been watching the programs for a while now. I live in Cincy, so we are almost neighbors. The Yurt series got me thinking about a common man emergency shelter for my wife and I. I'm thinking that using a 10' x 20' tarp with a reflective liner (like the blue ones Walmart usually has) to make a tipi might work really well because then we can make a fire inside if it's cold. All we could need to carry would be the tarp and paracord. We could recreate the poles fairly... Continued...

  • Dave,

Any chance of you attending the Eastern Sports & Outdoor Show in Harrisburg, PA ?? Febuary 4 -12. Huge show with lots of vendors & exhibits.

  • dave you need to shoot a czech rifle before you make a opinion cause the bullet proof

  • Great woolen shirt.

  • I have, and prefer the Savage 24V over/under .223 over 12 gauge. It makes a great varmint gun, and I have taken deer with it as well. It is a very accurate gun even with just the iron sights, although I have scoped it in the past.

  • want the sweater - but $185???? cmon.. it damn well better be bullet proof for almost two hundred bucks..

  • @PEEKProductionsTOR If you want 100% wool it's $195.00.

  • Why the hell is it so hard to find 100% wool products? Don't they have sheep in China? Hahaha

  • @dreckken LMAO! Evidently not.

  • @dreckken Nope. A lot of cows.

  • @dreckken cheaper to make the blend, so they do, not much difference in it's performance as long as you have at least 85% wool content and the blend contains no cotton.

  • @dreckken ha no kidding. If you go on ebay and spend some time looking you can find 100% wool blankets (washable), shirts, hats, gloves. I just picked up a couple of US army blanks 100% wool (25% or 35% recycled wool). I also washed them in the washer and dried them in the dryer. Don't buy the propoleyne shirts too thick and something disturbing about buying something that says "Retarded Citizens".

  • I own that same bullet mold ! Grandpa found it in his shed. Certainly a good piece of gear.

  • Nice to see you back in the yurt Dave, looking forward to some more videos

    Matt

    (Snakehouse Exotics)

  • dave...you need your own series on tv...spiritpipeman..

  • Cool and good video! Thanks. See you, Sepp

  • You should get an insert for your 12 gauge that adapts to a 223, or a 22 hornet.

  • That shot melter reminds me of Mel gibsons total bad-assery in The Patriot cuz it was the first time I ever saw one

  • Dave, your a beast! :D

  • I've been looking for an M6 Scout for forever and a day, and just can't seem to find one. I got to the point of desperation and called Springfield to ask if they had any intention of bringing it back because of it's recent popularity. They simply told me not at this time nor anytime in the near future. I hope they realize how much money they are losing.

  • @Warlock359 There are at least a half dozen for sale right now on Gunbroker.

  • Dave, are you a pack rat? cause you buy alot of stuff. haha

  • Are you getting any of this thunderstorm that we are in Indiana? If so how is the yurt holding up?

  • I love the front pocket set up.

  • Good job Dave with all off your videos. I am from Romania and ai discovre you on the DISCOVERI cannel .

  • I love these stock and trade vids Dave. I hope you post more in time.

  • That hoodie's awesome! Wish I could afford the $185.

  • Do those adapters work well in double barrel shotguns?

  • Do you or are you gonna make it to any shows in Oregon?

  • Keep doing what you do, Dave! We all love your presence and your teachings!

  • nice one , thanks

  • I've said it a few times before. Check out a company called Toggi. they make insanely well made wool shirts for sea downers. I have one and I'm really sorry I didn't purchased a few when I had the chance. They're not the cheapest shirts out there. Mine cost me 40+$ (new) but it's the best thing I own.

  • @BravingTheOutDoors I did...apparently they are in the UK and don't bother to list prices on their website. Where do you buy them?

  • @rogerpemberton Well I bought mine in London at Covent garden. There as a really good store there for sailors and basically sea stuff. The store is called Nauticalia and they have a lot of really good things. For instance, that one eye monocular that NutNFancy once reviewed and costs about 120$ in America actually costs 10£ in that store!! I kid you not! They also have really thick heavy duty wool coats but those are expensive, above the 100£ mark etc. Check their website.

  • @BravingTheOutDoors I just did. They do have some nice wool sweaters(jumpers?), etc...and they are surely expensive. I'll keep Nauticalia in mind if/when I have a hankering for something really expensive and from my genetic homeland.....

  • Happy you're back making videos. I was upset you haven't been making videos.

  • I want one of those shirts so bad. I am a very common man. My strategy for getting these.higher end items is around christmas and birthday having everyone chip in 10 or so bucks for something I want. Depending on how popular you are you can end up with nice items like these.a.couple times a year a gb axe for birthday and one of these.shirts for christmas? No problem! Not to mention good ole fashioned saving up!

  • When come out with the AR round addaptor please make ask them to make it in 20 guage also I would really like to buy one

  • Have you considered a box of .410 bore golden bear 3" shotshells. They have metal casings unlike the plastic you get with the regular .410 shotshells. You could Also use .454 Casull Brass. They are worth it if you plan on reloading your own survival rifle in the field. O and I am sure you know but for the other people out there, Don't shoot .454 Casull full loads threw your .410 shotgun, It might blow up. I just picked up a heritage rough rider chambered in .45 long colt and .410 shotshell.

  • jeez i dont think you will ever find a kinder man than Dave

  • $195,Lester River Bushcraft.100% wool. worth the price for sure but if i can't scrape up the money i may make my own out of wool army blankets or any wool blanket i can find.but i know i can never make it this nice. very nice peice of gear and worth getting.

  • Great Video... Good products.. in most cases you get what you pay for..

  • lol dave ill be sad when your yurt series ends lol i would love to have a yurt on a piece of property like that everybody seems to think im weird cause everybody i know wants money and to be rich and live in a big house and stuff like that so they think im wierd cause id be just fine and dandy living in a cave or a yurt or something similar if i could find a place like your property but i think i would rather build a yurt then buy one but as far as my family is concerned im just a neandorthol

  • Great video Dave..

I checked the website and they don't make sizes over XL

What the hell??? So larger guys get to be cold? That's just wrong. =(

    Anyways... thanks for sharing.

  • love that hoodie

  • Dave I like the Military wool shirt's, I been looking for the acrylic sleep shirts. I didn't know they made them in wool. I would like to see a review on the old Savage 24 O/U 410 or 20 GA. under a .22 LR or WMR. I wish they would start to make them again.

    Joe Ritrovato

  • glad to see that yurt again

  • I was at a local used gun store / auction house the other day asking about the over under .22/410 gauge gun. I was told that a .22/20 gauge and .22/12 gauge were also made (probably the other gauges of shotgun too. the manufacture was savage model 24 series s. They are not as compact as the m6 scout but you might be interested in them.

  • @BookGolem I remember drooling over a friends Savage over and under 22/410 when I was a little kid 40 years ago. I can't understand why they quit making cool guns like that.

  • Dave I'm really curious and interested in your school when you come to Florida this Feb. I read on your website what the class consists of but I have a couple more questions, if I message you them would you have time to answer? Thanks.

  • That Boreal shirt has got to be one of the coolest pieces of clothing I've seen. What size is the one you're wearing, Dave? Looks like they might run a bit large. Gotta pick one of those up, and it looks like I can get one here in MN.

  • What size MSR seagull do you have? Is that the 775mL, or the 1.1L?
