Eric Dickerson i believe should be closer to the #1 spot or at least top 2, The man scored 57 TD's the first four years of his NFL career not to mention rushing for close to 7000 yards at the end of those first 4 years, and if he hadn't been injured might have reached the 10,000 yard mark sooner than he did, which he broke at 91games. I just so happened to have worked with an ex college girlfriend of his in the late 80's and the woman kept track of all his stats and never missed play.
I've been watching football for along time and i watched and did some research of Rb's in the past lets say the last 30-35 years. What i realised is that Rb's back then they where stars as soon as they steped on the field when they turned Pro. Let me give you a few examples :Earl Campbell, Billy sims,Eric Dickerson,OJ an the list goes on.Eric has by far the greatest first two seasons ever by a RB in history. Some of their careers where cutt short but man those guys had character and skill.
jim brown was 260 lbs he was a lineman at running back yes he was good but was he the best WALTER PAYTON for sure ur video is good but i think u were high
when you talk about the greatest of all times . jim brown was far and away better than the others. they were all great but brown was in another league. barry sanders? the man just had way too many carries for minus yards. this is a quote from barry sanders father"As good as Barry was, it would be foolish for anyone to say that he ever approached Jim Brown." and walter payton he led the league in rushing only once. brown did it 8 times in 9 seasons
First of all, people need to stop talking about O-line as it pertains to "NFL" running backs. It isn't hard to find run blockers at that level. Barry Sanders' line in Detroit was plenty good at blocking for him. Protection is another matter. Jim Brown is Babe Ruth. He was so ahead of his time that he dominated unlike any other back ever. Period. I'll take Payton over Barry though. Barry was a better RUNNER, but Payton was a better PLAYER.
I drive by the HOF every week on the way to church, and the huge wall painting of Walter Payton's facing the parking lot was taken down for renovation. Hope they put it back up. Not that he is necessarily the best, but he was certainly amazing to watch. That being said, will you PLEASE take OJS off the list. Nobody wants to be reminded of the man who dumped 2 people into hell.
ok, honestly walter payton is my favorite HB..but if you think about it barry sanders is the best because he didnt have an O line, and payton did. and for Jim Brown...he can fuck off
your so bad at doing this barry and walter are better than jim brown. And by the way i saw the pic 4 your QBs vid and McNabb isnt even in the the top 20! you suck
walter payton is way BETER THAN BARY SANDERS and Jim Brown im tired of comin to these vids and seeing Barry i guy who didnt even finish his carrer put ahead of walter,oh and by the way,WORST MUSIC EVER
how is LT #8? he should be in the top 5, someone who holds the record for most rushing tuchdown in a season should not be #8.....GO CHARGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, JETS SUCK!!!!
actually like this list a lot with a few minor changes. in my opinion marcus allen # 10, campbell # 9, dorsett off the list, emmitt switch with dickerson, and have walter payton switch with barry. very good list though in my opinion, but haters will always hate. impossible to make any top 10 list on youtube.
ok man, why the fuck is gayle sayers an honorable mention? His yards per carry average was one of the greatest ever and he was oneof the ost elusive backs in nfl history. Some people even consider sears as being in the top 4 running backs of all time and john riggins was no where near as good as Sears.
From a purely running standpoint, Sanders all day! No one had the moves Sanders did and most of his career he did it with no offensive line to speak of. Hands down there has never been a running back like Barry Sanders. You had to see the difference to really understand how quick Sanders was. I remember a Monday night game with the Lions at Dallas and Emmit Smith looked like he was in slomo compared to Sanders. Not even close. Jim Brown my ass.
@Halo3Arbiter ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME. you are literally the biggest fucking down syndome dumbass to ever say payton is better because sanders was literally yards away from breaking his record and stoped cause he wanted to stop playing he didnt care for records or fame or money he loved the game and so he stopped because he wasnt having that fun after him carrying the lions for his career. barry sanders #1 running back to ever walk the earth
@herrmann1234torres sanders ran behind 4 mutli time probowl linemen, 2 were 1st team all pro members and 1 is in the hall of fame, payton never even had 1 linemen that made even 1 probowl until 1984, his 10th year, yeah sure sanders was more elusive, but he also had no power, payton was both elusive and powerful and the greatest stiff arm ever, best pass optiong back ever, best blocking back ever, returned kicks, plus payton had over 4,000 rec. yds. to barrys 2,000 yds.
I played the position of running back, and I can tell you that in my opinion Walter Payton is the GREATEST running back of all time. If you consider, blocking, catching, running the ball, receiving, power and strength. It's Walter Payton hands down!!!
@Moody1995 I agree, Walter was the best and for the majority of his career the Bears were not great and he carried them. A lot of people would say Jim Brown was the best be he admittedly didn't block at all and I don't think he was ever used as a receiver.
@Moody1995 You're right dude, he even threw for several touchdowns! And no back in history was ever as durable than Walter. We're not even talking about his numbers! I agree, overall he was the best football player to ever play the running back position. Hands down!
You can debate who the best "rusher" of all time is and there are many candidates including Barry Sanders who was the best slashing, elusive type rusher, Earl Campbell who the old guys will tell you is the best power rusher or Emmit Smith who is the career yardage leader but running back is a complete position not just rushing. The best running back of all time IS Walter Payton because no one came close to being as good as him at rushing, blocking, receiving and passing.
emmit smith tiene mas yardas que todos ellos, tiene mas touchdown que todos ellos y tiene mas superbowls ganados que todos ellos, lo ponen en el 5? no mamen como son pendejos jajaja
Every time I watch one of these Top 10 lists from hipo250 I feel like I lose a piece of my football integrity and life. Yet I can't stop watching out of sheer ridiculousness.
@hipo250 Earl Campbell was one of the the most dominant runners I saw in my lifetime. William Andrews for Atlanta in the early eighties would be on someones list if his career was not derailed by injuries.
sorry but when you see all kinds of running backs like payton and brown. hard runners that the d knows they need a buffdozer to take down you can not be #1 when you have a guy that NO ONE can be like. name me one player that can do so many moves in such a short time and read the field better then barry sanders. just look at the highlight films for all these guys in the top 5. 4 look almost like. one stands apart from the rest.
honarable mention gale sayers how bout you put earll cambell as an honarable mention and put gale sayers on the list and why wasnt terrel davis at least an honarable mention
First of all, most of yall list sucks because you dont even have jim brown on it. Second of all most of yall list sucks because yall have payton over jim brown. Third of all most of yall list sucks because you dont have sanders at 1 or jim brown at 1
walter payton and barry sanders are the best runningbacks of all time. all this shit about emmitt smith having so man yards is shot. hopefully anyone that thinks that looked up how good his line was. and oh yeah did we all forget about michael irvin and troy aikman? you wonder how it was so hard to cover the run because they had all those allstars.look up who paytyon had to take the pressure off him.check to see how many pro bowlers came from the lions with barry. NONE
everyone says barry has the most negative yardage yes true but do you not know he had the worst o-line ever or even one of the worst teams i mean every team they played pretty much had one solid defensive strategy and that was to stop barry sanders cause he was the only major threat so you cant say shit about rings cause he cant carry a whole team to the super bowl were not talkin about high school anymore you need more then one superstar to get a ring and the lions didnt have anybody else.
OK---there are the top 3 backs in the entire history, in order by # of yards---now, as you can see, each player played for a different amout of time--lets average out what each back did, while he played---simple math--take his total yards, and divide it by the number of years he played, and look at the average---here is what you get--
Wow, not just this, but many post in here, about this subject---I got an idea--let's take out opinions, and look at numbers only----lets use the holy grail for a RB, rushing yards,OK?---here are the all time yard totals-----
i just want to share something i found that shows why barry deserves the number one spot looking at facts not opinions. Note: this is not my work i have found this on another site and would like to settle this argument once and for all
how was earl campbell not with jim brown and what about Bo Jackson even though he didn't play that long he was already great and then walter payton was better than barry sanders he has rings and barry don't and he still better cause barry ran backwards sometimes 1.Jim Brown 2.Walter Payton 3.Earl Campbell 4.Gale Sanders 5. Barry Sanders 6.Eric Dickerson 7.Emmitt Smith 8.Da Juice 9.Marshall Faulk 10.Tony Dorsett
Are you guys dumb Walter is the best of all time hands down look what walter did with the worst line. He was incredible not to say anything bad about Barry. Barry is 2nd on my list but Walter was remarkable
well you should put curtis martin on the list because he was 1st team all decade over LT who was second and cmon gale sayers isnt on it im sorry that was a huge mistake
Take into account what an all around running back is; receiver, blocker, and runner. Jim Brown and Walter Payton, 1 and 2, 2 and 1. Barry Sanders could run but not so much the other aspects.
But of course, you listen to rap and hip hop, no wonder your brain is fucked up. You are the kind of moron who would put LeBron James and Kobe Bryant ahead of Michael Jordan on a basketball list. Go fuck your mama.
Anybody who puts Gale Sayers Number 13, behind LaDanian Tomlinson, Marshall Faulk, and Eric Dickerson cannot be taken seriously. Why do you even waste your time showing us what a pea brain you are?
Lol no. Jim Brown is the undisputed champ. Only player to average over 5.0 yards per carry for a career, only player to average over 100 yds per game for a career. Statistically, Barry is #2, but I'll but Payton there. 3 is Barry 4 is Gale sayers 5. O.J. Simpson 6. Emmit Smith 7. Eric Dickerson 8. Tony Dorsett 9. Earl Campbell. 10. Marcus Allen
@TheDeathsRequiem Barry Sanders played 1 more year than Jim Brown and put up almost 3k more yards... if jim had played one more season he wouldn't have put that much up, and lets not forget barry was a one man team pretty much, with a much worse O-line.
@nsaucier1988 Yes, but Jim played in a time when the season was 12 games, Barry's were 16, so you can't compare season. You have to compare averaged per carry and per gamer. Both of which are higher for Brown, albeit slightly. Barry is probably the second best.
@TheDeathsRequiem Thats true, but I honestly believe that the talent of defenses back then were far inferior to the talent of defenses of the modern era that barry played against.. thats a matter of opinion ofc but I really dont think the defenses were as tough back then as they are now
@nsaucier1988 Maybe, maybe not. Personally I believe they were just as strong. Back then running was the only way to go, so they knew that Jim was gonna run, and they couldn't stop him. There are quite a few hall of fame players at each defensive position that Brown had to play against.
I agree with the fellow that ranks Cambell and Dickerson In the top ten and Dorsett had more talent than Emmitt (just no line),and believe it or not, in their prime I'll take OJ Simpson over Emmitt.
Walter,Barry,Jim,Gayle, and Bo; nuff said!!! These were the phenoms of running backs, and yah thats Bo Jackson in the top 5,again these 5 stand alone. One thing about PaytonI remember is him getting hit ,over and over and over again, and still be the first one up EVERY TIME! to this day ive never seen anyone ever do this except him.We will never see anything like Barry or Walter ever, or at least these two we should judge them by.
please ppl jim brown and many others on this list are great but ask this just like any other sport? what would babe ruth do with 2000s pitching... or Jack Nicklaus with modern drivers as a michigander biased view, please read and think about it who on anyones top 10/20/50/100 in the last 20 years can still play today and have the same year in year out stats in todays nfl... one man! barry sanders could be drafted in 2011 and perform as he did then, fire is still hot and ice is still cold
Fair enough. I personally think Bo J was the best running back of all-time. If he had played a full season and not had hip he would have broken 2000yds each year he played. He still has the highest ave. yrds/carry I believe, and ran the fastest 40 in the history of the combines (4.21). When you watch his highlight film, he literally runs away from DB's, over LB"S and around LineM He had set the record for yrds in one game which was only recently broken by Adrian P. The guy was a phenom.
k the list is jim brown then walter then emmit or barry and so on but gale should be in the top ten and lt doesnt even crack that list yet sorry but he doesnt
you fail gale was 30000 times better then dorsett LT not in the top 10 faulk good a been a little higher emmit smith lower he had the benifit of a great line and two superstars to take attention away from him but number 2 and 1 you got right
Ladanian tomlinson shouldnt even be in the top 10. Be real. You got Ladanian Tomlinson over Bo Jackson , Gale Sayers, and Franco harris? R u Serious? Those 3 should be on that list. Bo Jackson and Gale Sayers were both better than Tomlinson and Emmitt by far. The rest of the list I agree with.
u cant put jim brown on this list because he was a full back and this video is top 10 running backs so that makes barry sanders number 1 which he is and walter payton 2 and everyone else behind them
Did you put Gayle Sayers under Honorable Mention b/c his career was cut short due to injury? Barring injury....he should be in the top 10 of anyone's list. For me...no doubt, best RB is Barry Sanders. No one like him...
earl cambell should be hire and gale should have at least been number 8
ladanian tomlinson what the !!!!!!!!!! his spot should be changed with gale sayers
marshall faulk !!!!!!!!!!!!! should be number 10 oj omg he wasnt even that good and he shouldnt be on the list ... this is ho the list should have went 1 walter payton 2 jim brown 3 barry sanders 4 emmit smith 5 erick dickerson 6earl cambell 7 gale sayers 8tony dorsett 9 marshall faulk 10 terrell davis
earl cambell should be hire and gale should have at least been number 8

everyone says barry has the most negative yardage yes true but do you not know he had the worst o-line ever or even one of the worst teams i mean every team they played pretty much had one solid defensive strategy and that was to stop barry sanders cause he was the only major threat so you cant say shit about rings cause he cant carry a whole team to the super bowl were not talkin about high school anymore you need more then one superstar to get a ring and the lions didnt have anybody else.
xXxIrishxXx32 6 months ago
Smith--played 15 seasons--18355 divided by 15= 1223 yards avg a season.
Payton-played 13 years--16726 divided by 13=1286 yards avg a season.
Sanders played 10 seasons--15,269 divided by 10 =1526 yards avg a season
xXxIrishxXx32 6 months ago
@xXxIrishxXx32 with a terrible team, those stats speak very highly of Barry.
SeirbhiseachDia 6 months ago
OK---there are the top 3 backs in the entire history, in order by # of yards---now, as you can see, each player played for a different amout of time--lets average out what each back did, while he played---simple math--take his total yards, and divide it by the number of years he played, and look at the average---here is what you get--
xXxIrishxXx32 6 months ago
Wow, not just this, but many post in here, about this subject---I got an idea--let's take out opinions, and look at numbers only----lets use the holy grail for a RB, rushing yards,OK?---here are the all time yard totals-----
1-Emmitt Smith-dallas 1990-2002 cowboys,2003-2004 cardinals--18,355 yds
2-Walter payton-1975-1987 Bears--16,726 yards
3- Barry Sanders-1989-1998 lions--15,269 yards
xXxIrishxXx32 6 months ago
i just want to share something i found that shows why barry deserves the number one spot looking at facts not opinions. Note: this is not my work i have found this on another site and would like to settle this argument once and for all
xXxIrishxXx32 6 months ago
how was earl campbell not with jim brown and what about Bo Jackson even though he didn't play that long he was already great and then walter payton was better than barry sanders he has rings and barry don't and he still better cause barry ran backwards sometimes 1.Jim Brown 2.Walter Payton 3.Earl Campbell 4.Gale Sanders 5. Barry Sanders 6.Eric Dickerson 7.Emmitt Smith 8.Da Juice 9.Marshall Faulk 10.Tony Dorsett

CRAZYmanDAN1996 7 months ago
Take into account what an all around running back is; receiver, blocker, and runner. Jim Brown and Walter Payton, 1 and 2, 2 and 1. Barry Sanders could run but not so much the other aspects.
Pallhh 7 months ago
But of course, you listen to rap and hip hop, no wonder your brain is fucked up. You are the kind of moron who would put LeBron James and Kobe Bryant ahead of Michael Jordan on a basketball list. Go fuck your mama.
atty1chgo 7 months ago
Anybody who puts Gale Sayers Number 13, behind LaDanian Tomlinson, Marshall Faulk, and Eric Dickerson cannot be taken seriously. Why do you even waste your time showing us what a pea brain you are?

I'll go with "Sweet" Walter Payton...

@TheDeathsRequiem Barry Sanders played 1 more year than Jim Brown and put up almost 3k more yards... if jim had played one more season he wouldn't have put that much up, and lets not forget barry was a one man team pretty much, with a much worse O-line.
nsaucier1988 7 months ago
@nsaucier1988 Yes, but Jim played in a time when the season was 12 games, Barry's were 16, so you can't compare season. You have to compare averaged per carry and per gamer. Both of which are higher for Brown, albeit slightly. Barry is probably the second best.
TheDeathsRequiem 7 months ago
@TheDeathsRequiem Thats true, but I honestly believe that the talent of defenses back then were far inferior to the talent of defenses of the modern era that barry played against.. thats a matter of opinion ofc but I really dont think the defenses were as tough back then as they are now
nsaucier1988 7 months ago
@nsaucier1988 Maybe, maybe not. Personally I believe they were just as strong. Back then running was the only way to go, so they knew that Jim was gonna run, and they couldn't stop him. There are quite a few hall of fame players at each defensive position that Brown had to play against.
TheDeathsRequiem 7 months ago
how do u put the all time leading rusher at #5
Nemo400Montana 8 months ago
@Nemo400Montana Quite simply, Emmit has a great O-line to run behind, and played longer than most. He is lucky to be at #5.
TheDeathsRequiem 8 months ago
@TheDeathsRequiem thats y i think he passed walter payton because he played longer in my opinion walter payton the best running back

Jim Brown didn't play long enough to be #1.
ShadeDracos 8 months ago
I agree with the fellow that ranks Cambell and Dickerson In the top ten and Dorsett had more talent than Emmitt (just no line),and believe it or not, in their prime I'll take OJ Simpson over Emmitt.
kmayist 8 months ago
Walter,Barry,Jim,Gayle, and Bo; nuff said!!! These were the phenoms of running backs, and yah thats Bo Jackson in the top 5,again these 5 stand alone. One thing about PaytonI remember is him getting hit ,over and over and over again, and still be the first one up EVERY TIME! to this day ive never seen anyone ever do this except him.We will never see anything like Barry or Walter ever, or at least these two we should judge them by.

please ppl jim brown and many others on this list are great but ask this just like any other sport? what would babe ruth do with 2000s pitching... or Jack Nicklaus with modern drivers as a michigander biased view, please read and think about it who on anyones top 10/20/50/100 in the last 20 years can still play today and have the same year in year out stats in todays nfl... one man! barry sanders could be drafted in 2011 and perform as he did then, fire is still hot and ice is still cold
ghostfaceooo4 9 months ago
@axon117 ur an idiot LT hasn't played long enough to be the best
naterod9622 9 months ago
I think 10-6 is bad, but your top 5 is great, i mean really good!!!
TheYellowDK 9 months ago
Along with Bo J., I think an arguement could be made for Campbell, Brown, Payton and Sanders as being the best ever.
The2guard 9 months ago
Jim Brown is still the best!
mygodISclapton 9 months ago
After Jackson, I think Campbell, Payton, Brown and Sanders all could be regarded as the best. My opinion.
The2guard 9 months ago
Fair enough. I personally think Bo J was the best running back of all-time. If he had played a full season and not had hip he would have broken 2000yds each year he played. He still has the highest ave. yrds/carry I believe, and ran the fastest 40 in the history of the combines (4.21). When you watch his highlight film, he literally runs away from DB's, over LB"S and around LineM He had set the record for yrds in one game which was only recently broken by Adrian P. The guy was a phenom.
The2guard 9 months ago
Bo jackson at number 14?? u got this list all messed up.

good list, you need OJ at 4 though, he was better than Smith....if he had played behind that Dallas line maybe 2500 yards in a season..
warbler44 10 months ago
you fail gale was 30000 times better then dorsett LT not in the top 10 faulk good a been a little higher emmit smith lower he had the benifit of a great line and two superstars to take attention away from him but number 2 and 1 you got right
Yoder23m 10 months ago
good list but i think you should switch Ladanian Tomlinson with Gale Sayers
RMTB1FORLIFE 10 months ago
Ladanian tomlinson shouldnt even be in the top 10. Be real. You got Ladanian Tomlinson over Bo Jackson , Gale Sayers, and Franco harris? R u Serious? Those 3 should be on that list. Bo Jackson and Gale Sayers were both better than Tomlinson and Emmitt by far. The rest of the list I agree with.
michaeljackson1978 10 months ago
@michaeljackson1978 LT deserves to be here so stfu
legithacks11 9 months ago
Ladanian is overated. He's not even top fifteen.

Payton, Brown, Sanders, Sayers. If any of these backs had played on the Cowboys team Smith played on-OMG, they would have had 30,000 yards
vambo13257 10 months ago
u cant put jim brown on this list because he was a full back and this video is top 10 running backs so that makes barry sanders number 1 which he is and walter payton 2 and everyone else behind them
