I cry as much today as I did the day I watched this scene! It will forever be one of my most memorable GH scenes for the way it affected me. Having BJ come to take her dad to Heaven was exactly as it should have been. God Speed, Tony.
@Goldenrod636 The Feb 2006 sweeps story was an encephalitis outbreak that affected most of the town. Several died - Tony, Courtney, and Sam's brother Danny. Some got it and got well. There were limited numbers of the antidote, but then they found more. That's what's in the syringe that Patrick is holding when he enterst the room just moments after Tony died.
OMG, what a tearjerker! I am crying. I loved Brad Maule/Tony Jones. I absolutely agree with PXL- GH writers just bring back their old timers in order to kill them off. The exception is Tony (Luke). And since they've long since made him a basically worthless drunk, I don't think he even counts. You never see Bobbie or Monica anymore. It's all about freaking Sonny and his life. It is not worth watching.
What really pisses me off most about this storyline was that the real culprits and masterminds behind this whole mess were never brought to justice. Where were the villains? There was no mention of who manufactured the virus or why. I hate the way they write these stories now. Back in the ole days somebody would have paid the ultimate price for this considering all the death it caused.
@kingovharts I never realized this, but your right. And that pisses me off! I already knew that they could have gotten months of storyline out of this by bringing Tony and Bobbie back together before the death, then by having Bobbie fully mourn, and this could have had even more story for her! UgH!
I don't remember Tony all that much outside of the time when he and Bobbie were getting divorced, but I remember a little bit of GH the time around here when he died. I remember he was way more accepting of Lucas' homosexuality than Bobbie (or, accepted it way more quickly).
@proud2bamom200 She's still making occasional appearances on the show. However, she has not been on since July of 2010. I am afraid she may not make another appearance. The same goes for Leslie Charleson's Monica. However, Monica is (so far) still seen more than Bobbie. However, Jacklyn Zeman has her own jewelry line and appeared on the websoap, The Bay.
What a powerful scene after all this time...I miss Bobbi and the Tony character was certainly wasted..Bobbi has many ties and family..bring her back!!
I think he had one of the best exits/death scenes. I remember watching this, even though he wasn't one of my favorite characters, I still remember crying when I watched this.
omg. this scene is sooo sad. CRYING RIGHT NOW. i think i would have to hurt someone if right after something like that happend the doctor just walked in with the antidote.
yea, i'd look straight at the doctor with a very mean look on my face and with a sarcastic tone in my voice i'd say " sorry kevorkian, but you're just a little too late".
I missed this entire virus s/l, but whenever i catch clips of tony dying, it irks me to no end that his own flesh and blood nieces, Maxie and Georgie, did not even have a chance to say goodbye to their Uncle Tony! Or did I miss a scene somewhere? GH writers! What are you thinking???
The virus storyline also took the life of Courtney Jacks, who had heart wrenchingly just gave birth to Spencer Cassadine(but was raised by Jax and Carly the first few months) Another tearjerker but great story.
I missed Tonys death, havent watched the show regularly in years, ever since they frigged up Frisco and Felicia, my favorite characters. But god, Brad was wonderful, in every scene I saw him in but this had me bawling from the word go.
Frisco and Felicia were my favorites long ago too but the writers turned the two of them into such assholes. Not being there when their family needed them. Even Luke's turned into such a hapless jackass!
I agree! I LOVED, and to this day, still love, Frisco & Felicia! They were the couple! I hate how they are not absentee, bad parents! $#%&@ GH Writers, you disappoint me! Ruining one of the best couples of Daytime! *sigh*
It was fitting that he saw BJ at the end. Tony never really rebounded from BJ's death. There's that scene in 98 where he admits this (to Tammy). I didn't like how the writers wrote Tony into a corner so that it seemed like he could never really redeem himself. To me Tony is the ultimate family man on the show. When he was with BJ or Lucas or Maxie or Georgie, he was great. How I hate GH for mothballing their vets and the only time they bring them back out is to kill them off. :(
Oh my, I hadn't a clue they killed off Tony. I'm an on and off GH viewer...missed this. Brad Maule was one of the best actors they had. I just get so tired of the SONNY show, that I usually quit watching when it's constantly revolving around him and stone face. The whole BJ, Maxie story was the best, most well acted story in soap history IMO. Anyone know if Laura's return will be long-term or is it just another short stint again?
This scene is hard for me to watch. The writer's at General Hospital should be ashamed of themselves for writing him off. I run Brad's fan club and have know him for 23 years and he is an amazing actor and a wonderful person!
Such a wonderful actor! I was sad about him leaving the show. I can still feel the emotions I felt back then, when I saw the original episode of this.
Back in 1987 there was a storyline called the MOX-36 hostage crisis where a DVX agent took part of the hospital staff hostage in the cafeteria, the agent managed to scracth bobbie with a needle covered in the MOX-36 formula. Although Bobbie almost lost her life, but a scientist named Gretta Ingstrom provided her untested antidote to Bobbie and saved her life, she was paralyzed but recovered. Tony was with her at the time and watching this clip reminds me of that 1987 storyline.
I just wanted those that are true die hard fans of GH, i am in process of making a 80s GH Myspace page, I want to make it fun with all the old charcters, if anyone WANTS TO KNOW MORE ABOUT IT PLEASE MESSAGE ME AT Lesli2. thank you so much, and long live GH!
There was some sort of virus/epidemic at the hospital, of course there was limited antidote and the powers-that-be had to decide who would receive it. Tony was one of the "unlucky" ones! It was certainly a tear-jerker, especially when he is ready to die and sees his daughter BJ (who died years earlier) Hope this helps you "catch up"
i ball my eyes out every time that i watch this..... adn i keep on watching i over and over againcuz it is just like so sad this is one of th saddest deaths.... wwell the most emotianal death so far on gh
I never saw this before now. OMG, I've got tears pouring down my face at this. Brad Maule was so great in this role. I think we could see the goodness in Tony even when they tried to turn him bad because the fans knew it was from all the grief in his life and not because he was truly evil.
It is... he is one of my Film Professors... :) he is amazing but if you ask him he will say that he is not all that he was just able to make a living off of it... :)
Thank-you so much for posting this. I missed this episode. When he said he saw BJ, I got the chills. Where's a tissue when you need one. The acting was the best.
I still bawl my eyes out watching this scene. Despite how the writers tried to make us hate Tony all I could see was the good guy he was...and it was awesome of them to mention BJ and have him talk to lucas about being gay and stuff. That was Beautiful.
"near tears"? The tears were genuinely, copiously pouring down my cheeks. That's a rarity for me, normally soaps are lucky to get me teary-eyed. That was an amazing scene!!:)
another sad clip.

IT amazes me that the best scenes from last year came from our back burnered vets. Yet the idiots in charge keep ignoring them or killing them.
Enough of no talent hacks like Natalia Livingston and Kelly Monaco! No more mob wars! Give us back the DRAMA of daytime!
