Truth be told Petrucci's solo isnt so hard, its fast but its easy to comprehend. The tricky part (as usual) is not the solo if not the riff he plays before the solo, the weird time he does it in is pretty annoying.
@JJKhng Wish I could T-T I have a sucky camera, but take my word for it, the song is simple it just has a part that has a hard time sig. thats usually the case in most DT song, like in Take the Time or in Dance of Eternity.
@brianbf1986 Wow. There is no autotune there. It would be nice if you had at least SOME knowledge of sound production before coming on here with your accusations. Do you honestly believe they would autotune him for one word? I'm sorry but that's just stupid.
@123454321qcat Of course it's not on just one word, it's just that at some moments auto tune is much more noticeable and the few I pointed out are those times. Autotune is used on everyone, even great musicians these days live and in the studio. It's a sad and an unfortunate fact. Hearing it from a band like Dream Theater really hurts as a big fan. I have a degree in music production, so yes, I do know a thing or two about sound production, which I don't need to prove to you.
@brianbf1986 The thing is, he's out of tune in a number of spots. In order to autotune it they would have to know in advance if he was going to be out of tune. Either that, or have it on the entire time. However, we know that isn't the case because of the slight intonation issues throughout the performance. So either the tech crew randomly turned the autotuner on and off, they're psychic, or you're talking out your ass and don't actually know what you're talking about. I'm guessing it's number 3
@123454321qcat Effects like autotune can easily be turned on and off and faded in for saturation amount in real time during a live performance. If you've been in the studio, you should know what I mean. Their techs probably have plenty of experience and are good at what they do, that's whey the get paid. All in all, I can't 100% say there is auto tune, I wasn't there. At those moments, it truly sounds like it. It is surely used on them in the studio.
@123454321qcat I'm not the only who thinks this. I came to this video through a forum that I found when searching for auto tune on Dream Theater. Search "dream theater auto tune" in Google, it should be the first result and the first post at the top of the page.
@123454321qcat If you can't hear what I heard, what else is there for me to prove to you? We disagree and leave it at that. I wasn't there, so no, I don't have any more evidence. I did explain myself about how effects can be turned on and off and added in slowly and unnoticed. As for your ad populum fallacy, I was simply stating a fact on how I arrived here and yes, I listened critically with my own ear.
@brianbf1986 Yes, but you never explained how they would know when to turn the effects on and off. You also never explained why James is still out of tune in a number of spots. Without that, your argument is debunked. And by the way, when you start a comment with "I'm not the only one who thinks this", yes, it's ad populum. You're entitled to an opinion. But don't spew it in the comment section as fact unless you have something concrete to back it up, not just what you claim to know you heard.
@brianbf1986 Hmm. It never linked me to your comment from 21 hours ago. Let me respond to that now.
I don't care how experienced the techs are. No amount of experience gives you the ability to know in advance that a note is going to be out of tune. I never said autotune couldn't be turned on and off. I don't know why you're stating that like a rebuttal. As for them using it in studio, I don't believe that's the case. Post-production pitch correction, on the other hand, is very common.
@123454321qcat For all we know, it could have been in post. This was definitely not a normal concert with all the camera angles and such. There had to been at least a camera crane or two, a few cameras mounted in addition to a few camera guys running around. You can even seem them in some shots. The crane shots are obvious too.
@123454321qcat After all, the sound is quite polished as it is. Dream Theater is a group of a very talented musicians, of which many can't hold a candle to, but even considering that there are a numerous amount of extra noise happening in a live performance. To get it as well sounding as it is heard here, is virtually impossible w/o some editing. Everything is so crisp and leveled so well. It could have been live ,but from your point of view, things can't be done that much in real time (live).
@brianbf1986 Well obviously it was mic'd, meaning the levels and EQ could've been adjusted, etc. The pitches could've even been corrected. But that isn't the same as autotune. If they did do some pitch correction in post, they did a REALLY crappy job, as James is at least slightly out of tune on most of the notes, as any live singer without technical help would be. And if they thought it would be a good idea to randomly try and autotune during the performance, they're even bigger morons.
I want this concert NOW. This is the best quality since SCORE, but i cannot find any torrent, or similar on the internet. Please help, if you know where to find this, tell me.
Another guitarist?!? You mean someone who plays electric guitar?!? Someone who plays guitar on stage with petrucci!?! I don't believe that "this dude" would stay alive a concert...
@gilad571 There are these contraptions that came out not too long ago. Almost like magic, they process your previously worn clothes and render them usable again. I think they're called washing machines. These guys look economically stable enough to afford at least one.
So, there IS a solution to the hundreds of shirts, pants, and undies out in your garbage bin. :D
You can really feel by the way DT plays that the "Big TalK" must have been going on at this time. They don't interact with eachother or i should say with Mike.Really strange thing!
Very good sound and very good lyrics! I'm anxious to hear the next album, even with Mike Portnoy no longer doing the band. Dream Theater is a group of five people, not a single person. So I think the next album will be as good as the previous ones.
@thefoosa72 Black Clouds & Silver Linings is the one of album you like or hate.Much people think that is the worst DT album but I like them.I like Wither, A Rite of passage, A Nighmatare to Remember and Count of Tuscany, all of them are great but I like Wither because it's is power ballad with lot emotions and great solo...
@valsimot95 But I also hate the idea of Dream Theater playing power ballads. They're so talented and they could have made such a better song than that. and I dislike the solo too.
@thefoosa72 Really?I like it but this is just my opinion. Then you don't like Surrounded and songs like that?I like DT because they know to play different kind of songs
@thefoosa72 Well I fundamentally disagree. It has an amazing and consise guitar solo, very strong vocal melodies sung awesomely, and the synth parts rudess do just add a real sense of atmosphere and power at the right moments. But each to their own I guess!
@shakalamon but musically. It is the cheesiest song I've ever heard. Not to mention lyrically. It's just not DT. Maybe if it was someone else it wouldn't be terrible but Dream Theater? Dream Theater is way better than that.
@thefoosa72 well I guess were just at odds on that one! I think its a great peice of DT, and a really fine song, but we shall just have to agree to disagree :P I dont even think its too cheesy but hey, talkin of cheesy though, if thats really the worst youve heard, you need to play some power metal haha, none of DT would even register on a true cheesy scale!
@thefoosa72 Ahh fairplay, well we might differ on our taste in songs, but you've got a good taste in bands. Ive seen all of them live except scale the summit, havent heard any of them, any good? Im into good old prog rock too, seeing rush twice this year.
@shakalamon I saw Scale the Summit on their latest tour. They were amazing. It was one of the best overall performances I've ever seen. I saw Rush last summer and it was amazing. But Scale the Summit is going to be huge in the next 10 years. Check out their new album "The Collective". Just as good as anything Dream Theater has ever written.
@thefoosa72 Ok cool, ill check them out then, thats quite the claim! If you havent heard any Pain of Salvation, you need to, they are awesome beyond belief.
@jikarpert an earlier post suggested James LaBrie was using it on his vocals, its pitch correction that fixes the notes you sing if they are sharp or flat. Basically its cheating, but most artists will use it in the studio thats fine. Using it live is not good, but i dont hear it in the video
Dream Gods Theater, unfortunately Mike will take some rest but i'm sure that's only a matter of time cause DT is like a son for him! But now what makes me feel very very happy is James Labrie with his growl back, i saw them here in Rio de Janeiro(Brazil)and James was wonderful, amazing voice and presence on stage!Go ahead Dream Theater millions of fans keeps their hearts and souls with you!

@thefoosa72 wither is epic! as are surrounded anna lee and dissappear

@shakalamon yeah but those songs don't suck and they aren't extremely boring. Wither has nothing to it.
thefoosa72 11 months ago
@thefoosa72 Well I fundamentally disagree. It has an amazing and consise guitar solo, very strong vocal melodies sung awesomely, and the synth parts rudess do just add a real sense of atmosphere and power at the right moments. But each to their own I guess!
shakalamon 11 months ago
@shakalamon but musically. It is the cheesiest song I've ever heard. Not to mention lyrically. It's just not DT. Maybe if it was someone else it wouldn't be terrible but Dream Theater? Dream Theater is way better than that.
thefoosa72 11 months ago
@thefoosa72 well I guess were just at odds on that one! I think its a great peice of DT, and a really fine song, but we shall just have to agree to disagree :P I dont even think its too cheesy but hey, talkin of cheesy though, if thats really the worst youve heard, you need to play some power metal haha, none of DT would even register on a true cheesy scale!
shakalamon 11 months ago
@shakalamon yeah that's why I stay away from power ballads and listen to mainly prog rock like DT, PT, Scale the Summit, Transatlantic and so on.
thefoosa72 11 months ago
@thefoosa72 Ahh fairplay, well we might differ on our taste in songs, but you've got a good taste in bands. Ive seen all of them live except scale the summit, havent heard any of them, any good? Im into good old prog rock too, seeing rush twice this year.
shakalamon 11 months ago
@shakalamon I saw Scale the Summit on their latest tour. They were amazing. It was one of the best overall performances I've ever seen. I saw Rush last summer and it was amazing. But Scale the Summit is going to be huge in the next 10 years. Check out their new album "The Collective". Just as good as anything Dream Theater has ever written.

@thefoosa72 Ok cool, ill check them out then, thats quite the claim! If you havent heard any Pain of Salvation, you need to, they are awesome beyond belief.

i think john is using the axe fx at this point - sounds good! and i dont hear any autotune at 4.04 wtf??
7stringjim 1 year ago
@7stringjim sorry but wath is a autotune ?? :)
jikarpert 1 year ago
@jikarpert an earlier post suggested James LaBrie was using it on his vocals, its pitch correction that fixes the notes you sing if they are sharp or flat. Basically its cheating, but most artists will use it in the studio thats fine. Using it live is not good, but i dont hear it in the video

This one is going to be released on a Live DVD

It's unfortunate that autotune was used on the vocals- see 4:04

@guitarbrad777 No, it isn't. James never uses it live. Check his statement on his forum.

@guitarbrad777 James LaBrie said that on his forum. He never uses auto-tune live. Except, studio recordings.
