I have one of these. It was the worst thing I ever bought. Anyone who spends just 15 minutes with the i-drive system would be be absolutely pulling their hair out with frustration. Don't wate your time. Buy something else. 5-Series - over priced and over rated.

only thing wrong with this car in terms of its looks..... is sadly - the steering wheel. best steering wheel were early 2000's e46, e39...... its too bulky like the dodge steering wheel on the chargers/challengers/ram

i like this car alot and its features and another think i like about it was the first aid kit in the back i think this is the first time that i ever seen a car with something like that being installed in thats how you can tell bmw cares about safety... one other thing though as a tip i dont think its wise to make videos showing your plates you know how we have alot of crazy people in the world....just a lil heads up...but overall awsome care..cant wait til i save up money to get mines

and unlike the 535i, the 550i can't be tuned as easily and as much due to it's naturally aspirated engine. and have Juice Box'd it and is just as fast as an M5 up till around 95-100 mph...but what more can I ask of my 6 cylinder baby?? 535 for the mofo'in win.

BMW 535i is a better buy and better car. 550 vs 535. The 535i is $10k cheaper than the 550i. It gets much better mileage because of the 6 cylinder vs. 8. It has a twin turbo'd 6 so it is just as fast, if not faster than the 550 because of the weight and power ratios...the 300hp 535i drives more like a 350hp car...I have a 535i,

Nice car, but WAY overpriced. If you are going to spend 70k on this, why not just buy a used M5 with 15,000 miles on it, with 140 more hp and the V10, for the same price as a 550? Not that I'm arguing that the Pontiac G8 V8 is a better car, because it's not, but that car has the same amount of hp (360), and is faster 0-60 than the 550, and it is a mind boggling 38,000 dollars cheaper.

I own this exact car. Color, rims and all. I've drove them all before I bought this one and there is no comparison. BMW is sport with large doses of luxury and MB is luxury with small doses of sport. They are both great cars.

If you don't want to spend $80k on a new 550i, it's WAY cheaper to go to Germany and get it there, even with travel costs and paying for shipping to take the car to the US.

When shipped overseas out from Germany you lose your manufacturer warranty. Had your same thought for some time... but my opinion is that it's not worth the risk.

the 0-60 times are so far off everywhere. it's more like 5 flat. If you ever driven this and the 535xi the comparison is a joke. Yes the 535xi is a twin turbo but, the 0-60 times aren't as close as BMW states. I'd say a 5.6 for 535 and a 5.0 for the 550i. Love the feeling of the torque you don't get that in the 535xi. The difference between the 550i & the m5 is less then the difference between the 535xi and the 550i. although you wll know the difference between m5 & 550. M5 is the 550i mastered.

In the uk this car would cost us around $90,000 to $100,000 just because we get totally ripped off!

And we pay $10 for a gallon of petrol/gas.

20mpg is not really an option for us.

We drive smaller engine cars generally doing 50mpg.

Thinking of ordering an '09 550 with a six-speed manual. I know BMW doesn't sell many of the V8 5 Series in the USA with a stick and wonder if it might be my last chance to get one before the new model (F10) comes in. That car may not offer a manual because the next 3 Series (F30) will be a bigger vehicle and so would fill the particular market niche.

Changes for 09, if any, would be absolutely minimal. BMW just refreshed this car for 08 and it's their standard program to keep to a single revision in the life of a model. There might be a color change, but that's it.

they usually only do one model update during a series of production and this one had its change already. there is a fair difference from the 07 to 08 models. personally i think the best color for the 550i is carbon black metallic. this color is ONLY on the 550i it was previously on the E46 M3. Amazing color must be seen in person

Not sure which one he's referring to when talked about the Lexus hybrid. I'm guessing he's talking about the GS 460h. I'm not sure its small trunk has to do with it being a hybrid. I think it's more to do with the design because ALL GS's have small trunk.

I think it is a matter of preference. German cars have a different feel, but I used to own a GS400 and it was fast, but not as SOLID, yet smoother. Now I drive the Infiniti and a big difference in tightness, closer to the BMW, quick as hell with 306hp, and very reasonably priced. I beat a new mustang the other day, but cannot hang with the 550!

The thing about Mercedes is that it is boring to drive. A Mercedes is about getting from A to B in comfort while BMW is about the driving experience. I guess you could say a Mercedes is soft and comfortable while a BMW is exciting and sporty. Kinda like the difference between a Rolls Royce and a Ferrari, both high end luxury cars but in very different ways.
