  • Clearly something that would have taken a good deal of work to make, only things I have to pick on are you used too many Clan 'Mechs for both sides, the acting and voice work was a little cheesy (as expected for this kinda thing though), and you gave the defenders what I would call "Spartan-syndrome", aka overpowered ;) Not bad work though, just wish there was a way to persuade some big filmmakers to make a big-budget gritty MechWarrior/BattleTech movie.

  • @Kerenskyz15 Thank you for the comments. Indeed Spartan-syndrome is a good diagnosis haha. It took me about 9 months to model, texture, animated and edit everything together, but it was a fun time. Having a big budget film would be sweet, as long as they didn't find a way to screw it up, like most awesome sci-fi franchises.

  • Only real gripe i have is that the PPCs shoot "man-made" lightning, not lightning balls. Otherwise, you did a fair amount of justice to the series.

  • @Siolfor80 Thanks for watching and the comment. I also agree, if I had more time when I made this I would have made the PPC's way cooler.

  • that atlas got Parkinson xD

  • wow these guys just copy the trailer from MechCommander

  • This is not bad, the acting is a touch hammy but that makes it funny. But that battle was devastating for the defenders it take months to get there mechs in working order even with the clan salvage.

  • Need more work on the physics and feeling of weight, But nice for a student jobby. Keep at it.

  • Not babd animation.

  • 1:53 Atlas is so scared he's shaking.

  • your telling me a PUMA almost took down an ATLAS single handed?

Also where else have i seen a kodiak squish a vulture?

    Nice work :D

  • @orkkilla5589 Actually, That was a Daishi. I thought it was a PUMA at first too, but his site says otherwise. It's just scaled down, pretty much. Lol.

  • it's a good attempt! Your 3d models are definitely spot on.

    tips:

1.) improve the texturing (should look grittier and more realistic)

2.) improve the lighting (the lighting looks very artificial)

3.) while the mechs are animated decently enough, it could still be made more realistic. (light mechs like the Uziel and Raven move very fast, add recoil to firing mechs, impact hits bowl lighter mechs over).

    4.) improve the acting

with skills like yours, I'll bet you'll reach far with improvement :)

  • 4:38 = DFA! DFA!

Nice little tribute to MW:GBL there.

  • I cannot tell who to root for, the 'enemy' I think is supposed to be clan, from their unit composition (althought they do have IS models within their ranks), and the 'good guys' have clan tech...I root for whoever is supposed to be the clans, Clan Smoke Jaguar FOREVER!!!

  • My issue with this is I cannot tell who to root for, the 'enemy' use a mix of Clan and IS models and the 'good guys' use clan tech and IS tech...Clan Smoke Jaguar FOREVER!

  • this is very well done

  • well done...

  • overall very good but one minor technical issue. Jumpjets are run through pedals.

  • @TheJhouston ah, I guess I didn't know that. Thank you for watching and the clarification.

  • I have to say its a fail but it is very good for a... kid, and here is a tip make sure you put in tactics in the movie it makes it seem like yall know what yall are doing and will help with the animation make it seem more real but otherwise it wasn't half bad

  • Epic video man!

  • So this is all done just by using computer graphics

  • @Fenexs Yeah, I modeled and animated the mechs using 3D Studio Max 7. For Live-action we built a styro-foam cockpit with green screen backdrop to add in animation to background.

  • Im sorry but i laughed so hard when the guy yelled i gotta eject

  • @Fenexs haha, I'm glad you got a laugh, he wanted it to be a bit over the top.

  • There are some issues with the film as a whole, but it's a student work. I'm not going to complain much. What I will say is that the 'Mechs were designed right. I can see what is what, and recognize them just as I would a mini. Well done, bro.

  • @JKorent same i also recognized the mechs at first sight and i also liked the part were u can make out the word DIE!!! on the tip of the Raven's nose

  • Kodiak belonged to clan ghost bear and that is an example of a good clan mech

  • I could take a shadow cat with a raven

  • And I have to add, I like that soundtrack, it is simply some of the best for movies...

  • Yeah boys & girls, that was not bad, at least ten times more believable than that movie I just saw where that Groundpunder took down a Maddog (Vulture) on its own, singlehanded!!! I almost drop from my chair of laughing

  • @ankmorpokh Thanks for the comments, it was a lot of fun to make.

  • Okay plz don't flame me for this, I'm just trying to provide a bit of constructive criticism. On the whole, the video was pretty good, but the voice acting does have room for improvement.

  • @SentinelPhoenix oh no problem, thanks for the comments. It was just my friends and I in it, so we're no pros haha.

  • Ahh, The Atlas. Mechwarrior shorthand for asskicking. :-D

  • This is actually quite good. I think you have some real talent here when it comes to 3D Animation, just add a little more realism imto it,like signs that a mech is worn out and such. But other then that this is actually a nice experience and i love the color of the Atlas.

    BLUE DEATH FOR ALL!

  • lol not bad for beguinners :)

  • @Amurael27 thanks, it was a lot of fun, wish I had more time to work on a new one and try to polish things.

  • @ctrick13 you know you have the support of the mechwarrior community ;)

  • I love how certain mechs appearances resemble the characterization of their pilots. It "made sense" that a small skinny "kid sister" piloted a small skinny Mech. LOL. good job guys

  • You know,of all the game adaptions to movies we are getting,im surprised no body has thought of doing mechwarrior/battletech.

  • The Uziel should have lived, and the Dire Wolf shoulda been harder to kill.

  • Not to good, Not to bad. As has been said, sounds were cheesy, clanners were WAAY to weak, and your PPC's looked like balls of water. Mech's don't generally have flaps covering the missile racks. Your animations for them need a little work.

The Good? Well, for complex models, you did an EXELENT job at modeling them, the weapon fire was spot on, barring the PPC's, and you had decent comedy.Used proper mechs, had relativly decent voice acting. And hell, it's better than what most of us could do!

  • Assault: Daishi / Victor

    Heavy: Thor

    Medium: Hellhound

    Light: Cougar

These choices assume customization is an option...I usually go for low-medium speed and maneuverability with massive, mainly ballistic weaponry, or go another route and turn the speed dial waaaay up and slap on some quick-firing short to medium range lasers, machine guns and streak missiles...other favorites include rotary autocannon, flamers and big banks of inner sphere medium range missiles.

  • @Lastman0nEarth sounds like u have everything planned out

  • funny but not tht realistic

  • brilliant vid but i yhink that u shud make more lol an use "new divide" by inkin park as the snd track

  • Poor, poor hellbringers... even in the fan made movies they always die.... T_T

  • Still, good animation in general. I hope this helps ;D

  • mechcommander intro. Smoke will help immensely.

One soundtrack ain't gonna cut it. I suggest getting soundtracks from the game itself. It makes more familiarity.

Forgot to add this, the cockpit lights are too bright white. They usually do not have lights on that bright. That's asking for a missile to ur face.

  • The video could be improved a lot more.

Mechs feel too slow and stiff. Raven need to RUN!!!

Clan mechs was like so weak when it was generally the other way around. I don't recall flaps protecting the missile launchers on the mechs, they take too much time.

Voice acting can seriously be improved. More emotion, more stress

Cockpit can be improved with use of flashing lights and actually sweating. A mech can get real hot. Ejecting part can be made more real with the type of light in the ___

  • pretty damn awesome

  • that was awsome but your audio is off by about haf a second and your acting was funny im not trying to be a dick but your acting sucked accept for the guy who totaly crushed the fuck out of the last mech he was awsome

  • Wow, nice video, pretty funny acting i got to say...

  • Realy Nice Work ^^ Best Ultra Heavy Mec THE ATLAS ;)

I Love the Loki its the best Heavy Mec i think. Or the Old Orion Mec. Medium Mec its the Usirel or Shadow Cat Light Mec mhh Puma or Cougar

  • SO you are not a fan of the Dire Wolf at all?

  • Umm... I'll just say here's my list:

Assault: Dire Wolf / Annihilator (Wolf's Dragopons version) / Kodiak

    Heavy: Hellbringer / Marauder

    Medium: Shadow Cat

    Light: Puma

Always depends on the pilot though. The Atlas sure is a beast, but the standard version (according to TROs) is just not armed well enough for 100 tons. Sure later after the clans invaded it got better, but still it's no match for clan mechs of equal ton or class in most cases.

  • that's a good list you've got there.

    My choices are

    Assault: Atlas / Dire Wolf

Heavy: Timber Wolf / Mad Dog

    Medium: Bushwacker

    Light: Cougar

I generally do pretty well with a Timberwolf, despite it's easy to hit cockpit, I generally use it because I can fit a lot of LRMs, ER beam lasers and occasionally a gauss rifle or two onto it, making it a perfect sniper and artillery mech, which is what I dig. ;P

  • I prefer the Hellbringer over the Timberwolf for the following reasons: It's faster, has ECM and BAP, the refire-rate of its weapons allow constant firing, no overheating issues, difficult to hit cockpit.

Of course this is due to the fact that I prefer short range combat over sniping so a pair of big ACs and SSRMs are simply my ideal armament.

Also the Hellbringer is just so versatile. There are configurations for about every job from anti infantry to sniping, ergo always a good choice.

  • fair enough. The hellbringer is an excellent mech, but I'm clearly more of a sit back and blast away kind of gamer, hence my choices of Timberwolf and Mad Dog.

I regularly use the Mad Dog because of it's excellent missile storage and it's ability for some real manuverability if you know how to pilot it. I can always manage to outflank opponents and hit them from behind with twin heavy beam lasers and a HUGE salvo of SRMs, it usually gets to job done ;P

  • nice work on it ;)

  • dude awesome work!!

  • Sandman was in a Loki ^_^

I especially like the dude piloting the Kodiak; reminds me of me when I'm playing Mercs.

  • what was the mech that sandman dude was using? a loki or somethin?

  • Thor

  • Your CPP r strange

  • the PPC's? yeah, I would do them different next time as well.

  • @ctrick13 They're the MW2 style, right?

  • @OHeadincloudsO That's how the MW2 PPC looked. I don't know how they're supposed to look in-universe according to Battletech, though...

  • Of all the bad videos I've seen in my time, this takes the place as number one on my favourites. 5 stars!

  • i'm glad you enjoyed it

  • It's corniness is what makes it great in my opinion

  • Great work!

    93!

  • Student project or no, it's a helluva lot better crafted than the MechCommander intro.

"I'll help the lil' guy out" - AWESOME!!! LOL (I need Zach as a lancemate)

    thanX fur sharin Corey

  • Well put together. You guys are awesome. You guys did great. Granted, it was a little bit cheesy, but regardless, I loved it!

    "Gotta EJECT!" LOL!

  • I have about 101 different issues with this.. poor acting are among them... but taking into consideration that this is a film put together by students (I'd love to know what the exact class was..just too lazy too look it up lol ) and the difficulty in doing a project like this from scratch (or else more people would be doing it) I must say fantastic job. Cheesy or not I still enjoyed it.

  • Thanks for the comments, the actors were my college roommates and a few friends. All the 3D work was done by me, except the buildings were from MWLL when I helped on that project. It was a bit cheesy, but we expected it to be so we ran with it, glad you still enjoyed it. Makes the 10 months of production worth it.

  • Gotta EJECT!!!!

    That made me laugh...

  • "Someone get me a stick!" another classic line

  • HA HA funny

  • Cheesy acting but that made it all the more fun. This is a super project, well done to everyone involved !

    (Huzzah for the Kodiak).

  • @nubbtard HAHAHAHA. Well-done. Yeah, the cheese did actually add to it. But it was really quite enjoyable. Hope you guys got a good grade on the project.

  • I liked the whole Vulture versus Raven thing. Bird vs. bird. :) I LOVED your movie. I hope you'll get the opportunity to make more. However, the acting was sort of bad. Kinda cheesy.

  • great movie, the only thing that bugs me is that while O Fortuna was a good choice for this, I think if you used tracks from Mechwarrior 2 instead it would have been better( I know of a site where you can download the whole soundtrack for free)

  • yeah, that would be pretty cool. You should PM me the links. Thank you.

  • although the live action was a little awkward (no offense) this was one the more impressive videos. kudos guys! :D

  • Fuck the inersphere. CLANS FTW

  • oh yuck i stepped in some clanner

  • hahaha!! yea! I that clanner didnt know what hit em!

  • 4:38 kodiak stomp

  • Very nice 3D animation, hope you make more! :)

  • Wow that was pretty good =) Nice work. What was the modeler you used? I'm learning how to model with lightwave 3d =) Again, nice work.

  • I used 3D Studio max, thanks for the comments.

  • That's the MW2 GBL opening the Kodiak squishes the Mad Dog 4:36

  • Yeah, another person pointed it out to me in an earlier comment. I've always loved the Kodiak since that game, never dawned on me the same sequence until that person posted. I justed wanted the Kodiak DFA'ing something.

  • I GOTTA EJECT. lol bad acting

  • haha yeah, just my friends and I having some fun. Glad it made you laugh.

  • not the worst somone could of done, i found the models ok, the cockpits felt pretty good and the extra mile to actualy put scenes of the cockpits were ok, i think the weaponry affect could of been a little better, and one confusion was were you fighting a clan force? cause if so why did they use catapults, or was it just a well armed innersphere unit that had captured alot of clan mechs? but other hten that it was ok, the little MC referance with "well i got his attention" was kinda corny

  • Those looked more like madcat mechs, or Timber wolf variants rather than catapults, truth be told I did not see one catapult mech chassis in that whole F.M.V.

  • My bad KenshiUchiha, I seen some catapults near the end, so I stand corrected.

  • it is ok i think the lack of arms would of been the dead give away but i u nderstand the mix, the mad cat did get its innersphere name for being a combination of the MarauDer and the CATapult

  • very nice

  • next time add more SPEED, that raven should have had an AMS to combat those missles, and you should have had it so they would use their speed to their advantage, also nice MW2 era PPC but stick with the new era PPC's they look cooler.

also wheres the GAUSS rifle for that Atlas and LBX for the Kodi that would have been cool to see

  • What the DFA for the finish wasnt cool enough?

  • The atlas could be a level 1'r with an AC 20.

  • The animations were very nice, but the story was a bit confusing due to the mix of machines (Clan and IS on both sides) and the very different camouflages in my opinion, but all in one, GOOD WORK!!!

  • Nice MW2 era PPCS!

  • what kind of generator did you use? (the animations)

  • Um... not quite sure I understand the question... But, the program used was 3Ds Max, default scanline renderer, and I used IK bones to rig the mechs. Hope that answers your questions.

  • xD words I don't understand lol... Basicly I was asking what you used to make the mechs, buildings, etc. actully appear ^^; hope that makes it clearer

  • haha, no problem. That would be a 3D modeling program called 3D Studio Max. In the program you basically start with primitive shapes (squares, circles) and edit them until you get your model. After creating your animation you do what is called rendering to get your final image/movie. Sorry a little long-winded, but figured I'd explain the basic process as well.

  • ^^ cool, and thnks for the process ^^; it gives me an idea now for my future movies...

  • Just out of curiosity did the actors each pick their favorite mechs?

  • yeah, that's exactly what they did. Some of them were not very familiar with the Mech universe, so I had a selection for them to choose from. They also got to choose their color scheme/camo. That is why everyone is different. I just standardized the enemy color scheme.

  • What is the name of the song in this and where can I find it?

  • Im getting a feel that this is merc against merc here lol

a bunch of rag-tag multicolored mechs duking it out.

  • Wrong music for it, but I did like the video!

    Well done!

  • i couldn't tell who was fighting who/what teams their on and those are some of the calmest mech warriors ever...

    ...probably

  • well the multicolored dudes were the good guys and the red dudes were the bad guys

but there was one red good guy so yeah

  • That was very impressive. You even managed to get the live action bits to be somewhat convincing. Considering what you were working with, that's pretty impressive.

The animations are a bit sluggish, but it's hard to capture the speed and ferocity of mech combat unless you're playing the game, or you have actual game footage. Considering you did all of this without the aid of the actual game, that's really darn impressive. Grade A work here.

  • I would agree.

  • Nice one dude, pretty well coordinated, you do need to register one thing about this video... wha faction do you belong in, your enemy? and maybe some of the pilot info and data about their history or skills chats etc... but overall Nice work

  • no faction sorry, just wanted to leave things pretty anonymous so I didn't have any standards to go by. I just wanted to makea video with some of my favorite mechs with no strings attached, atleast for this one. thanks for the comments though.

  • Wow, really great work - that was impressive, and the live action was a perfect touch. I'd love to see the sequel!

Was it my imagination, or did I hear the callsigns "Crono" and "Sandman"? Would they bear any association to the NBT/ADL veterans of MW2 Mercs?

  • thank you for comments, have to see about a sequel... i think i would just start with a new story and see where that goes. As for callsigns, they are at the end of film, one is Sandman, Crono is not. The actors chose them, but I'm the only mech games player out of them, sorry.

  • Wow.... the amount of time you must have put into that is astounding. Though the speeds arent completely correct, you desserve A+

  • thank you for comment, I started modeling in February and finished the animation in late November. It was quite the personal undertaking but enjoyable. Glad you liked it.

  • This was great. I like the ending, do I deteck MW2 Ghostbears intro...?

  • I sense Mechcimmander MW3 and MW2 inspiration

  • The Atlas at 1:05 and 1:58 reminded me about that sad Mad Cat that got ganged on in the MW3 opening video (when Lance Leader in a Vulture/Mad Dog and Alan in an Atlas ganged up on him).

  • love the fact that someone actually is making halfway decent mech vids. hopefully next time its a bit better...but hey who cares atleast you made a mechwarrior video

  • Ok here it is, you have a serious amount of talent. I loved every bit and this may sound weird but it inspired me to ask you to make another master piece. You are awesome great they needed you on the MW team. plz reply to this

  • Wow, good job, that was pretty damn impressive. It must have been a bitch to get all of that animated. The real life sets were a very nice touch too. A discernible place in the battletech/mechwarrior universe would've been nice as it's an extremely well fluffed out universe. I know most of us just want to see mechs blow up, but a nod to us battletech fans would be greatly appreciated. Also, you probably could've squeezed some better acting out of your friends. Fantastic work overall.

  • Thank you for the comments, I will keep them in mind if I ever have time for future projects.

  • Since when did Clanners use Catapaults?

Unless the guys their shooting at AREN'T clanners... ah well its confusing

  • yeah, no they are not clanners, just an unnamed attacking force. the actors are all roommates or friends, and they got to choose their mech to pilot. for the attackers i just used some of my other favorites.

  • Well, Catapults were introduced at Mech2: Mercenaries. I would like to assume that they were Mercenaries, but whoever their affiliation was sworn to: No mention. And besides, this was made for fun, so I don't have the need to go through excessive details.

  • Mechwarrior 2 PPC effects, classy move.

  • haha yeah... there are always things to improve on, if not, where's the motivation to do another one? Thanks for the comments.

  • Well done! Keep at it.

  • That DFA reminded me of the opener for Ghost Bear Expansion pack.

  • Dang...vids like this are awesome, i would like to see some more live action movies like this.

  • that was fucking awrsome make some more :) please 5/5

  • That was excellent :D Lots of 'Mechs, plenty of shooting and some real people and props. Nice work :)

  • The Kodiak DFAing the Vulture is a direct throwback to the intro to Ghost Bear's Legacy. Was that intentional?

  • Ever since that intro the Kodiak has been one of my favorite mechs. I actually had not thought about that directly. I knew I wanted a DFA if I could get it to work though, but haha that is crazy, great catch. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the comments.

  • Dude, I actually quite enjoyed this. I loved the huge variety of 'Mechs, and the animation was cool. And you included a blue Atlas, too! (my signature 'Mech and color when I play MW). 5/5.

  • This is pretty sweet and the mechs all look awesome, 3 Cheers for the VUlture, totally awesome Mech

  • this is great work and hope to see more of these on you tube

  • I <3 Pony Boy.

    My favorite lines:

    "What'd I miss?"

    "...Someone get me a stick..."

  • I think the actors should have downed a few Rockstars before filming so they'd be a bit more lively.

  • Thanks all for the comments... the actors were my roomates, friends, and myself. We were used to being behind the camera rather than in front, good experience trying to direct people with nothing to act with but a prop and living room.

  • cool video i like it it was so cool

  • Mechwarrior: Desolation Student Film

  • That is pretty sweet lol, great animations

  • WELL DONE on animation BUT bad acting makes it funny

  • this is sooo bad.

  • Very Impressive indeed, worth the time you put in I hope you make more. Did you edit, build sets, etc all by yourself. Nice work on the cockpit and green/blue screen very creative.

  • yeah, almost everything in the film was done by me. the buildings were donated by some guys from MWLL team. My dad and sister helped build/paint the cockpit. I'll post a link in the description for the website I used to explain the production process.

  • Ctrick submit that to wizkids you could revive mechwarrior, no joke i'll tell the mechwarrior team at wizkids about this keep up the good work.

  • thanks I appreciate it, I had posted the link in their forums and talked to their MW Brand Manager if I needed permission on anything, but if you want to pass put in a word, go ahead, thanks.

  • hey your video was awesome. obviously all homemade projects don't have the financing of something bigger, but i'd say you did an awesome job with what you had. love the choice of mechs and the cockpit scenes. for me, having cockpit scenes is important in trying to show that the scene is more realistic. if not for them, it might look only like a video game. how old were you when you made this?

  • This was my college senior project, so 23. We had to make a capstone project for graduation, so I wanted to make an animation, even though my major does not focus on 3D Animation, I just enjoyed MW to much to pass on the opportunity. Thank you for the compliments... everyone, it has made the project well worth the time it took to complete.

  • Great job man, one of the coolest Mechwarrior vids ever.

  • it's not half a bad vid, the mechs looked pretty good, I wonder if you'll get added onto the new MW team >D

as for the acting, it needed work but not bad for amateurs

and not to hurt any feelings but...and I mean this from a creative prospective but, I think the mechs did a better job of acting ...

by which I only mean the way they moved and turned to search for enemies was more realistic, the voice acting was good though...in fact it would have looked nicer if you didn't put the cockpit scenes

  • Quite lovely to know that Clan Mechs surprisingly don't fire back much. They pretty much stand there waiting for PPC blasts. Take the Madcat vs. Thor. 'Cat should have wiped out the Thor with laser salvos, then a missile strike.

Funny how three mechs held out against 8++. Even I can't do that in Mech4, Difficult mode.

  • Nice, really good is the Kodiak jumping on the Vulture, really nice.

But you should make the Cockpit inside new for the next one, the Pilots are Lying not Sitting inside. :P but great job thanks man.

  • I like every part of it, even the part that has the pilots, even though that is the ending, I still like it. I love mechs because of their awesome canons. Thank you for putting this on the site. - Connor, age 5

  • sweet job. A+ 4 that

  • hot damn son! that is an amazing video! you deserve an A for it! my only comments are: A)It was hard to tell who was fighting who

and B) the actors needed a little bit more motivation, other than that, perfect absolutely perfect.

  • Lol great actor for the kodiak, lol "Mmm mmm yeah! Euh Some one get me a stick!"

  • cool, nice job.
