@lostend1 i was a marine so i dont have any training with torpedoes, but i'm pretty sure they lock onto targets by their sound pattern i dont know how it works, but thats how subs kill each other.

Ha Ha Ha, you all hail to mention the fact that the most potent anti-ship weapon in the world is the aircraft. Oh and the super captivating torpedoes were meant too be used with nuclear warheads. They cant hit moving targets because of the lack of directional control, and a carrier battle group has an effective combat umbrella of 2118 Kilometers. A bit out of reach for the Kirov, wouldn't you agree?

@lostend1 i was a marine so i dont have any training with torpedoes, but i'm pretty sure they lock onto targets by their sound pattern i dont know how it works, but thats how subs kill each other.

Supercaptivating Torpedoes were intended to be used against other nuclear submarines so they were equipped with nuclear warheads to reduce the threat of ICBM's. But when the Cold War ended the Russian government realized that the use of such torpedoes with conventional warheads was impractical because they were originally unguided. The third iteration has a controllable arc of +- 30 degrees but against a moving target or another submersible they are still impractical.

(For example: main anti-submarine-weapons which uses Ticonderoga is rocket launchers RUM-139 VL-Asroc range only 20 km)
So, Virginia does not have a chance for attack

i REALLY doubt it, a virginia class sub would have to get through 2 sonars, 10 torpedo/ASWmissile tubes, 3 ASW helicoptersand 4 ASW rocket launchers.
the US mk48 torpedo only has a range of 23 miles as opposed to the SSN16 with a maximum range of 76 miles
in addition, the us navy STILL does not have any supercavitating underwater supersonic torpedos, something i find completely rediculous especially with the ruskies on their third generation. even the bloody iranians have one!

Actualy nope - noisy was ONLy project 675 subs - designed in year 1958
Such designs as 971, 941, 949 are MOST quiet nuclear subs in the world - in line with 677 with air-independent propulsion - which USA simply has none
And it is not rusting in a dry docks - it is in regular patrol missions for last 8 years. As so as new subs such as 955 coming in service
