Obviously you guys have not or can not fly at night. I don't think the point of this was to get the exact scale lighting correct. He is doing it so he figure out the orientation of his heli at night.
Personally brother, you can never have too many lights. I think you have a great start.
If you're looking for inexpensive but great lighting solutions for r/c car, airplane or helicopters check out rclighthousedotcom..I use their stuff on my helicopters and they're great!!! (replace the "dot" with @ )
They have 3mm..5mm..and 10mm lights in all colors..steady or flashing plus holders, brackets, light pods, and light tubes. All lights have the resistors wired in and they will make custom lighting solutions for you at prices much cheaper than just about anyone out there!!!!!
All LEDs + resistors together need 0.4 ampere of the 6 volt line. Compared with the motor which can take up to 35 ampere max from the 12 volt line, the power consumption is not much.
The helicopter becomes a little bit heavier because of the extra wires and extra ferrite ring.
Hi m3lbourn, poor lad. he's just responding correctly and gives all #_relevant_# information. He's not explaning how the photone emission at the p/n-layer (GaAsP) in the LED is taking place? you could write a lot more. So, what do you mean...? :-)
These LEDs can be bought at a local electronic shop. I used the brighest LEDs with a 120 degree angle, so it's visible from most directions.
Use the right resistors to reduce voltage from the ESC/BEC to the LEDs, the people in the electronic shop could give some advise about which resistors are suitable.
You know, in Holland we have the red light district, with all the womans sitting behind the windows spreading there legs An all next the little red lights
I agree that the lights on the vertical stabilizer fin are a bit useless.
The other lights help a lot during twilight and clouds, during sunny days my new yellow canopy is bright enough to orientate.
In a couple of weeks I'll put up a nice flying movie, a co-worker offered to film with his new high-fps hd camera. I'm looking forward for the 60 fps slo-motion replay of heli flight :-)
These are very cheap, 0.20 - 0.30 euro per LED. I bought them in an electronic shop. Ask vendor for the brightest LEDs and suitable resistors for the voltage. Most of these LEDs shine in an 120 degrees angle.
I can only fly in the dark at close range, but don't feel comfortable with it. These lights shine well during the day and twilight, which really helps orientation.
I've disconnected them now, because all the wiring can pick up glitches. The leds are powered by the receiver.
The LEDs receive power from the receiver, I used an empty channel for that. That's the same power circuit as the servo's: 5 volt. Each LED has a resistor to to convert it to 1.8 volt (red light) or 3.8 volt (other colors).
The flashing LEDs flash all by themself, they have a tiny IC inside.
It's all very cheap from an electro shop +- 10 eurocent per led.

Doesn't that affect your battery life? I would just get the night main and tail blades. Looks pretty cool though.

That's a Christmas tree .....
itsracktime 3 years ago 2
does that all require extra battery power?
jujututu 3 years ago
Compared to the power consumption of the helicopter itself it's neglectable.
All together the lights use 400mAh. A 2100mAh 3C lipo can power it for 4 hours (considering that a lipo should not be discharged for 100%).
This T-Rex450 helicopter flies +- 8 minutes, so with these LEDs it's a couple of seconds shorter.
MiniaviationDotCom 3 years ago 5
o, also the thin cables, extra ferrite ring etc add some weight which reduces fly time. But overall it's not much.

Thanks,
those LEDs are connected to the ESC/BEC 5 volt line. Some resistors make it 3.8 volt, and 1.8 volt for the red lights.

The 'legs' of the LEDs are bend around the frame and landing skids, together with some glue and tape.

sorry for the amiture question, but I am so... what did you use to make the lights to stick on to the heli?

Very neat. You don't even see the wires towards the lights.
