  • This is my 2nd time watching the series through and what I've gathered from this scene and the scene where Marlo tells Chris and Snoop Omar is dead...in each scene Chris' faces are very expressive...almost as though it was intentional for him not to tell Marlo about Omar maybe cause he knew Marlo wasn't up to par with Omar

  • Marlo was the only nigga in Baltimore can disrespect Christ, LOL

  • marlo saying my name is my name is no different than omar saying "when u been in the game as long as me, u do it just off name"

  • i like how Omar(who's openly gay) gets more love in the hood and the hip hop community than Marlo haha as a matter of fact Omar is everybody's favorite character(even Obama). how interesting...

  • On the Streets reputation means everything...anyone can get paid on the streets n have some cash in they pocket but it takes a G to have a reputation and have his name ring bells on the street.

Probably why i get goose bumps whenever i see this scene..its some real shit.

  • All Marlo cared about what his reputation and in the end, that was crapped on by Omar and he was an unhappy person.

  • Damn! Marlo look like a velociraptor when he yell!

  • Comment removed

  • ultimately omar got the last laugh, even though kenard put a bullet through his dome. He got at marlo's reputation, which mattered most to him, told every nigga he thought he was a punk and not man enough to come down to the street. Omar dead but the legend live on. demonstrated in numerous scenes of the corner boys telling stories like how they thought it took 10 niggas with ak's to kill omar. marlo still alive but his rep is tarnished and he look like a bitch. "lotta heart for a cocksucker"

  • @TheDomini91

I couldn't have said it better. I may go out on a limb and even say that Marlo wouldn't have stepped to Omar in the streets even if he did get word. Omar was a specialist, stepping to him in the streets would be suicide or something.

  • @kaseskells If there's one thing Marlo cared about it's his reputation. Money wasn't even much of a concern for him. He's essentially like a much more ruthless version of Avon with no interest in the business side of things. He also doesn't come across as a coward, so if his name was at stake, I'm sure he would've (somehow) tried to get to Omar himself.

  • Marlo is proof that in order to be successful, you also have to be the coldest and most ruthless cat in the game...

  • Marlo never understood that what you can have done and what you do yourself are two different levels of respect in the streets. He could have a 100 ppl killed and he would be feared and respected but not like Omar who does his dirt hands on. Those cats knew you had to fear what Marlo might HAVE done to you. But you KNEW Omar was going to get you one on one and personal.

  • @MrTrill1970 That's not fair tho. Marlo is a boss. Of course he's not going to go out there and kill people himself, that's not how it works. It's not about the dirt he does, but how he does. Marlo in alot of people's minds does his dirty in a shady way, while Omar for the most part is stand up. That's teh difference.

  • @Antrizzle2009 I think we took two different paths to the same point bro. And your right about that but the problem is Marlo WANTS the same respect Omar got and like his gambling he ends up obsessed with the fear Omar inflicts on EVERYBODY so to try and get it he has Chris and Snoop kill for the smallest infractions(secruityguy, junebugetc) and he thought he had it until that convo in jail alas his rant. YO WHEN WE BOUNCE FROM THIS SHIT HERE YALL GO DOWN TO THEM CORNERS LET THEM MF'S KNOW!!!!!!!

  • @MrTrill1970 Good point. Like Jay-Z says "the streets is watching". People see that you're willing to kill Junebug or some security guard for talking shit, yet Omar goes around town calling you all sorts of things and stealing your shit and you don't step to? To quote Brother Mouzone "business is where you are now, but what got you here is your word and reputation". Without your rep, you ain't shit in the streets.

  • @Antrizzle2009 I agree

  • I am seeing it this way: i never respected Marlo because he didnt won the crown with fight. String and Avon destroyed each other, and I dont believe he would defeat Avon in that war they had. Avon was a true soldier who won his crown with fight, they mentioned it many times, but not Marlo, Avon defined BOSS and he didnt relie on anybody unlike Marlo on Chris. Sorry for bad Eng.

  • @doncromat What are you talking about? Avon had muscle just like Marlo did. This double standard people show with these guys is rediculous. Marlo had Chris and Snoop, Avon had Wee Bay, Bird, Stink Um, and Little Man. Bosses don't do the dirt, that's what the soldiers are for. Avon got the crown the same way Marlo did, with force. And at the end of the day Marlo had the real crown. He ran the entire city's drug trade where as Avon was just west side.

  • There wasn't a $100K bounty on Omar before he died. Last time I recall it was up'd to $250K.

  • @IMME01234567 I thought I was the only one who thought that

  • Marlo wasn't smart Chris was way smarter then him and was the one who was doing the most work.Marlo was arrogant, and rather stupid,if Chris didn't cover his back, telling him what and how to do in like 99 % cases he would never got big in first place and would die on the street young. So i wonder, why didn't they explain background of him and Chris, like for example they kinda did for String and Avon.

  • My Name Is My Name!

  • Check out Chris after all that ranting, he's like well, anyway, like I was saying, before I was interrupted......."I don't see the boy snitching" classic!

  • Man that dude Marlo has a switch where he turns it on and off...abt 40 secs of ranting n he goes back to his normal tone..the man is cold n calculating

  • I was so disappointed when Marlo wasn't killed.

  • @01000001011100100111 Michael got him later on...for sure :)

  • I'd like to think that the background noise and chatter actually just dissipates naturally when Marlo raises his voice. Anyone in that pit with Marlo and that probably knew who he was and wouldn't have wanted to do anything to provoke him.

  • Comment removed

  • Marlo new the game and in order to be respected rather it was earned or demanded yo name has to have good credit.so Marlo always made it clear that he didnt want no body talking bad about his name.

  • marlo never got his hands dirty... worst than stringer.

  • @cianamja wrong he was suspected in three murders also killed that girl he banged. Marlo was a killer

  • @cianamja they were pretty dirty when he killed that girl that was setting him up. I'm surprised we never saw anything about that, looked like a 'taxpayer' neighborhood she lived in too.

  • i mean 1:42 lol

  • 1:43 is hilarious lol

  • this made it known that Marlo was really in charge the way he checks Chris and Monk says alot about the true pecking order when it came down to it

  • i wish they wouldve told marlo, i wanted to c him and omar get down

  • @imserious2187 hell yeah shit would've been dope, but the wire is realistic. dramatic final showdowns don't usually happen in real life.

  • Notice how when Marlo gets fired up they dim the background noise and chatter. This heightens the tension of the scene in a very subtle yet effective way. In any other crime show or movie they would use dramatic music in this scene so you know something important is happening. The Wire respects its audience too much to hit it over the head with cheesy melodrama.

  • @synquantro It made it seem like everybody shut the hell up when he got pissed.

  • This is the greatest show of all time and bc of this show i have "my name is my name" tattooed across my chest

  • MARLO IS A BITCH

  • Michael didnt snitch....He neva even said a word

  • There is soooo much passion is this scene..real talk!!!

    Marlo is gangsta

  • Talk MADAFAKA !!!!

  • 1:11-1:12 The way Chris looks to Monk there, they know Marlo better than anyone, and know they've just set him off.

  • Comment removed

  • This was the moment I finally had respect for Marlo. Until then he just seemed like a guy who let Snoop and Chris do all the dirty work while he kicked back. He showed in this scene that he'd step to anybody if need be. It's kind of disappointing the way Season 5 looked like it was setting up a Omar vs Marlo standoff, but then they never even met.

  • @TMGin87 That's the realism of the show, somethings just don't happen like they should've.

  • Um... Marlo's acting when angry is horrible!

@noah11085 Shut up. Your so corny.

  • Um... Marlo's acting when angry is horrible!

  • @chinnlatoya Its ace!! What are you on about! Its the man with the calmest, steeliest dispostion finally breaking into anger. I think he played it perfectly.

  • marlo was the hardest nigga in the whole show

  • more of that snitching shit

  • Yeah MArlo was a bitch. Dropping security guards and random folk on some he said/she said bullshit. I hated this dude! I loved Avon!

  • Nobody mentioned the Barksdales, Marlo....Got something on your mind?

  • this show, really encompasses the spectrum of personalities in modern society. I think growing up it helped me understand people, motives and how morality is really circumstantial. One day when i have children, I will show them this.

  • After hearing Marlo speak in the same monotonous tone the whole series, this terrified me.

  • Step to any motherfucker? Bitchass coward put a 100K hit on Omar....

  • @seekisforme5 real talk

  • @seekisforme5 He also said he would step up to Barksdale, after he paid him 100K to talk to Sergei.

  • It was impossible for me to like Marlo's murdering ass but this scene was dope.

  • This is the only scene where Marlo show you how commanding he can be in a room full of pshycopaths. Believe me they are they are som dispicable people. Thats why I love the wire. It does not glorify the the horrific affect drug dealing thugs have on communities like the flashy rappers do.

  • Omar say what?

  • Chris is such a cold-ass psychopath, but the actor that plays him is incredibly nice and friendly. It's a little jarring to see him smiling and laughing in interviews.

  • Marlo gets respect in the same sense that a rapist gets pussy.

  • @UDontKnow1984 Great analogy.

  • @UDontKnow1984 his extreme ruthlessness aside, he's cunning. He's smart. His little outburst here aside, he's always composed & in control. That, along with his big stick, also commands respect.

  • Respect is respect. No matter how it is earned

  • Did anybody in the series respect Marlo? Michael questioned his authority and decision making. Chris undermining his decision to execute Michael. Prop Joe setting him up and manipulating him. D'vonne from season 3 attempted to set him up. Avon made him made him fork over $100k to arrange a meeting with Sergei. Omar not only robs him, but publicly slanders his name. The two kids in season finale. Bodie and Slim Charles refusing to work in tandem with his crew.

  • Even as I'm looking at Marlo and his crew, I still think Levy is the most vile, disgusting character in the entire show.

  • Awesome scene of Marlo

  • You pause it around 2:08, you've got that picture tells a thousand stories look on Marlo.

  • lol chris has just got a murder pinned and Marlo just gives a fuck about 'his name.' If i was Chris I'd be like 'STFU niga i got problems bitch'

  • @TheGlyn1234 Chris is a drone. He's marlo's slave, so at the moment i dont think he gives a fuck if his life is thrown away for marlo

  • @TheGlyn1234 nah chris has to stand tall or his family would strave.

  • "What the fuck you know about what I need on my mind motherfucker?"

This is the first time Marlo displays any sort of emotion. It's fucking terrifying.

  • WHAT THE FUCK YOU KNOW ABOUT WHAT I NEED ON MY MIND MUTHAFUCKA!??

  • My name was on the street! Hahaha

  • thats that baltimore shit so for those who live it you know how them streets be and for those that watch it.....well you only feel our shit through a t.v. show so if it wasn't for HBO you wouldn't know shit! PARK HEIGHTS ALL DAY SHORRRTY PIMLICO & WALLY WORLD RAISE IT UP!

  • "My name is my name" even though alot of people didn't like Marlo. you had to respect how he was.

  • CLASSIC scene. The way they're sitting shows the hierarchy. Cheese and Monk hunched over, Chris with his foot up, a little more relaxed, Marlo holding court. Once they start talking about Omar, Chris puts his foot down on the floor and stops being so relaxed; he saw where the conversation was headed and knew his place.

  • Best part about the scene was how Marlo pulled rank on Chris like "what the fuck you know about what I need on my mind motherfucker?" CLASSIC

  • I was like THE FUCK. Wow. He really played the part well. Marlo only got scared and angry when his reputation was on the line. Not his life, not his money nor his people.

  • @MrBubbleKing It was brilliant

  • love the way chris just calmy nods when marlo asks him if he's caught a murder charge lol... just like 'yip, shit happens'... i was really wantin omar to take marlo out... 1 man had a whole crew fuckin spooked

  • You never know what'll happen in the streets- we know that Marlo left the game with the money and staus but no power,he might just run into Michael in the streets and Mike puts one in his head for callin' him a bitch-ass punk years back for not taking his money when Namond, Dukie and Randy took the money for school clothes

  • A couple of observations: Marlo's ambition is unmatched. He is definately a sociopath> It seems that Avon represents the classic coke dealer from the 70's; he obeys a code. Marlo is like the early 80's crack epidemic; murders everyehere and no code at all. Random Comparison: Avon = Jay-Z sucessful and classic. Marlo = Lil Wayne sucessful but not in the same class. Lastly Marlo's weakness is gambling it almost got him killed . Much like another sociopath...Soprano

  • 10 people called Marlo out as a punk.

  • people who always say "Y DDNT CHRIS JUS WHOOP MARLO N TAEK OVA" and all that stupid shit watch this scene and realise why theyre all scared of marlo. his background before his introduction is largely unexplored but you know he had to have done some grimy shit to get niggas like chris bowing their heads to him

  • @D39MUSIC also Chris is a killer, a hired gun, i don't think he would the mind to oversee the drug operations. He's just muscle and proably gets paid good for offing people

  • "WHAT THE FUCK YOU KNOW ABOUT WHAT I NEED ON MY MIND, MOTHERFUCKA??"

^Marlo completely lost his cool at that point.

  • This was the only time I seen marlo let his emotions show

  • His people don't fear Marlo, Marlo's crew fears Chris. Not that's one fucked up organization lol

  • Problem with this scene is that central booking is recorded, there are even signs on the walls stating such so unless you’re an idiot you don’t talk about criminal activity.

  • 10 people had their name in the street.

  • Most of you miss the point, completely. There were certain things in this game that set people off. Avon wanted his corners, for them to be his and for the loyalty of his gang. Stringer wanted to become a business man and get out of the gangster game. Omar wanted to live by a code and they didn't hide it at all. We didn't know what Marlo did all this for, all this violence and trafficking until now. He hides his emotion but he can't bare for his name to be slandered. His name IS his name. Power.

  • @EgyptianPlanet

Agree. So many miss the irony of season 5. Marlo only valued his REP and had J-Bug killed for what peeps thought he said. Then Omar called him a punk over and over and made sure everyone in the streets heard it and Marlo didnt do sh*t cuz his crew didnt tell him. Regardless, Omar in death kept his street cred while Marlo lost it as evidenced later in the season when corner boys talked admirably about Omar and didnt even acknowledge Marlo. Marlo lost but many dont see it.

  • @speeze67 Marlo didn't become a legend like Omar but I'd say money and freedom means he won.

  • im mad omar died like that ... that shit was so gay, he was a straight up G ... damn

  • just got "my name is my name" tattooed across my chest

  • dat shit gives goosebumps when he says my name is my name, he said wit a voice dat he was hurt dat he didnt kno bout omar calling him out

  • the idea that Snoop could be a snitch is so absurd it wasn't even entertained

  • @BishopOcelot

    Cheese: Snoop knew

    Chris: sheeeeeit!

Thats was the end of that. LOL!

  • @BishopOcelot If snoop was a snitch she'd probly kill herlself

  • Spiros Vondas says his name isn't his name. Marlo says his name is his name. That's why the Greeks were on top.

  • dunno why chris never offed marlo and took over!!

  • @weeleon81 cuz chris more of a soldier than a business man, he the muscle of the organization not the brains

  • @OhNoTruly true dat.. but he was smart enough to get away with multiple homicides for ages, i wish theyd bring the wire back... show whos runnin the streets of Bmore now (in the spirit of the show of course).. or make a series about omar or some shit... its was too good, probably the best tv show of all time

  • to sum up both crews, it was like this, Avon ran his shit like a fortune 500 company, and Marlo ran he's like the military. militant with his shit..........peace

  • @TheSupremeSun Faggot.

  • @JohnBrody23 homeboy i dont think you know me, stay yo bitch ass behind the computer

  • as crazy as people may think Chris was, you would have to check his life story before you pass judgment, because believe it or not he did have principle, the series show us that. With Marlo it wasnt the money or fame,it was power. With Chris,he was a soilder and he knew that, it was all about completing the mission,it wasnt money or power with him either,or you could call him the perfect employee. Now snoop, she loved murder and that was it

  • He looks at people like usable goods, like ordinary people look at cars, clothes and other stuff, so he looks right through them.Stone cold mofo, with inteligence, and discipline like that is a deadly combo for any bussines.

  • I didn't know Dwyane Wade had a brother!!!!!

  • He may not have been likeable but he was a beast, the work he put in is implied by the crew he ran with...who else walked away? Avon...Omar...Prop Joe...Who?

  • The series had established a code between the street gangs and marlo never gave a f*ck about that! Stacking up bodies in the vacants...who does that? Avon was a drug dealing gangsta but he ran things with a certain respect. That's why it was hard for him to have stringer blasted. It wasn't too hard for marlo to send chris to prison for life. The writers needed a character to push the enevelope with the boundaries they set up. Marlo fit into that perfectly. I thought

  • Comment removed

  • @slabofhambone12345 it was hard for avon to give up stringer. but he knew what was good for bizz. Try to run yo boss bizz behind his back like Dame Dash did ,and Jay Z has to pull the rug out from under yo feet. Now with Chris,Marlo didnt have to give him up,Chris was a soilder, that was giving missions ,and at the end of the day he knew what it was. you need to rewatch the show and stay on the porch

  • @slabofhambone12345 Well, there was nothing that Marlo could do about Chris except shake his head. Remember, even Avon had his own nephew take a 20 year sentence. They aren't magicians.

  • @slabofhambone12345 Hell yeah, and I like how after all that killin and that money he skated with he left without respect. That was the one thing he wanted and he didn't get it and he knew that and you could tell it would eat at him for the rest of his life.

  • @slabofhambone12345 you can't really believe that about Avon now. Think about the security guard killed in the first episode(then think of Marlo and the security guard). Think about Omars boyfriend who was tortured(now think Butchie). Avon let Sovino take the wrap, he let D'Angelo do time, same with Weebay(Marlo did the same with Chris). There's a scene between Cutty and Slim Charles that sums up the difference b/w Avon and Marlo...."The Game done change...Game's the same. Just got more fierce."

  • @slabofhambone12345 dude there aint no fuckin criminal code of ethics in being a gangbanger (doesnt criminal code of ethics sound oxymoron in itself)...is that what youre asking for? avon had a criminal code of ethics...and his dumbass ended up in jail while marlo and left the game with millions

  • @slabofhambone12345 Shit, are you straight from the projects?? ....

  • @slabofhambone12345 I really don't think the Barksdale organization ran anything with any honest semblance of "respect." They made sociopathic, heartless decisions as well. The difference between tat and the Stanfield crew was the difference between bad and worse, not between respectful and bad.

  • how do you know the fuck I need on my mind muthafucka..... I love that part

  • i agree with ya completely cockmyrasbah. the fact that he can order so many deaths without a second thought and yet the slightest assault on his reputation causes this reaction. the scene that makes the character make sense.

  • The only time in the entire series where Marlo's usually unflappable calmness is broken. That's what makes this scene so powerful - it's the only time we see him show any emotion over anything.

  • i keep seeing people say marlo wudv known omar's opinion of him so saying he didnt know is no excuse but your missing the point. its not about what omar thought its what everyone else thought. omar calling for him to take to the streets with no reply made marlo look weak. also someone said jamie hector overplayed marlo! complete opposite. it is a great understated performance from jamie. him and gbenga's performances perfectly compliment more eccentric characters like snoop and omar.

  • marlo was beyond all that... he was thinkin beyond all that. people that needed to know him knew him. all the rough and tumbles he cared less about. notice how the greek took a liking to him and gave the ok to get joe out the way. after ALL thoz yrs. i forget which episode but the greek said "he's not joe..." with a smirk. marlo was young, fearless, and very very smart. i cant imagine how people come off that way about marlo's character. he was one of the most untouchable underground boss' on TV

  • Comment removed

  • @blkdeathrite

how was strategy not one of his strong points? he got into the exact seat he wanted to sit in. KINGPIN. and i heavily doubt u rise to the position by bein a "coward." look back in season 3 n c how the homicide detective describes marlo "black" stanfield to gregs. not a coward at the least I'M SURE... wat does a man in his position have to prove to anybody by season 5? he's got his minions to do that.

  • @silence11428 I don't think the Greek to a liking to Marlo. He admires Marlo's tenacity, but I think he just knew that Marlo was gonna kill Joe no matter what they say. Besides, it didn't matter to the Greek who the distributor was as long as the money kept coming in.

  • Man Jamie Hector was gooood in this. I can't imagine anyone pulling off Marlo like he did

  • the source of information was made up right? because the wire tap was illegal

  • This is the only scene in the whole series in which Marlo is interesting.

That said, I don't see why Chris didn't just kick the s*** out of him. Marlo's a skinny, little p***y.

  • @Propz74 LMAO haha

  • 1:51, how are they going to bounce from this & go back on the corners when Chris is facing a murder charge, at least, and Monk & Cheese are facing trafficking charges? Marlo, you blew it. No wonder you had to clear the corner by yourself. He lost his "name" when he lost his people.

  • @Propz74 he did but only because he tried to distance himself from the petty shit like street dealing and the killings. marlo wanted to rule the world. i read this on some site regarding the wire and it's so true...chris and snoop are two of the most badass motherfuckers in baltimore, but they always answered to marlo. imagine how scary marlo's gotta be for chris to do marlo's bidding. the only problem for him was he rose too quickly. marlo was still a scary son of a bitch

  • Marlo scares the shit out of me in that scene.

  • Marlo is one bad mofo...truth

  • this, to me explains a lot of the lose ending with marlo. when Marlo walk up to the corner boys getting his hand cut. in the end he had everything stringer bell wanted, but for marlo, he just wanted the crown. theres a scene were stringer says to avon "u gotta remember what we got in this game for, was it so our name could ring out on a fucking ghetto street corner?" the opposite of marlo

  • Fantastic acting from the kid who plays Marlo.

  • @thestranger4812 yeah, every actor on the wire was amazing! Notice how he hardly moves his mouth when he speaks? Kinda interesting

  • @thestranger4812 true. the only time u really saw him vexed

  • @thestranger4812 the "kid" who plays Marlo is 35 years old, lol. dude looks way younger than he actually is

  • @thestranger4812 Jamie Hector was superb.

  • @thestranger4812 agreed. Except, he's no kid. Born in 1975. Looks young though

  • @Filbunkish ..The Wire was set in the mid 90's..thats why the boy looks so young.

  • @WiseGuy5674 no it wasnt......it was set in modern day...it mentions the year a few times!!!!

  • @dwano20 ..I watched an interview with the writers....it may be present day when you're watching...but its based upon the early 90's when B-More was like the old west.. Fact.

  • @dwano20 ..look at Omar's toe-tag in the morge,,,,1968....That would make him 43 today....even though in court, he said he was "29 or so"

  • @WiseGuy5674 There are a few scenes in the Major Crimes office where McNulty/Lester are pulling out old files that say "2002 Barksdale Investigation" or "2003 Port Investigation", so time is concurrent in the series with present day
