  • Bad assed!

  • can you believe Chevy Chase used to be their drummer? I can't picture him doin' the Purdie shuffle.

  • @Goosemeyer He apparently said The Leather Canaries (previous name) were bad jazz/blues, but jazz and blues requires good drumming too which Chevy probably couldn't provide.

  • ....goin insane!

  • Shoots... I like this better than the commercial mixed version.

  • @glasscitadel12 Me too man.

  • Just sold this old vinyl with much sadness, no deck. Must get it on CD...

  • @amylnitrateify It's pretty hard to get the vinyl man. My dad bought KL for $3 CAD, probably because side 2 or B needed cleaning (shitload of static noise like The Eagles).

  • I can hear Dylan singing this

  • I should say studio perfection production.

  • No they are not easy to sing..defi a demo. Donald might have not been the best singer, but who wrote lyrics like that along with Becker. It worked, they just did the monster studio takes for the album. That's how things were done until punk came along (ramones), and studio overproduction was coming to an end. Love the Dan

  • but those parts are not easy to sing

  • Very Great Share. Yeah......thats McDonald for Sure. Excellent :-D

  • One of my favorite SD songs....Doctor Wu ranks up there, too....

  • why cant i find the regular version i havent even heard this song cuz i cant find the original ughhh

  • @tarkan525201 I'm pretty sure this is the "original". You don't hear Michael McDonald's background vocals and Fagen's voice has not been edited to be "commercial".

  • @worldwidekillerz No it's not. For example, listen to the way he says "take me for a fool" and compare it to the original. Not the same.

  • Where did this recording come from?

  • after hearing this it really adds to my appreciation for the solo that made the final cut. not that this is bad, by any means, but you definitely see the work and perfectionism of becker/fagen in the studio after comparing this and the album version

  • In many cases I prefer Michael McDonald's background vox to his lead (though he has done a few memorable leads). But it in this instance it is indisputable that his background vocals MAKE this track.

  • @scribbled309 I must confess, I disagree about this song but I love his vocals in "Any World That I'm Welcome To".

  • who the hell's idea was michael mcdonald?! sorry michael- not your fault.

  • @gackstacker Donald's, but don't hate on him for it. Donald's idea was for Michael to only to do background vocals because his vocals aren't that great (and Donald was the main prominent voice of Steely Dan), but Michael can play keyboards so Michael McDonald was a blessing and a curse. If you listen to Peg I think you'll find his almost "dead" background vocals quite funny and delighting, the way it should be. What happened to the Doobie Brothers shouldn't have happened.

  • @worldwidekillerz i take it back now- mcDonald's backing vox do add a depth and texture to this cracking song.

  • @worldwidekillerz Michael's vocals added body and soul to this tune..yes Soul which I know you have none!!!!!!!!!!

  • @worldwidekillerz What happened to the Doobies is what should have happened back in 1976..Tom Johnstone was gone (due to personal problems) and the direction of rock music was changing..straight rock was giving it's way to AOR rock and the Doobies sensed the changes unlike, for instance, the Allman Brothers and other great rock bands...with Michael McDonald in their line-up they produced some well respected albums which caught up with their era in both means of artistic and commercial success..

  • I agree. Any of the live stuff they do with him singing the lead totally cheeses me out. Donald didn't realize how unique and perfect his voice was for the music he was writing. Plus think he and Walter always had it in their heads that they were ment to just be the songwriters and backing band.

  • @gackstacker You are crazy!

  • so many great things about this recording of Bad Sneakers,

  • This is Jeff Pocaro on drums as he played most of this record at age 20. I like the one on the record. It's better. This is just a rehearsal.

  • this is SO rare......i can't decide whether or not i prefer the released version to this one.

  • @CrimsonKing73 In this case they're quite similar don't you think.

  • @worldwidekillerz sure, but Fagan's vocals are just a teeny weeny bit more sloppy on this one than the KL version.....not in a bad way, of course :) He seems like he is rushing thru the vocals/lyrics, while the released version is more laid back......both are GRRRRREAT!

  • One of the Dan's best songs in my opinion. Lyrics are great and the little code at the end rules.

  • man....this is great....kool...very kool!!!!!
