God, that section starting around 8:20 is one of my favourite parts in any song ever, it's just a pure masterpiece, the singing, the screaming, the solo, everything.
A couple of friends and I played Requiem and the beginning of this song at a school performance and I after the performance everyone was asking what the name of the song was and any songs similar to it, lol.
Opeth are truely the masters of art, not just music.
My favorite Opeth song. This was the song that got me into their music, the intro is so other worldly and the rest of the song is filled with different feelings and emotions that get to me everytime... This is a masterpiece of modern music.
I first heard this on a Candlelight Records Sampler CD, which had most of their artists on it. This was the first Opeth song I heard and ive never stoped loving them since... Well, maybe after Blackwater Park when they went a bit mainstream, but you know.... Most of their stuff!
I managed to find a live version of this song! I uploaded it for anyone interested in giving it a listen, it's amazing. Just search for this song live and it should be on the first page :)
@PunkAndFun You want to point out to me where I said anyone could not say they don;t like it? You sure are sensitive about a comment that has nothing to do with you. You might want to ease up on the estrogen.
Check out about 3:44 into the song... something is being quietly whispered. I heard someone say he's saying "So Judah fucked it all up", another said "in solitude I wander". I think it's the latter because it would be much more in place and with the style of Opeth than cursing (I mean can anyone point out an Opeth song with language in it other than hell?)
that excellent acoustic intro...and this is an amazing closer to the album indeed. 'orchid' is simply one of the most adventurous debuts,if not albums,of all time. its not about creating 10- minute plus songs.its not about being good on the guitar or any other instrument. its about composing something that comes from the heart, mind and soul.that is what makes this song pure and efficient:)
Easily the best Opeth song ever made. The initial first growl is enough to make any metalhead climax instantly; The drumming albeit not the most complex I have ever heard, is absolutely amazing; every beat of the drum sends shivers throughout my body. The guitar, going from mellow and almost medieval peace, to gorgeous chords painting such a lovely picture....All in all, an amazing song, and one that I will remember until the day I die. And will die headbanging to.
no, if you do your research, the TRACK starts at the very beginning, but the publisher fucked up; this was intended as the second section of 'requiem', and then the song 'apostle in triumph' was actually begun at where 1:29 happens to be in this track. they screwed up the tracks, essentially.
If I saw Opeth live just once I could die happy...
Theres not a single song that I wouldn't kill to see live.
Good thing I missed them when they were literally 80 miles from my house... My dumbass friend forgot to tell me. How the fuck do you forget about an opeth concert!?
@maggotfrom1993 lmfao i have mixed manic episodes so i probly have read smurfs and listened to opeth at one point or another, im gonna go listen to necro, or maybe anal blast and see how it syncs up with the old carebears movie lolzzz
If you take the "Quite Possibly" out of the description this video will be perfect ;) Always nice to meet someone who's fav song is also TAIT, easily their best song ever no contest. It's completely epic, the length, the lyrics, the vocals, hell they even pull out a fucking violin. What I liked about their old stuff is the drumming was extremely simple yet effective. The drumming isn't anything too crazy like in most death metal, but it definitely flows well with the music.
@kratos015 Lol there is no violin, its called a volume swell. You pick a note on the guitar with the volume knob turned down, then after the note is picked you turn the volume up and then back down, makes the violinish sound. Very neat.
Oh there are skips, heh. I've carried this cd around with me for so long and played the hell out of it, so yeah it's a little beat up. I did clean it up as best as I could before putting it on here. And yes for those who have a hard time reading I did put the second part up, just click the "more info" tab. And there goes one skip 3:03 and another around 3:22. Ah well.
For those of you who don't know, the beginning of this song is actually the ending of "Requiem", the song listed before this on the album. It was a mishap in the editing process. Funny fact:)
orchid is really different than any other album, but it is kind of mesmerizing, slow and piercing, but i really find Apostle the gem not only in this album nor the Opeth discography, but in the whole realm that music is.
I would kind of agree about Apostle, and pretty much do agree, but in the past few months I have discovered "Still Day Beneath The Sun".......just another incredible Opeth song. Very hard to own, but you can find it easily here on youtube. Check it out if you never heard it.
@BlackRoseImmortal Still day beneath the sun is just too good XD but what about hope leaves? IMO that song is really amazing cant stop listening to it lol
Orchid imo is the best Opeth album. I can't understand why some people dislike it or view it as the weakest album.
Every single song is beautiful, dark, and atmospheric. Its also definitely heavier, so if you like the soft opeth, shy away fool, because this is opeth at its roots.
Personally, I can't say I favor any albums (except Blackwater which I started listening Opeth with so it's my heart album :P) but I can't say about any album that it's the weakest and I didn't hear anyone saying Orchid isn't great. For me, at least, every album is a masterpiece of it's own, even if "new stuff has to many clean vocals :/" their breakouts are even more juicy :P And, if you don't like the soft Opeth, you don't like half of Opeth... I can hardly wait to see them on 17th of july!
I guess, the work should be well done . Not only when mastering, that, is when the problem occurred, so Requiem came as a part of Apostle in Triumph . So you should place it after 1:30 minutes . But, still this is a masterpiece of Opeth, my preferred album .
This was the song that got me into Opeth. The ambient quality in the song is unmatched, and the end with the solos is just unbelievable. I think Orchid was a good album apart from the production value..
