Too bad the comments have taken this turn because they should be about this very cool performance. Regarding your point, I've seen interviews and Davis/White seem very nice. Davis is shy; in fact, for a long time after the two were put together as a skating pair, she was too shy to look up at White and their coach threatened to put a sticker on her forehead so her partner would 'have something to look at.' I'd reserve personal criticism. Key: this dance, costuming & music are wayyy cool.

I am a white midwestern american of northern european ethnicity who is married to an Brahmin Hindu Indian from New Delhi we both we're very very moved by this performance. I especially because I started skating not long after walking & as well he has learned to figure skate not long after being married 6 years ago....so this can be possible for an Indian to do on the ice! This part of the comp is called Folk dance, not folk songs. Folk dance portion is choosing a country and skating to their "type" of music or dances. There's a european couple who are doing american folk dance but they're dancing to a country western song, not traditional american folk dances or songs. It's just a name really.

This song is a bit of a compilation, but it's not really a folk song. It's Silsila Ye Chaahat Ka, from the film Devdas, starring Aishwarya Rai, Shahrukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit (all superstars in India). The words of the song are a woman longing for her lover in the rain. You can get the video on YouTube.

The music was composed by A.R. Rahman (winner of the Oscar for his work on Slumdog Millionaire - he wrote the ubiquitous Jai Ho). If you like the music, watch the film. It's incredible.

Enchanting! Meryl's graceful, fluid dancing almost makes me believe she's an Indian village girl dancing with joy to that earthy, hypnotic music. And those subtle coy looks, she's got it all. they were amazing no doubt. But whoever thought of mixing 3 different songs... and not even smoothly was an idiot. All songs are wonderful by themselves. but if u choose a part of it and just stick it with something else- it didn't work!

And as many have noticed it, it is not folk but a mighty remix- mixing of many bollywood songs. Bad. !!!! To dance on that was really a challenge.

In figure skating it is very common to mix music abruptly because they have a limited amount of time for a program and will get a deduction if they are over time, even for only a few seconds. It is unfortunate for sure, but not unusual.
