Its really funny when people are saying that darth maul cant survive because he's been cut in two by a lighsaber, this is not realist. Humm lets not forget whe are talking about star wars, a fiction where their is someting call the force, where people are shooting lightning with their hands, where a little green guy can survive for 900 years, and you re critcizing a show because someone got cut in two....WELLL
Jeez, this looks EPIC. March Ninth is SO far away! (Actually, it's in five days, but still). Looks like it's going to be a three way fight, if not four way. Ventress is going to fight, Maul and Savage are definitely going to fight together, and then there is Grevious and Dooku. Plus, from other trailers I've seen, Obi Wan fights him. So that adds the fourth factor.
However, because the Nightsisters are all dead, it wouldn't surprise me if Ventress sided with Obi Wan and the Jedi.
Darth Maul shouldnt die in season 4. In season 5, their should be a fight between Darth Maul and Darth Tyrannus, and see how Darth Sidious will react. Darth Maul has been train to be a sith all is life, while Count Dooku was trained to be a jedi, but later choose the other side.
How exactly can you survive being cut in half and thrown down the deepest pit I've ever seen? Obi-Wan didn't just cut off his legs, he cut him IN HALF! The only reason why his guts didn't fall out was that the movie was rated PG.
@matman000000 Because do you remember when Darth Sidious told Anakin about a sith lord who was soo powerful he could stop others from dying, but could'nt save himself? His apprenticed killed him at night while he was sleeping and the apprentice was Sidious and he learned how to cheat death and he taught Darth Maul how to do so.
@matman000000 Hey, if Anakin can survive getting his arm and both legs chopped off as well as being burned alive, I think Darth Maul can survive being cut in half
@UltraRenegade You can easily survive a cut-off limb, especially if the wound is burned, which stops the bleeding. Also, Anakin got medical care almost immediately. Darth Maul was cut in half, that means his organs, necessary for his life, were damaged and there was nothing to keep them in the body, and he fell into a deep pit, probably a cooling shaft of the reactor, and he didn't get any medical care.
@CGoddard1993 It's not just about his minimal chances of surviving, it's about a good storyline. This reincarnation of characters makes no sense, it's like from some dumb soap opera. If they wanted to make a story about Darth Maul, they shouldn't had killed him in the first place.
It's awesome that Darth Maul will come back. He's the one that brought back using a double-bladed lightsaber. Killed Jedi Master Manka when he first used it. A Jedi master. Which had bested Maul before using nothing but a wooden stick.
@ExplodingRecycables Yah and I wish people would stop complaining. This is Star Wars, and Star Wars canon at that. Most people who bash on the show havnt even watched it. Yes, there are those bad parts, but its all STAR WARS canon.
@boba7772 I watch every episode of clone wars... because i have no life realy but thats bseide the point. the clone wars can be good some times but when they Fuck with other star wars work like the books and games and such is when it starts to suck and when ppl start complaining about it. Turning mandalorians into pacifist and terrorists rather then the honorable warriors that they were in the books. Turning quinlan vos into a duche. I feel like its giving me the finger sometimes.
@MirtaGevFett I agree with you completely (although Quinlan is suppose to act like that, but a little less goofy). They have ruined a bit, or "retconned". I still accept this is canon and is good, at times. (Even Piell dying, I hated)
I just read the book they wrote about Maul's past. He has no memory of how he lived, but he now has mechanical spider legs, which i suspect are to be replaced soon, and Savage Opress uses the talisman to restore most of his memories, and now Maul's goal is to kill the one who made him the way he is: Obi-Wan.
@ WildDrake1 I know all of that happened but luke got his hand cut off and jumped off and there were medics for Vader but what are the chances of there being medics at the bottom of a random shaft
13 yrs for Lucas to realize and accept his boo boo, then quickly slip in a b.s story, which doesn't fuck anything up—all the while die hard fans spooge over the idea that this was the plan all along—yep.
New, news about darth maul! that starkiller voice actor (from force unleashed 1&2) will be doing the voice for darth maul! And the epsiode will be on march the 9th! ign info!
@willdrake1 Is ther no one who remembers whatsidious tells anakin in episode 3 abouth plagus, maul may have learned the seacret for this power@, they have hinted towards that and when maul feel down the shaft in episode 1 he grabed a airvent or some thing and got away from naboo some how, that i dont know but im just glad he is returning and savage too :) and @powerglove100 maul is 100 % real only with robot legs, his uper body is his original, its not a clone
A decade: No hint, no suggestion, nothing—as well as every other thing I've already posted which points to the fact this is all has been recently thought of and pushed out; not some long standing plot/story which is now coming to fruition.
Sorry,Lucas can deus ex machina all he wants. It is what it is.
you are probably about to check wookiepedia to find out what happenes to him, so i'll save you the time here.
At the end of the episode "Witches of the Mist," Mother Talzin gives Savage Opress a necklace that will lead him to Maul, because she also reveals they are brothers. So Savage goes to this cave where Maul is in exile and has been driven mad, so he takes Maul back to the witches and they fix him up, so then Maul and Savage go and do something in the Season Finale, which is 4 parts long.
i was looking on the star wars website SPOILERS UP AHEAD GUYS JUST A WARNING! So anyway it said maul went to this person and she gave him robot legs or something that could be how he comes back or hes a clone (i hope not) people say 90% robot legs 10% clone so i guess hes coming mack as darth grevious hahaha lol.......not funny
@TheBump465 clone wars is on of the best things that hasvhappened to star wars exept for swtor and bringin maul back, if you are a fan you should be glad if not why are you here?
While me and @thebump465 agree with the issue of Maul, I happen to like the cartoon; also, I feel, like the comics (games making them a bit too Superherolike in power level) it shows off just how powerful Jedi/Sith really are as compared to the movies—which didn't really show them off so much and infact, often sets up WTF moments when comparing the two.
Okey first of all the idea of bringing maul back wasent lucases, it some one else working on the crew. Lucas only sayed yes, he dident come up with it, and stop haiting on lucas if it wasent for him star wars wouldent have been made. Allsow the clone wars storyes and plot has goten better rewievs than many other good shows and even the movies. I cant waith to see how this part will be, savage and maul are my favorite characters and i dont care what hapens as long as they dont die in season 4 im
@RogueScholarBlue Ye :) personally I would off prefered him with the general grevious type cybernetic legs from Visionaries but it doesnt really matter its awesome that hes back
Hope someone is able to post the new EW.com video. We get a much more up to date, though very quick, reveal of Maul. We also hear him (voiced by Sam "Starkiller" Witwer) essentially loosing his shit. It's both awesome and creepy as hell.
@godzillafan452 Correct. I think that's the first time *anything* in Star Wars, and especially for The Clone Wars, has ever scared the poop out of me. They way you hear him crying, then laughing, then barking, then screaming, then it cuts to the, "JEDI!!!" It's almost like he's in Hell.
@RogueScholarBlue A great little snippet; gives you an idead what he'll be like now that he's lost his mind. I'm not digging Witwer as his VA though; frankly, I've heard enough of his whining in the Force Unleashed games, so I'm not looking forward to the same from Maul. Also, his voice is not nearly as sinister sounding as Park's in Ep. I. They got Liam Neeson to reprise Qui Gon in the show, I wonder why they didn't get Park now that Maul finally returns. Still, looking forward to this!
@thespringheeledjack Park didn't voice Maul (for good reason) in Phantom Menace, that was Peter Serafinowicz, who, if you've ever heard him speak normally, doesn't sound all that menacing. Sam's done a lot more then Starkiller in TFU. Aside from voicing Emperor Palpatine in the same game, he was also the voice of Son from Season 3's Mortis Trilogy; if you listen he does, perhaps, 3 voices in that one character. Coupled with his work on Being Human, sinister comes easy.
He fucking died! I am not a fan of the prequels, and the Clone Wars series is bullshit, so how the hell did he survive being cut in half, falling down a huge pit, and not being foud for a long time? That's why the clone wars is bullshit!
Die hard fans don't care about that stuff, they know killing Maul off in the first place was the worst idea ever and they're glad Lucas finally got around to admitting it—by bringing him back.
They don't care that Maul was written off; they don't care that Lucas didn't have a back story—each slightly different—till other authors (comics/books) got the approval; until the cartoon "made up" the brother/planet/night sisters stuff: none of which existed at the time of P.M
@AJay1125ful They are NOT bringing him back! The red guy you see in the crystal ball is Maul's other brother(not the one who he kills on the planet).If it is the REAL Darth Maul, and he was cloned by the Night Sisters,but he is still the brother of the big yellow guy. Lastly,both he and his brother either die or survive and turn to the lightside.On early action figure packs I've see at various toy fairs,the yellow one sacrifices himself to either stop his brother or stop him from killing Ventris
@ginko27 Hate to burst your hypothesis bubble but the Maul who is returning is, in fact, Episode I's Darth Maul. It's not a Clone, it's not some *other* Zabrak. He's the real deal. Dave Filoni confirmed that on TheForceCast, i.e. "He's not a Clone." Art was also leaked from the press event at Skywalker Ranch this past week; the art shows Maul much as he was depicted in the Visionaries comic by Dark Horse. Elongated horns, somewhat emaciated, and with droid legs. Also, a new video is on EW.com
To all people that say Maul did not die I'm not trying to be mean so if this sounds mean I'm sorry but did you not see him get sliced in half and fall down the giant shaft? I hope he did survive but I'm just saying not to be mean just saying
@Blasty4014 You see Anakin get his lower half melted off by lava. How did he survive? As for falling down a "giant shaft," Luke fell down a similar pit on Bespin and survived.
Now it shouldn't be any surprise to you when it's revealed that Maul's upper half was recovered after Ep. I and he was subsequently equipped with robotic legs. Don't buy into the deluded, fanboyish claim that Lucas did a huge injustice and killed Maul, only to now realize his mistake. It's unsubstantiated hogwash.
The only fanboys are the ones who blinding allow this horrible writing to stand.
The problem with thespringheeledjack's comparison, is that WE SAW what happened to Anakin, his legs/arm lopped off, rushed to medical, his life saved.
A DECADE after Maul's death (detailed by writers of F.M/people within Lucas Arts; Lucas himself, "Maul...no purpose after F.M") we are to ASSUME this was all some PLAN. B.S
@willdrake1 Look man, I understand your frusteration, I do. But, you also have to understand the truth. You keep saying that there was no purpose for Maul after TPM and that's why he was "killed." That just isn't the case. FACT - Lucas did intend to have Maul play a larger role. But you have to remember that the story is about Ani, and Lucas had to make necessary changes to facilitate him becoming Vader. That included removing Maul and bringing in Tyranus to usher in the Clone Wars arc.
@willdrake1 Had there been a film between TPM and AOTC, Maul would have most likely stayed in the picture. Unfortunately, it just didn't happen; the rise of Vader took priority, and Lucas needed 2 films to get there. That's just the way it worked out.
@willdrake1 I still do not understand how any of what I've said is news to you. Maul's lack of a definitive death has been a topic of discussion since TPM's release, and talk of his survival and eventual return has been anticipated for just as long. We all knew it! However, Maul is Lucas' character alone, and he had to give the go-ahead for it to happen. The producers of Clone Wars have confimed this in interviews.
Why not just stop the misdirected animosity and be glad that Maul's back?
Just because people in chats have debated Maul's death for a decade doesn't mean he wasn't—according to people within Lucas Arts (Google it) writers/directors of SWFM (Google it) book/comic writers (Google it) Lucas himself: his own admission (Google it)—dead.
A decade without hints/slips/plots and so on, means dead.
I'm not saying there was no purpose, those were Lucas' words; not mine.
Also, as you've said elsewhere, the "IDEA" that perhaps there might have been this other stuff for/about Maul, means he meant more than he actually did; the opposite is infact true. Because all that stuff didn't make the cut, for w/e reason, means Maul didn't play enough of a role to be considered...
What was cut was cut for a reason = didn't happen/doesn't exist.
For TEN YEARS following F.M, Lucas hinted nothing of Maul's "return/survival"
For ten years, anything written about Maul in the SWU was either backstory (created after the fact—many which confuse the finally approved story) or stories that didn't f-up the plot: The issue where Luke fought Maul, was a HALOGRAM; where Vader fought Maul, was a CLONE; the Dark Horse comic where it was the REAL MAUL wasn't considered CANON—source writers of SWFM and L.A people.
Now I agree with @thespringheeledjack about the fact that all of this can be "explained away" but that doesn't mean its good writing, nor does it mean that was the "plan" all along, cause clearly it wasn't. We see the push from Hasbro for Maul, we see Maul's ranking in overall Star Wars characters (highest from new movies, very high considering comics/games too) we see the TV push with Maul. WE see fans wanting Maul back—hence the new stories about his "brothers"
@willdrake1 The only reason Maul has come to promenance in marketing is because he's a COOL LOOKING character; it has nothing to do with any of his other merits. This is a fundamental marketing ploy; same reason Vader appeared so often in adverts.
My "explaining away" was for your benefit. Those of us who've been around long enough know that Maul's survival is not old news. You are correct about the "brothers" backstory being new; as Maul had no background when he originally appeared in TPM.
People who want Maul to live, are willing to let Lucas get away with/say anything; they don't demand consistency or depth of character—they can die and come back, be rewritten, resurrected from story-boards that were erased for a reason or scenes never shot on purpose.
And the funny thing is, Maul is only being brought back so what...he can die again?
@willdrake1 Yeah. I know people in real life survive being cut in half, but his case was a bit different. Also, it's sort of believable since he fell in water that was beneath the shaft.
why do people like maul? HE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING IN THE MOVIE. all he did was stand and walk around menacingly, not speak, jump around acrobatically and kill qui gon, but what makes this card board cut out "badass" other than his looks? what did he accomplish? sure he looked evil but what did he do? lucas knows he screwed up thats why he's shoe horned in pointlessly for fan service in any given media be it comics, games, etc.
This just further proves how horrible a writer Lucas is.
He killed off Maul, everyone knew it was a horrible idea.
Time passed, Maul's popularity continued; he showed up in books/comics (the one with the legs no cannon for the longest time)
Then Lucas spit-up Mauls brothers and back-story as a way to correct his plot hole; but that wasn't good enough, now he's gone full "AHAHA, bet you didn't see this shit coming did you; MAUL'S ALIVE!" and everyone's like: WTF?
@willdrake1 Dude quit ur trolling and gather ur facts before u even think of trolling Maul survived his duel with Kenobi the episode is going to explain how he survived and how he got his prosthetic lower half of his body
@SSJ6shadowGoku I AGREE! He must get off on being a giant pain in the ass. He, along with all these other fanboys hopelessly cling to the horrible injustice Lucas did when he "killed" Maul, when in truth Lucas never intended Maul to be dead. Maul was meant to have been reconstructed by Sidious in Ep. I, but he was ultimately nixed in order to facillitate the treachery of Dooku and the rise of Vader. Maul's return in CW is just proof of all the rumors of his survival that circulated so long ago.
Think all you want, give all this foresight credit to Lucas who doesn't deserve it; cause the fact is, MAUL was never to come back. It was an idea that got SHOT DOWN. Directors and writers closest to Lucas even said so after MAUL WAS KILLED. Years later, with the many chances they had, HE WAS NEVER BROUGHT BACK; and in the one story by Dark Horse comics, it wasn't even considered CANNON by Lucas or those tied to him.
@willdrake1 The Expanded Universe started with this idea not Lucas Darth Maul existed up to Luke Skywalker's reformed Jedi Order until he is killed for good by Skywalker Lucas is bringing back Maul in his work to explain his survival
You can't write-in/effect/change the "Expanded Universe" without Lucas' OK.
Issue #17: The "thing" Luke destroys, isn't Maul, but a solid hologram (whatever that b.s is) Issue #19, a young Darth Vader fights/kills Maul, which is a clone recreated by a cult—both "maul's" don't alter/fuck up the main plot, which up-until now, was that Maul DIED by Obi Wan. Its why the story in Dark Horse with the robot legs wasn't considered canon; that idea really changed things
@willdrake1 luke destroyed a holo created using Mauls brain retard therefore Maul still existed Darth Vader defeated a doppleganger not a clone theres a difference between a doppleganger and a clone believe it or not Maul survived his bisection using the force like what Vader did after being immolated he was eventually found and given a prosthetic lower body and set out to find Kenobi for revenge but to no avail nearly going insane until Savage finds him in "Brothers" which will air in March
Retard? You with the longest run-on, incoherent sentence ever.
1) Creating a holo from brain-stuff, which could've been scrapped off the bottom of the tube from that death-fall, or from the side of it as the dead-weight dropped, doesn't prove anything. It certainly doesn't prove Maul was "alive" when the sample was taken.
Also, nowhere I looked said the holo came from Maul's brain: cite plz.
2) Correct, a clone is a bio replica and a doppelganger is an "EVIL" replica/spirit/version of that person—see the deff; so would a Sith have an extra-evil replica? I doubt it. Cite the word doppelganger in the Vader story, then perhaps we can argue that the writer meant Clone (which most often is the case) since doppelganger would be dumb if the writer meant the actual meaning of the word.
@willdrake1 wrong a Doppleganger is a double of someone almost like a clone Maul's doppleganger was created using Maul's DNA a Dark Side Cult used Sith Alchemy to "revive" him. Maul wasnt cloned even though they used his DNA because they didnt use genetic engineering thats what a clone is a identical double of someone created through the use of DNA genetic engineering the Cult used Sith sorcery to remake him
Dude! Look up the def of Doppleganger (See: Evil replica/spirit/version of that person) MAUL WAS A CLONE, cause to make an evil version of a sith, is stupid. Yes, they used "magic/Force..w/e" to bring him back, but that doesn't matter since Doppleganger (here: Clone/Doppleganger often interchangeable) is to mean CLONE—and no, it doesn't have to be through Gen Eng, though you could say they achieved that without tec, because of their "powers."
3) As I pointed out to @spring-Jak; we SAW what happened to Vader...we SAW him get saved by a medical team...we SAW him get put back together with the SWtec/healing *non Jedi humans living well into their hundreds; force-users unknown.
We saw all that in a relative short period of time, so don't try and compare that to the WHAT IF scenario that's now being whipped up A DECADE AFTER THE FACT for Maul—its possible, its just bad backwards storytelling.
@willdrake1 You're absolutely right, the comic featuring Maul with prosthetic legs is not canon; I for one never claimed it as such. It was however inspired by an omitted scene from the Ep. I script (which you do not believe in). I was simply using it as an example that Maul's survival is OLD NEWS. Do you not find it ironic that Maul is now officially alive and returning in a fashion that many of us knew was a possibility more than a decade ago? Your head's in your ass bro, time to pull it out.
With all the books, comics, magazines, interviews and this new TV series, up until now, there was never EVEN THE HINT or suggestion that MAUL would ever, EVER return. Lucas even admitted he didn't have plans for Maul after Ep1. This plan wasn't in the works for the last ten years. This just kinda happened cause of the fans. SO Lucas is given a chance to fix his mistake. Period.
Lastly, Omitted scenes in movies are done so for a reason.
It was never put back, it was never explained into anything else; it was never made apart of the cannon Lore; it was never put into later DVD movies and so on.
STAR WARS said MAUL DIED!
This wasn't omitted cause it was simply a needless extra scene, it was omitted cause what it would mean; the consequences.
Fans who think Maul survived, up until Lucas' now reversal of his idea for ($) are wrong.
@willdrake1 what about boba fett? star wars said he died until lucas realised how much the fans loved him and decided to bring him back. this is the same thing but maul also apparently has a key role in beginning anakins fall to the darkside. stop fucking complaining it's a good thing he's back not a bad thing
I'm not saying I wanted Maul to die; I liked Maul, I've pointed out Maul was the best thing to happen to this new series: his merchandize sales, his place in popularity, what hasbro said about him, fan love and so on.
I don't care what Lucas does, but I want people to know this Wasn't the Plan.
Lucas fucked up and after A DECADE is fixing it, which is worse than what he did to Fet.
@willdrake1 LOL. You're still on this huh? Get this through your head: Maul was cut in half and fell down the shaft. No official source has ever confirmed him as dead! Anakin met a similar fate, as his lower half was melted off by lava, and SURPRISE! HE DIDN'T DIE EITHER!
You know absolutely nothing of Lucas' "plan," and you can't seem to listen to reason. Just an ignorant trolling fanboy who can't accept the truth.
1 Vader was the starting point; everyone knew whatever happened to Anakin, no matter what would = Vader (the problem with starting at story at the end or middle) so no surprise there.
2 Vader lost his legs and his arms...not his spine; yes he was burned, but a (filmed) medic team saved his life.
3 Thinking Maul could survive this (crawl to safety or w/e), is to take the Black Knight in Monty Python's "The Holy Grail" seriously.
Because Lucas was too retarded to realize that Maul was the only good thing about tpm and was the coolest villain in the prequels but no, he had to bring in grampa Dooku and Grievous both of which, sucked. To stir the pot on Maul's movie death, Obi Wan used the force to momentarily paralyze Maul so he could chop him in half.
How did Sideous not realize Maul's body was never recovered.
How wasn't his presence ever felt by other Jedi or Sith there after?
The scope of this crap is unbelievable!
I'm sorry Gorge, you had your chance and you fucked it up; live with it, don't try and bring him back cause years later you've finally realized it was a bad idea—as if you intended this b.s all along.
@willdrake1 Lol. In a scene cut from the Ep. I script (which you don't believe in), Sidious was to recover Maul's upper half (much like he did with Anakin), and was to be shown having him fitted with bionic legs. It was meant to foreshadow what would eventually happen with Vader. However, it was cut after Lucas resolved that Ep. II would take place so much later than Ep. I, and that Maul's relevance would be questionable.
Maul was never dead, and his Clone Wars return now proves it as so.
I'm sorry, I'm just not of the opinion that you can use recent developments to justify or reexplain events from a decade ago.
Anything that might've been filmed or intended went out the window with the final reel and the tons of time later, after the fact, which Lucas could've used to show, through books, comics, magazines, interviews and so on, that he had plans for Maul all along; which he admittedly didn't, until recently.
@TRE1275 Dooku was a seasoned Jedi master, and was learned in the dark side to boot. He was instrumental in the initiation of the Clone War, and served as the catalyst for Anakin to embrace anger and the dark side. He was more powerful than Maul, ten fold. I do agree that Greivous was lame; more of a pointless testament to CGI than a legitimate character.
@TRE1275 In regards to Obi Wan paralyzing Maul - I'd like to know where you got that from. It's not at all evident in the film, nor is it in the Ep. I script or the novelization. In truth, Obi was enraged by Qui Gon's felling and attempted to overpower Maul with his anger, which failed. In the final moments of the battle, Obi realized his mistake and let go of his anger, gaining the focus that Qui Gon had been trying to teach him the whole time. It allowed him to easily defeat Maul.
thank god he's back he was the best part of the phantom menace he shouldn't have died he was so cool an george was like nooooo he has to die but you know that he will be back and i hope he will be awesome like the phantom menace and not ruin his character in the clone wars
@DarthMaul1888 Maul was never officially dead, but beyond that, he's returning as an amnesic, emaciated, multipedal cyborg. I honestly hope that it's a great comeback, but I can't help but see several ways that it could end up being less than gratifying.
I cannot believe so many people are still saying "I can't believe they killed him in the first place." Darth Maul was never oficially dead - and no official source has ever said that he was. His return as a cyborg has been portrayed in the EU before, as well as in concept art.
No one was surprised that Anakin returned after greivous injury as Darth Vader, why are people surprised that Maul is returning in a similar fashion?
Lucas had intended to set Ep. II only a few years after Ep. I, focusing on Anakin's development as a Padwan and Obi Wan's struggles as a master, with the cyborg Maul to return as an antagonist. After Lucas resolved to set Ep. II so much later and skip to the beginning of the Clone Wars, Maul's involvement became irrelevant, and it conflicted with Anakin's path to becoming Vader. Hence, his role was removed.
His back story never existed until recently. HE didn't have brothers.
Come on, just Google Maul; you will see that the little back story that was later created for him, was conflicting. That until the Clone Wars cartoon, some argued it wasn't cannon.
This is a character, much like Bubba Fet, which is being brought back for $ and so Lucas can save face vs that horrible choice.
The writers/directors of Ep 1 when he was cut down, said, through that, George was saying MAUL WAS DEAD.
The fact that the one time when Maul was brought back in the flesh through comics, Lucas and Star Wars said IT WASN'T CANNON.
So there's two right there, saying MAUL was dead; until now $, Lucas admitted he didn't have plans for Maul after Ep 1; no back story, no family, no planet, no brothers. NOTHING.
Yes, but that means that the production team is not creative if they have to bring sith lord from episode 1. In my opinion, there should be other villains. He should have died. They are just using his charachter for the fans.
Kind of stupid of Filoni that he decided to bring Maul back. I mean, he was cut in half, he fell like a kilometer below and he is still alive.....pathetic...
Darth Maul is the only reason I still watch Episode I, he could have made II and III a whole lot better too. Like it would have been cool to see Grievous fight Maul.
Just enjoy the show that it

How exactly can you survive being cut in half and thrown down the deepest pit I've ever seen? Obi-Wan didn't just cut off his legs, he cut him IN HALF! The only reason why his guts didn't fall out was that the movie was rated PG.

@matman000000 IT wasn't just any pit either, It was a reactor so it was most likely filled with some type of waste that would kill him or burn him.
MrRawrNugget 1 week ago
@matman000000 Because do you remember when Darth Sidious told Anakin about a sith lord who was soo powerful he could stop others from dying, but could'nt save himself? His apprenticed killed him at night while he was sleeping and the apprentice was Sidious and he learned how to cheat death and he taught Darth Maul how to do so.
MJfan391 3 days ago
@matman000000 Hey, if Anakin can survive getting his arm and both legs chopped off as well as being burned alive, I think Darth Maul can survive being cut in half
UltraRenegade 2 days ago
@UltraRenegade You can easily survive a cut-off limb, especially if the wound is burned, which stops the bleeding. Also, Anakin got medical care almost immediately. Darth Maul was cut in half, that means his organs, necessary for his life, were damaged and there was nothing to keep them in the body, and he fell into a deep pit, probably a cooling shaft of the reactor, and he didn't get any medical care.
matman000000 1 day ago
@matman000000 no. because the lightsaber cauterizes wounds when cut.

@CGoddard1993 It's not just about his minimal chances of surviving, it's about a good storyline. This reincarnation of characters makes no sense, it's like from some dumb soap opera. If they wanted to make a story about Darth Maul, they shouldn't had killed him in the first place.

@MirtaGevFett I agree with you completely (although Quinlan is suppose to act like that, but a little less goofy). They have ruined a bit, or "retconned". I still accept this is canon and is good, at times. (Even Piell dying, I hated)

you are probably about to check wookiepedia to find out what happenes to him, so i'll save you the time here.

@RogueScholarBlue Is tha the one where it shows a iery planet and you hear him laughing and he sais "JEDI!!!!"
godzillafan452 3 weeks ago
@godzillafan452 Correct. I think that's the first time *anything* in Star Wars, and especially for The Clone Wars, has ever scared the poop out of me. They way you hear him crying, then laughing, then barking, then screaming, then it cuts to the, "JEDI!!!" It's almost like he's in Hell.
RogueScholarBlue 3 weeks ago
@RogueScholarBlue A great little snippet; gives you an idead what he'll be like now that he's lost his mind. I'm not digging Witwer as his VA though; frankly, I've heard enough of his whining in the Force Unleashed games, so I'm not looking forward to the same from Maul. Also, his voice is not nearly as sinister sounding as Park's in Ep. I. They got Liam Neeson to reprise Qui Gon in the show, I wonder why they didn't get Park now that Maul finally returns. Still, looking forward to this!
thespringheeledjack 3 weeks ago
@thespringheeledjack Park didn't voice Maul (for good reason) in Phantom Menace, that was Peter Serafinowicz, who, if you've ever heard him speak normally, doesn't sound all that menacing. Sam's done a lot more then Starkiller in TFU. Aside from voicing Emperor Palpatine in the same game, he was also the voice of Son from Season 3's Mortis Trilogy; if you listen he does, perhaps, 3 voices in that one character. Coupled with his work on Being Human, sinister comes easy.

Die hard fans don't care about that stuff, they know killing Maul off in the first place was the worst idea ever and they're glad Lucas finally got around to admitting it—by bringing him back.
They don't care that Maul was written off; they don't care that Lucas didn't have a back story—each slightly different—till other authors (comics/books) got the approval; until the cartoon "made up" the brother/planet/night sisters stuff: none of which existed at the time of P.M

ginko27 3 weeks ago

Blasty4014 4 weeks ago
@Blasty4014 You see Anakin get his lower half melted off by lava. How did he survive? As for falling down a "giant shaft," Luke fell down a similar pit on Bespin and survived.
Now it shouldn't be any surprise to you when it's revealed that Maul's upper half was recovered after Ep. I and he was subsequently equipped with robotic legs. Don't buy into the deluded, fanboyish claim that Lucas did a huge injustice and killed Maul, only to now realize his mistake. It's unsubstantiated hogwash.
thespringheeledjack 3 weeks ago
@thespringheeledjack
willdrake1 2 weeks ago
@willdrake1 Look man, I understand your frusteration, I do. But, you also have to understand the truth. You keep saying that there was no purpose for Maul after TPM and that's why he was "killed." That just isn't the case. FACT - Lucas did intend to have Maul play a larger role. But you have to remember that the story is about Ani, and Lucas had to make necessary changes to facilitate him becoming Vader. That included removing Maul and bringing in Tyranus to usher in the Clone Wars arc.
thespringheeledjack 2 weeks ago
@willdrake1 Had there been a film between TPM and AOTC, Maul would have most likely stayed in the picture. Unfortunately, it just didn't happen; the rise of Vader took priority, and Lucas needed 2 films to get there. That's just the way it worked out.
thespringheeledjack 2 weeks ago
@willdrake1 I still do not understand how any of what I've said is news to you. Maul's lack of a definitive death has been a topic of discussion since TPM's release, and talk of his survival and eventual return has been anticipated for just as long. We all knew it! However, Maul is Lucas' character alone, and he had to give the go-ahead for it to happen. The producers of Clone Wars have confimed this in interviews.
Why not just stop the misdirected animosity and be glad that Maul's back?
thespringheeledjack 2 weeks ago
@thespringheeledjack
Rumors don't mean anything.
No prior created history, means dead.
The fans brought Maul back to life, not Lucas.
willdrake1 2 weeks ago
@thespringheeledjack
What was cut was cut for a reason = didn't happen/doesn't exist.

willdrake1 2 weeks ago
@Blasty4014
Continued:
For TEN YEARS following F.M, Lucas hinted nothing of Maul's "return/survival"
For ten years, anything written about Maul in the SWU was either backstory (created after the fact—many which confuse the finally approved story) or stories that didn't f-up the plot: The issue where Luke fought Maul, was a HALOGRAM; where Vader fought Maul, was a CLONE; the Dark Horse comic where it was the REAL MAUL wasn't considered CANON—source writers of SWFM and L.A people.
willdrake1 2 weeks ago
@Blasty4014
Its $
willdrake1 2 weeks ago
@willdrake1 The only reason Maul has come to promenance in marketing is because he's a COOL LOOKING character; it has nothing to do with any of his other merits. This is a fundamental marketing ploy; same reason Vader appeared so often in adverts.
My "explaining away" was for your benefit. Those of us who've been around long enough know that Maul's survival is not old news. You are correct about the "brothers" backstory being new; as Maul had no background when he originally appeared in TPM.
thespringheeledjack 2 weeks ago
If Darth Maul got cut in half and survived, then I demand a "Head of Count Dooku" trilogy!
CPenha 4 weeks ago
@CPenha
Thank you!
Cause this makes about as much sense.
People who want Maul to live, are willing to let Lucas get away with/say anything; they don't demand consistency or depth of character—they can die and come back, be rewritten, resurrected from story-boards that were erased for a reason or scenes never shot on purpose.
And the funny thing is, Maul is only being brought back so what...he can die again?
willdrake1 4 weeks ago
@willdrake1 Yeah. I know people in real life survive being cut in half, but his case was a bit different. Also, it's sort of believable since he fell in water that was beneath the shaft.
CPenha 4 weeks ago
why do people like maul? HE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING IN THE MOVIE. all he did was stand and walk around menacingly, not speak, jump around acrobatically and kill qui gon, but what makes this card board cut out "badass" other than his looks? what did he accomplish? sure he looked evil but what did he do? lucas knows he screwed up thats why he's shoe horned in pointlessly for fan service in any given media be it comics, games, etc.
EclipseHedgehog 4 weeks ago
This just further proves how horrible a writer Lucas is.
He killed off Maul, everyone knew it was a horrible idea.
Time passed, Maul's popularity continued; he showed up in books/comics (the one with the legs no cannon for the longest time)
Then Lucas spit-up Mauls brothers and back-story as a way to correct his plot hole; but that wasn't good enough, now he's gone full "AHAHA, bet you didn't see this shit coming did you; MAUL'S ALIVE!" and everyone's like: WTF?
willdrake1 1 month ago
@willdrake1 Dude quit ur trolling and gather ur facts before u even think of trolling Maul survived his duel with Kenobi the episode is going to explain how he survived and how he got his prosthetic lower half of his body
SSJ6shadowGoku 1 month ago
@SSJ6shadowGoku I AGREE! He must get off on being a giant pain in the ass. He, along with all these other fanboys hopelessly cling to the horrible injustice Lucas did when he "killed" Maul, when in truth Lucas never intended Maul to be dead. Maul was meant to have been reconstructed by Sidious in Ep. I, but he was ultimately nixed in order to facillitate the treachery of Dooku and the rise of Vader. Maul's return in CW is just proof of all the rumors of his survival that circulated so long ago.
thespringheeledjack 4 weeks ago
@thespringheeledjack
He's doing this to fix his mistake.
willdrake1 4 weeks ago
@SSJ6shadowGoku
I'm sure it will explain away all the b.s, but that doesn't excuse what Lucas is doing.
willdrake1 4 weeks ago
@willdrake1 The Expanded Universe started with this idea not Lucas Darth Maul existed up to Luke Skywalker's reformed Jedi Order until he is killed for good by Skywalker Lucas is bringing back Maul in his work to explain his survival
SSJ6shadowGoku 3 weeks ago
@SSJ6shadowGoku
Its why the story in Dark Horse with the robot legs wasn't considered canon; that idea really changed things
willdrake1 3 weeks ago

Also, nowhere I looked said the holo came from Maul's brain: cite plz.
willdrake1 2 weeks ago
@SSJ6shadowGoku
Continued:
2) Correct, a clone is a bio replica and a doppelganger is an "EVIL" replica/spirit/version of that person—see the deff; so would a Sith have an extra-evil replica? I doubt it. Cite the word doppelganger in the Vader story, then perhaps we can argue that the writer meant Clone (which most often is the case) since doppelganger would be dumb if the writer meant the actual meaning of the word.
willdrake1 2 weeks ago
@willdrake1 wrong a Doppleganger is a double of someone almost like a clone Maul's doppleganger was created using Maul's DNA a Dark Side Cult used Sith Alchemy to "revive" him. Maul wasnt cloned even though they used his DNA because they didnt use genetic engineering thats what a clone is a identical double of someone created through the use of DNA genetic engineering the Cult used Sith sorcery to remake him

@SSJ6shadowGoku
Dude! Look up the def of Doppleganger (See: Evil replica/spirit/version of that person) MAUL WAS A CLONE, cause to make an evil version of a sith, is stupid. Yes, they used "magic/Force..w/e" to bring him back, but that doesn't matter since Doppleganger (here: Clone/Doppleganger often interchangeable) is to mean CLONE—and no, it doesn't have to be through Gen Eng, though you could say they achieved that without tec, because of their "powers."
willdrake1 2 weeks ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@SSJ6shadowGoku
Inorder to say that Maul was truly a Doppelganger, you will have to prove:
1) It was more evil than the 1st (Evil, the opposite of the person, a key element with any Doppelganger.)
2) The author didn't use the word as a sub for Clone—though clearly he meant clone, but was using Doppelganger for a bit of creative flavor.
Lastly, since you admit they used his DNA, proves it wasn't the ORIG Maul, which was the point in the first place. So it didn't f-up the plot.
willdrake1 2 weeks ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@SSJ6shadowGoku
3) As I pointed out to @spring-Jak; we SAW what happened to Vader...we SAW him get saved by a medical team...we SAW him get put back together with the SWtec/healing *non Jedi humans living well into their hundreds; force-users unknown.
We saw all that in a relative short period of time, so don't try and compare that to the WHAT IF scenario that's now being whipped up A DECADE AFTER THE FACT for Maul—its possible, its just bad backwards storytelling.
willdrake1 2 weeks ago
@willdrake1 You're absolutely right, the comic featuring Maul with prosthetic legs is not canon; I for one never claimed it as such. It was however inspired by an omitted scene from the Ep. I script (which you do not believe in). I was simply using it as an example that Maul's survival is OLD NEWS. Do you not find it ironic that Maul is now officially alive and returning in a fashion that many of us knew was a possibility more than a decade ago? Your head's in your ass bro, time to pull it out.
thespringheeledjack 4 weeks ago
@thespringheeledjack
MORE THAN A DECADE ago, is right.
A DECADE!
Period.
willdrake1 4 weeks ago
@thespringheeledjack
Fans who think Maul survived, up until Lucas' now reversal of his idea for ($) are wrong.
willdrake1 4 weeks ago
@willdrake1 what about boba fett? star wars said he died until lucas realised how much the fans loved him and decided to bring him back. this is the same thing but maul also apparently has a key role in beginning anakins fall to the darkside. stop fucking complaining it's a good thing he's back not a bad thing

@Scuzzz
ITS BAD WRITING!
ITS BAD STORY TELLING!
If you kill a character, HE DIES!
Lucas fucked up and after A DECADE is fixing it, which is worse than what he did to Fet.
willdrake1 4 weeks ago
@willdrake1 LOL. You're still on this huh? Get this through your head: Maul was cut in half and fell down the shaft. No official source has ever confirmed him as dead! Anakin met a similar fate, as his lower half was melted off by lava, and SURPRISE! HE DIDN'T DIE EITHER!
You know absolutely nothing of Lucas' "plan," and you can't seem to listen to reason. Just an ignorant trolling fanboy who can't accept the truth.

@thespringheeledjack
Are you serious?
1 Vader was the starting point; everyone knew whatever happened to Anakin, no matter what would = Vader (the problem with starting at story at the end or middle) so no surprise there.
2 Vader lost his legs and his arms...not his spine; yes he was burned, but a (filmed) medic team saved his life.
3 Thinking Maul could survive this (crawl to safety or w/e), is to take the Black Knight in Monty Python's "The Holy Grail" seriously.
willdrake1 3 weeks ago
Because Lucas was too retarded to realize that Maul was the only good thing about tpm and was the coolest villain in the prequels but no, he had to bring in grampa Dooku and Grievous both of which, sucked. To stir the pot on Maul's movie death, Obi Wan used the force to momentarily paralyze Maul so he could chop him in half.
TRE1275 1 month ago
@TRE1275
I love this horrible writing.
How did he survive?
How did he escape?
How did Sideous not realize Maul's body was never recovered.
How wasn't his presence ever felt by other Jedi or Sith there after?
The scope of this crap is unbelievable!
I'm sorry Gorge, you had your chance and you fucked it up; live with it, don't try and bring him back cause years later you've finally realized it was a bad idea—as if you intended this b.s all along.
willdrake1 1 month ago
@willdrake1 Lol. In a scene cut from the Ep. I script (which you don't believe in), Sidious was to recover Maul's upper half (much like he did with Anakin), and was to be shown having him fitted with bionic legs. It was meant to foreshadow what would eventually happen with Vader. However, it was cut after Lucas resolved that Ep. II would take place so much later than Ep. I, and that Maul's relevance would be questionable.
Maul was never dead, and his Clone Wars return now proves it as so.

@thespringheeledjack

I do agree that Greivous was lame; more of a pointless testament to CGI than a legitimate character.
thespringheeledjack 4 weeks ago
@TRE1275 In regards to Obi Wan paralyzing Maul - I'd like to know where you got that from. It's not at all evident in the film, nor is it in the Ep. I script or the novelization. In truth, Obi was enraged by Qui Gon's felling and attempted to overpower Maul with his anger, which failed. In the final moments of the battle, Obi realized his mistake and let go of his anger, gaining the focus that Qui Gon had been trying to teach him the whole time. It allowed him to easily defeat Maul.

So the dark side truly is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be...unnatural

DarthMaul1888 1 month ago
@DarthMaul1888 Maul was never officially dead, but beyond that, he's returning as an amnesic, emaciated, multipedal cyborg. I honestly hope that it's a great comeback, but I can't help but see several ways that it could end up being less than gratifying.

DarthMaul1888 1 month ago
I cannot believe so many people are still saying "I can't believe they killed him in the first place." Darth Maul was never oficially dead - and no official source has ever said that he was. His return as a cyborg has been portrayed in the EU before, as well as in concept art.
No one was surprised that Anakin returned after greivous injury as Darth Vader, why are people surprised that Maul is returning in a similar fashion?
thespringheeledjack 1 month ago
@thespringheeledjack
Your an idiot to compare Vader's back story to the likelihood that Maul died.
MAUL DIED!
Then Lucas realized he fucked up and slowly but surely has found a way to fix his mistake.
willdrake1 1 month ago
@thespringheeledjack i'm not i know about his cyber legs and wondered why he didn't appear in the second film or the third film
DarthMaul1888 1 month ago
@DarthMaul1888 Lol. See @willdrake1? I'm not the only one. :)
Hence, his role was removed.
thespringheeledjack 4 weeks ago
@thespringheeledjack
@DarthMaul1888 is right. He was POINTLESS.
He almost didn't even need a name.
His back story never existed until recently. HE didn't have brothers.
Come on, just Google Maul; you will see that the little back story that was later created for him, was conflicting. That until the Clone Wars cartoon, some argued it wasn't cannon.
This is a character, much like Bubba Fet, which is being brought back for $ and so Lucas can save face vs that horrible choice.
willdrake1 4 weeks ago
@thespringheeledjack
Not true. Official sources did say he was dead.
NOTHING.
willdrake1 4 weeks ago
@willdrake1 PROVE IT!!! You have an example direct from the sources mouth? Let's see it!!!

Yes, but that means that the production team is not creative if they have to bring sith lord from episode 1. In my opinion, there should be other villains. He should have died. They are just using his charachter for the fans.
hix1923 1 month ago
Kind of stupid of Filoni that he decided to bring Maul back. I mean, he was cut in half, he fell like a kilometer below and he is still alive.....pathetic...
hix1923 1 month ago
@hix1923 so? other sith have returned from worse. plus he gets sucked into an air vent and that's what helps save him

Darth Maul is the only reason I still watch Episode I, he could have made II and III a whole lot better too. Like it would have been cool to see Grievous fight Maul.
