Wonderful, I have listened to your beautiful version a million times it seems to me and never get tired. You played it so emotionally and softly,... it is beautiful.
I love this song its sooooo touching and beautiful to listen to! I have sang this song before and have been trying to listen to the piano peice for a long time. Thank you for putting this on youtube! :D
This glorious playing really transcends a "musical performance" in the usual sense of the phrase. I return to it again and again with pleasure. What a pity, however, that the pianist's hands and the sound are not synchronised in this video.
actually it is. he wrote it for his wife to sing to him on his death bed. i'm assuming Stölzel arranged this particular piece for piano since the melody is originally meant to be sung.
Bach didn't compose it! He just copied it into is "Notenbüchlein für Anna Magdalena Bach". The arrangement wasn't made by Bach too. You can find it in modern editions of the Notenbüchlein.
The bass accompaniment differs from Stoelzel's and may have been supplied by Bach or Anna Magdalena.
The copy in the notebook is actually in her hand. In an essay in the Bach Jahrbuch 2002, Andreas Gloeckner speculates that either she obtained the song from the inventory of the Leipzig Opera that had gone bankrupt in 1720, or that it simply was a favorite known to nearly everybody in Leipzig that was particularly suitable for "Hausmusik".
This song was once attributed to Bach because it appears in a music notebook he started for his wife, Anna Magdalena, in 1725. The entry is in her hand & includes just the melody & bass line heard here (but not the inner parts), and the text.
But the text and melody are actually from an aria from the 1713 opera "Diomedes, or the Triumph of Innocence" by G.H. Stoelzel.
The bass line, which differs from that in Stoelzel's aria, might have been supplied by Bach or his wife.
Thanks, dude! You have a great sense of appreciation of true music. It doesn't matter if Bach wrote this himself, or the other guy Stölzel, what matters here is that even after all those centuries, we are still being touched by this wonderful music. Thanks again, Peter, you could not have worded it any better. And thank you, Svetla, you will always remain in my favourite list.

Nicely played! And nice European sound to the piano.
Is the piano a Bosendorfer? a Petrof? If you know, please respond and tell us how it can be identified.
