  • NIce how far were you shooting? def have to pick a Garand and btw great backround music \m/ AC/DC owns.

  • This was a 200 yard match and I didn't do too hot that day. It was my first time ever firing a Garand, and it wasn't even mine, it was the property of my gun club. Still a great time! I got a CMP Garand coming in the mail soon, so look out for more Garand videos!

AC/DC is my favorite band, and they go along well with shooting, so it was a natural choice.

  • Yes AC/DC does loland congrats on the cmp Garand i heard they are really nice. I wish i could get one but im not a vet lol but ill look around on gunbroker :)

  • Well you don't have to be military-affiliated. The requirements are:

-Be legally allowed to own a firearm

    -Be at least 18

-Be able to prove United States Citizenship

    -Be a member of a CMP-affiliated club

    -Show evidence of "firearms activity."

A clean record takes care of #1, and a social security card or birth certificate take care of #2 and 3. There are a load of affiliated clubs you can join, many you can join online, and match results or a safety course takes care of number 5.

  • @Mr2ndAmendment I thought you had to be a part of the NRA to be in the CMP

  • @planb1532190

You don't join the CMP, you just order rifles through them. The NRA does count as one of the qualifications of ownership but you don't have to be in the NRA to get a CMP rifle, a local shooting club will do.

  • After faxing or mailing this information off to the CMP, they will contact you and it'll go from there. It could take up to 90 days to get your Garand, but usually it takes about a month or so from what I've heard. I'm sure it takes a little work getting everything together if you don't have a military ID (which kills all requirements) but it's worth it. You can't find a Garand for that cheap with that genuine quality anywhere. Vids will be up when it comes in!

  • does the wood around the barrel interferre drastically with accuracy since its not free floating?

  • Actually it kind of is in a sense. The metal ring on the upper hand guard snaps into cuts made into the barrel, and the end of the wood fits into the ring in the middle of the stock. It's hard for me to describe, but John Garand designed it so that the wood wasn't touching the barrel, even though it looks like it. That's one of the reasons why the M1 is known for great accuracy.
