yes i did & see & hear that , but topper went 1st & that's when the writing was on the wall, i'm not going to argue over the internet, but toppers sacking caused the ramifications . where did you see the clash ? wipeout live weren't they
@goonchistaw I saw 'The Clash' three times and 'Joe Strummer And The Mescaleros' once, and I,ve actually had a few jars with Mick Jones and saw him on a daily basis. If you had seen the interview Joe did on ABC television you would have heard him say "sacking Mick Jones) was the worst thing I ever did".
I was at this gig in the summer of 1978. White Man had just been released. They were supported by the Special AKA (became the Specials) and by Suicide. The filming delayed the start by about two hours so the concert didn't actually finish till about 2am, and they closed with an encore of this same song with guest appearances from Steve Jones of the Pistols and Jimmy Pursey from Sham 69. I was 17 and I wont forget that night, even though it was 32 years ago. I was on the stairs on the left.
I don't know why, but I get emotional when I listen to Complete Control too, especially live. What a great band. Tons of energy. It's the Punk Anthem.
I wasn't at that gig but I saw others in '78 and beyond. You never felt as though you were the audience - we were all in it together - the band, the punks...so much more real than the shite we'd had to put up with before.
by the time pistols were gone, ramones were unknown,....but `clash energy was bigger than any rolling beatlemania......later they became the best musical expression in the world!!!
I was there on the steps to the left of the stage, I really was, and it was the most memorable night of my young life.

mick jones @ 20 sex in is worth the admission fee alone !!!!!
but then which one do you look at ????
3 full on assaults with guitars !!!!!
what a band & so glad i saw them
sometimes it's good to have grown up & realise you've seen a band
that millions would love to have seen.
but never got or will get to either.

@goonchistaw
Mick Jones 50% of the 'CLASH'
GreenmanXIV 1 year ago
@GreenmanXIV gotta disagree , you ever see this band live ? i have
& as amazing as mick was & is no way can you say he is 50% of the clash
strummer/jones are unique
so are simonon & headon
4 individual musicians make the clash
100%, joe took nicky out & look what happened ?
he admitted sacking topper was a bad idea
you really didn't know who to try & focus on live
as they were all doing different things very well ....
