What do you have your tracking weight and anti-skate set to? I just picked up one of these today and it sounds great, but I want to make sure I've got the settings right.
biterate @ 128 is terrible. especialy if you play on a large soundsystem or night club. trust me rip your vinyl the traditional way with a good phono preamp & neddles @ WAV format. if you want to convert the WAV files to mp3 use razorlame @ 256kpbs to 320kpbs. and just use itunes to tag your files. it will be more work. but you will be more happy in the long run. :)
Thanks for the info brian. im glad to see the 192 upgrade. 192 is alot better than 128. but im still not sold on the unit due to it not being atleast 256kbps becauce once they do make a uopgrade to 256kpbs (witch they will) i dont want to re-rip my suff agian & agian. ill stick with the traditional hard way. as you said in the newest video update its perfect for those who are not dj's and need a resource to rip their vinyl for them this unit is great.
No, you don't NEED it, but it does make things easier. It's a fact that most DJs don't know how to set thier mixer for live sets let alone recording (look at any DJ's videos on Youtube and see that many clip thier MAIN and PFL constantly. I'm not badmouthing my counterparts, but this is the reality of it). This is pretty much idiot proof
@djalexd07 To be honest that would only work if your turntable has line out built in, if not you would need a preamp and the RIAA EQ, if not it sounds like shit.
i won't go into an explanation as to why a higher bitrate=better sound quality overall, it's too long to explain here, but i will say that noticing the differences depends on a number a variables: 1. your soundcard (sorry built-in pc soundcards won't cut it) 2. your sound system (speakers, amps) 3. the volume at which you play the mp3 file (the higher the volume the easier it is to notice differences. All online mp3 retails sell either 192, 320 or wav. Wonder why no 128? the answer is obvious.
You know who's really good at that? groovindj AKA PAUL on youtube. You should tell him you are intirested in seeing how he filters out pops in vinyl rips.
128 kbps? no thanks. what codec does the TT encode the mp3's with? can the TT's internal mp3 encoder be updated via a USB firmware update to a higher bitrate? also, you mention no software is needed... that is, if you don't want to remove the pops/clicks & silence that is typically undesired.
I think a lot of people are concerned about the sound quality of 128. It's a valid concern, but I thought the rips I did sounded really good. It's a preference thing.
Yeah, for DJing, you gain little, going over 128kbps mp3. IMO you need headphones or a quiet listening environment with good monitors to even hear differences from ~192kbps and up.
about the bitrate ordeal/debate... I would go for 128 kbps if it were ABR. But i think they should consider having a VBR encoding on the deck. Something like 32-192 kbps VBR would be pretty good quality and also wouldn't take up too much space......
Thats a pretty nifty piece of equipment B, I like the idea USB drive connector. Does it also have the facility to connect it straight to a pc via USB? Thanks for the time to demo it mate :D
ah 128kbs... I would have hoped for 320kbs that would be good quality to use. Also that it's belt drive doesn't go for me If I get TT to rip some vinyl I want to be able to play with it too, well you can with belt drive but direct would be the way to go. Anyway good piece for the use except that it only rips 128kbs. Good video.
That's an awesome piece of equipment! I really like the fact that you don't need to hook it up to a computer and do any format converting. I've been using Audacity to rip my vinyl and it takes FOREVER. 128k is adequate, I usually go for 160k, but it doesn't make too much of a difference unless you are playing on a large PA.
320k takes up double space. 128k is CD quality according to most ripping programs. I usually do 160kbps just to be safe. Most people go 192kbps. Anything over 192kbps is overdoing it. I have a full test I did using the same track on my KRK studio monitors.
Thanks for the love? You don't have to get nasty about it, damn. OHH you are SILVER! Now I get it. The guy who only likes 90's house tunes and has to constantly change his user name because everyone blocks you for being a bi-polar freakshow. Guess I'll have to block you again.

Nah, not for me. I'd rather not deal with fuckshows like him at all. It just takes away from time that could have been used for much more constructive tasks.
that's really nice, recording vinyl can be a little tedious if you are doing it solely through software, turntable, and a mixer because of adjusting levels and whatnot. the first time i recorded vinyl, i accidentally didn't switch audacity to stereo, and it wasted a lot of my time haha.
Brian thanks once again. Needed to know if you can use a standard flash drive, instead of the reader/card. I just need to know if it would work with any Flash drive/UBS? I'm assuming it should.
Great vid Brian!! I guess I could add it to my other two AA-TT's I asume I could also tie it into my mixxer and use it right. E-mail me; have other question(s)..
this piece of kit seems like a great buy, but it has a few problems. primarily it has no strobe so if ur planning on buying this i would suggest that u dont, personally i dont know why AA bothered to put a pitch control on it cus u dont know whether or not its working. overall id say bri has it right just buy it for ripping ur vinyl
Yeah it's primarily aimed at people who want to get thier vinyl ripped and less for turntablism. It's more of a consumer product, but could also work well for DJs. I know there are some tracks that I want to bump up the pitch on a bit when I record them. Some of the old DJ International stuff just needs a 2% adjustment for them to sound right to me (probably has something to do with my old TT I had as a kid that played too fast) HA!
Good idea but shame it's only 128kb/s. Most DJs are very fussy about their MP3 bit rates.
What would be great is a similar all-in-one solution for ripping CDs to MP3. Small, self contained and portable so DJs who use MP3 can take it to gigs in case a guest brings a CD.
Like I just told sleeperawaken, it really does sound suprisingly good at 128. Wish I had something I could rip and post for download without getting into trouble so people could check it out.
128... hmmmm but if we play somewhere live would as sound as good as the record itself or atleast of the quality of a 320 mp3? I need my boom boom on mp3s!
I'm running Klipsch speakers and the thump on Jungle Bill was very impressive. I was skeptical myself but it sounds great! It sounded just like it did thru my Technics 1200, Denon DN-X1500S & Shure White Lable needles & carts.
Could you maybe but some audio comparison clips or something up? Would be fun to really hear the difference between the usb-recording quality and quality when recording trought the soundcard input. :)
It's hard to hear on my camera, but I think you are better off doing it this way. When you think about it, it's all internal within the turntable. You don't have to worry about mixer settings or any signal loss thru cabling.
You should suggest to American Audio that they have it record at 256, rather than 128. That will make more people happy. Too many product designers design with "compactness" in mind. Hard drives are dirt cheap, and if needed, a person can always convert a file from 256 down to 128, but you can't convert from 128 to 256 and gain anything from it. Great product, but I strongly think having it rip at atleast 192, and preferrably 256 would have drawn more customers. 5 stars, good review.

im sorry to brake it guys
but you dont need one
just record your vinyl by buying a rca to head phones jack (what fits in your mic input)
then use recording software like audacity
its cheap and not as good as one of those turntables but it works :)
