@madashelldude in case you didn't know, the Marine Corps accounts for only about 5% of the entire defense budget, and this vehicle only accounts for a fraction of that alloted budget. So instead of attacking this vital piece of machinery which will end up saving the lives of Marines and Sailors, think about something else to complain about.
To everyone who's saying this is a waste of money, try finding out WHY research and development is going into this. The vehicle that it is replacing, the AAV, had poor protection that put its passengers in danger. I'm not sure, but I think a marine's life might be worth more than you saving a couple bucks a month. That's just me though.
what a complete waste of taxpayers money. US priorities are so screwed up. this is a country that has no money to educate its population, but it has money to lock up 1 in every 136 of its citizens in jails. It has no money for public healthcare like Japan or EU but its auto makers are going belly up because they can't meet their legacy obligations. Spending this amount of money on a pile of cold war era scrap metal is really an astounding degree of stupidity.
What you and others may or may not realize is that the bailout is going to happen, but they have got to get the best Bang for there buck if you get my drift.
You clearly don't understand how amphibious assault operations are conducted. Your ignorance is astounding. I hope the Marines actually do get this beast working. They've been fighting with the AAV-7A1 for more than 30 years now and are over due a replacement 'Gator. The Marines have always gotten the short end of the stick when it comes to defense appropriations but they still manage to make do.
it's a nice weapon system, but it's time for us to spend less time inventing new ways to kill, and more time working on the things that really matter.
"vital" program? I think that was a poor choice of words at the end of this report...The report makes it seem like the program is anything but vital...
I didn't let the whole video finish when I thought "man I'll bet that this thing has flaws" and later on? It does. A very expensive, flawed death box.
it has flaws but doesnt everything have flaws when your first making it. it never comes out the way you want it the first couple of times. thats why you keep trying to improve it, and you fix those flaws.
new technology is always troublesome. but the payoff will be worth it. the current aav dates back to '72 and can do only 5kts in the water. the new model is better armed and armoured will do 25kts in the water thus allowing faster and safer landings.

what's the difference between this vehicle and that "duck" vehicle that they use for tourists in cities along river fronts? [spelled wrongly, I know]

thing only goes 30mph, like a sitting duck.

30 mph on the water. as fast as a destroyer and faster than any amphibious assault vehicle extent.

Funny how what marines say they need and what they get are usually very different.
Give the marines what they want. They have the first hand experience that the high-throned politicians don't.

I think they should teach our Marines to swim better and how to hold their breath longer. Now thats cheaper!!!

The Marines are at the peak of physical ability, if not almost.
Also, let me know when they're able to run at 30 mph.
