  • where is that footage from? some of the shots make me feel strangely proud to be italian

  • I wish i could describe what this song and Drake particularly make me feel

  • man, i don't known if is about my experience with depression or what... but it's really about what i used to feel like. that's the reason i always cry listening the final lyric of this song

  • Best singer/songwriters are Drake and Dylan. (imo of course)

  • To me, Nick Drake is the epitome of 'a musical being'. Music gurgles out of of him, his voice, his guitar, his shapes and rhythms, as out of a natural spring. He is a wonder. He inspires faith in SIMPLE things.

  • Just amazing!! Good documents to share, thanks...good songs! and originals videos...I would like to know about the right meaning of that images, so mysterious...

  • As a young man when I first heard Nick Drakes music on the el pea sampler I didnt think much cause at that time I was more into hard rock. As a much older man now, I'm glad I rediscovered his music he's one of my favorites now.

  • Usually I don't like the comments dealing with the 'dislikes' (such as '6 people are spoilt by Lady Gaga' etc.) to videos of vintage music tracks. But this time I just have to ask: what's the point in watching a video like this, listening to such a profound, touching music, and then thoughtlessly clicking the 'dislike' button? Why are there people who do that kind of things?

It remains a mistery to me.

  • @PeterSpaeter96 some people are just plain stupid, ignorant, and blindfully idiotic, that i'm thinking only one person who disliked this probably thought, "OMG. Who in the hell thinks they can just rip off John Mayer and get away with this? Like the world needs another singer/guitarist in it...???" DISREGARD the negatives and keep on the positives. Nick was here. And he did amazingly well. :-)

  • too good for words..

  • i want to give him a hug when i hear this. alas, too late.

  • Can somebody tell me where's the video from?

  • This is a beautiful song with lyrics to match and the video is just SO right . . . :)

  • discovering nick is like looking for a pearl in the ocean and then find it

  • I was lucky enough to see him perform this live, which is such a good memory, as you can imagine. kings of convenience have some of the feel and tranquility of nick drake , at their best I think

  • search nicolas and the iceni rowan. they write beautiful folk music which has echoes of denny and drake.

  • Can you all stop arguing. I'm trying to listen to this song.

  • @horsehospital is what you would say if people were speaking and not typing, unless you listen with your eyes.

  • great, buti prefer the mars volta's cover

  • love this video...thank you for posting...tell us more about this film clip...please.

  • where is the video taken from?

  • @Jasoncrets If only you were intelligent enough to have the same opinion as I do.

  • It's too bad he never knew how much his music would mean to people.

  • @jessemaurais I'm not so sure. He knew well that artists like him were only appreciated when they were dead. Evidenced by his song Fruit Tree.

I'd like to think he knew.

  • @OhGodItHurts Spoken by a guy with the name "Oh God it Hurts, stop sticking it up my asshole!" The irony in your name lol.

  • @doughboycod2 irony in your comment, calling me gay for calling something gay.

  • @OhGodItHurts There is nothing wrong with being gay, I am just saying that your name can imply that you like to take it up the ass and say "Oh God it Hurts!" I wouldn't have responded to your comment had your user name not presented such an easy target to make a joke about lol.

  • @OhGodItHurts Hah! this man has true talent. He is an acoustic virtuoso, with his virtuoso right hand finger-picking style.

His beautifully well crafted lyrics are something the likes that you nor any of your favorite artists could ever compare to.

Of course, if you're hating something like this then you probably only listen to Rap and Dubstep.

  • @VincentPrice111 Oh my bad, I forgot your's in the one and only true opinion.

  • @OhGodItHurts It isn't an opinion that he is extremely talented and crafts masterful lyrics. They're obviously well thought out and his delivery is good.

The rest, sure, it may be an opinion but it seems to me that's the kind of shit some one like you would enjoy.

  • I like this a lot

reminds me of porcupine tree for some reason

  • I liked it better when he was Bob Dylan

  • 3 dislikes? :O

  • so ahead of his time..

  • His guitar playing is so good, his singing has that sleepy hazy tone to it that goes well with the quick plucking and the lyrics have this frightening fatalism to them that makes you smile even though things seem so depressing and bleak in Nick's view

  • @ProducShuns His playing is amazing, especially considering the fact that he never overdubbed anything. Everything on this album is done in one take. A few guitar parts are overlaid, if course, but he never used dubbing to correct mistakes. Amazing.

  • @WillBraden what do you mean when you say guitar parts are overlaid - 'of course'? just interested

  • This is... mastery. What a composition. Thanks Nick.

  • Brilliant. Nick Drake makes me weepy

  • me and Nick would be best friends... I'm sorry for keeping that comment for myself, I know many of you would think the same but wouldn't say it due to your humility

  • This is magic. :) :) Thank you. :) :)

  • @Jasoncrets nick drake is no 4th grade writer bitch!

  • He plays the guitar in a very unique way... amazing how he can play and sing so beautifully at once.

  • God this song is moving...

  • Novi Novak? What are you talking about?

  • not to try and offend any fans here, but after listening to the mars volta cover of this and this one. i prefer the former. but a great song none the less.

  • @Jasoncrets: You're obviously kidding. I hope to GOD that you're kidding. Because that is the biggest insult ever spoken to anyone about anything ever in the entire history of spoken words in any language in the entire universe. My 13 year old nephew listens to that crap.

  • with the help of some very far out tunings.. even inspired me to go to town on the old tuning pegs, glad i have - found some proper decent ones.. now i never write 2 songs in the same tuning =D

  • dont know how he did it but he captured autumns vibe in music form

  • sad guy, but when im not feeling great he helps to remind me of good things within life

  • @Artsie1 Good for you, start with Bryter Latyr

  • I only recently discovered Nick Drake. I was sorry to hear he died 35 years ago.

  • 2 dislikes? Seriously?

  • This song (and so many others of Nick's) make me wanna break down and cry, so beautiful, so tragic....R.I.P Nick

  • The ones who die young have the benefit of no one knowing if they would have continued to produce good music or a pile of tosh! Ridiculous to compare him to artists who did live and influence the world.

  • I think if Nick was in a band (and had band mates duh!!?) he would have been a success back in the day. His band mates would have encouraged him to go on to make great music. He would have been like the lead singer of Radio Head who seems to be a very talented tortured soul. Ok I know that last comment is going to start a rant hahahahahah (but who cares it's utube)

  • @fendergambit That's true. I think Thom Yorke is encouraged by the rest of Radiohead.

  • I think Nick Drake is the greatest singer-songwriter who've ever lived on this earth. His stark observations of life seem so true. His view is one-pointed, pessimistic, yet he's the most honest and pure one-pointed musician I've ever heard. If you want to listen to happy truths, then Drake's not the one to listen to.

However I find his melancholic music very soothing somehow.

  • is there any live performances of this genius?

  • @TheDayfornight I was just wondering the same thing.

  • @TheDayfornight I think you can find a live performance of "Day is Done", which is one of my favourites. I did once.

  • @Depechexb cheers i watched a programme about his life and cos there wasnt much footage they had fans cover his songs

  • @TheDayfornight no ... while he was living he did very few live performances in the beginning, then none at all. he was really reserved and didn't like performing.

  • @rushdarussian ....and voted #1 most humble....

  • I've always find it heavily annoying that people always get the lyrics wrong.

It's not Please beware of them that stare they'll only smile to see you 'While' your time away, it's 'Wile" your time away.

The other way it wouldn't make any damn sense.

  • @VincentPrice111 if you do your research in notes and on the lp sleeve he wrote "while" instead of wile. He probably just sang "your time away" cause it sounded better than "your time is away"...

    ...just saying

  • @jbelmain Well that makes a lot less sense.

I figured him to be more the genius than he is, I guess that's my fault, wanted him to be.

  • when i get up and its cloudy or raining,i get out nick drake.its fitting for me.the words, the voice, the guitar, all seem to meld itself into a symphony of melodic despair.this man was genius and has developed a following that grows many times over 36 years after his death.drake is in a class by himself.beatles will always rule, but drake is in a universe all his own.

  • the mars volta did a very good cover

  • No one does introspection quite like Nick.

  • there are many things behind the sun, including Nick

  • I just got Elliot smiths self titled record and all it did was make me want to listen to nick.

    All three albums are perfect.

    Just an amazing man

  • If you are going through a break-up, you HAVE to listen to Nick Drake!

  • I love Elliott Smith.

and I will admit that in every single way Nick Drake beats him probably ten times over, like Smith more for some reason though.

Maybe it's because Drake just doesn't have enough music.

  • The beatles didn't seem to be able to write lyrics as well.

Fuck "We all live in a yellow submarine" the fuck is that.

  • @VincentPrice111 I don't think that is quite fair.Yellow Submarine is the Beatles attempt at humor.Look back at songs like In My Life,Yesterday,For No One,Blackbird,Fool On The Hill,Something,Julia, etc. just to mention a few and you will see great lyrics. Also,Nick had the benefit of being exposed to all the Beatles music by the time his first LP came out.I will agree he is right up there with the Beatles in his lyrics and music. Two of the greatest artists.

  • Ill trade places with nick drake. rip <3

  • Nick Drake is one of the best musicians playing acoustic music

  • nobody can touch drake musicaly or lyricaly, no one b4 no one since.. truley amasing. hairs standing on end an shit.. thank god i found nick or did he find me?

  • in order to callen by the gods and leave this earth at 26 with his music to carry his memory after all these years you know this was a divine purpose . right in the same line as tim buckley and his son who were both equally graced with the gift of moving music and taken from the earth young

  • nick drake and john martyn, the greatest of all time. They make Bob dylan look like a second class busker.

  • i never thought i'd see bocci ball juxtaposed with nick drake

  • This guy is one of the kings of all time

  • God like!

  • Probably like a lot of others, I only got to his music thru the VW commercial about 6 or 7 years ago. Immediately, I got more of it- and I even bought it, with money, at a local music shop. This guy died when I was 7- never knew his music then, but am so glad I do now.

  • this album is fucking amazing

  • Amazing song! Nice use of footage too!

  • this is my favourite Nick Drake song, along with One of These Things First. It's so beautiful

  • has anyone noticed that nicks fans dont fight who knows best about music.... just a thought

  • @blabalkan

Why would they? They're already listening to perfection :)

  • @blabalkan Wow! Y'know Blabs, I'd never considered that but you're completely right!

They really don't, do they? So true. You're spot on, they really are extremely passionless people with an almost complete lack of character. I am very grateful to you for helping me along to this realisation!

Only messing of course, mate. You really ARE right. YouTube is so ridiculous at times, 95% have no respect for another's opinion, lacking the empathy to realise they speak to a human person, not a PC.

  • I've often questioned the reason behind such behaviour. Whether it's a generational problem or maybe environmental, ie, faceless message forums (other reasons too, such as a general lack of politeness, respect and manners today). I eventually came to the conclusion that it was both (or all of) these things.

This is a generation who've been brought up conversing and interacting with others without language, body and facial expressions. I think the dangers of this are due to be revealed.

  • @Triplesod And also a generation that has a sense of entitlement and superiority.

  • @Triplesod -0)

  • @Triplesod You act like there weren't those types of people before the internet grew into the monster it is today. Those types of people have and always will be around, the internet just allows them not have to worry about the consequences of avoiding face to face communication.

  • @Triplesod

Agreed, it makes u stop caring for further communication since u know there will be a smart-ass pissing on u and others. But basically these are kids with no real ability of communicating what bothers them, so the piss away. By the way love ur profile pic.... He will be missed and loved for ever.

  • @Triplesod

Agree, however i think most of them are kids who dont know better ... They still have time, best wishes from Herzegovina/Croatia... PS Love ur profile picture, he was a genious....RIP Captain

  • @blabalkan He certainly was! One of only two real genius (Jimi the other) in popular music, as far as I'm concerned.

All the best from the little island on the the other side of Europe, mate! :-)

  • 0.55 te görünen adam can yücele benziyo x)

  • Shame for Nick that it didn't all get Bryter Later....

  • interesting film footage used. nick drake is missed...so sorry he gave up on life.

  • @kissmybuttdimple he gave up on cunts like your judgemental self.just die.

  • @tothewestofyou take a page from his playbook... you won't be missed.

  • @kissmybuttdimple No one is sure that it was intentional, you douchebag.

  • @VincentPrice111 well if it makes a chump like you " FEEL BETTER " then i guess taking a handfull of amitriptyline " COULD " be considered an " ACCIDENT ".

  • @kissmybuttdimple Overdosing on it could be an accident. Oh, if only it were you instead.

  • @VincentPrice111 i guess you picked that up in one of your beloved comic books. next time your gram-gram sends you some money why don't you try buying a grown up book so that you can talk about grown up stuff without making a fool of yourself.

  • @kissmybuttdimple Perhaps you should read what you just wrote and try saying something better.

Those insults are laughable. I might even be offended next time.

I don't read comics, my grandmother is long, long dead. So that obviously doesn't apply. I can't say too much about making myself look like a fool, perhaps if you were to be more specific as to how, I could form a proper rebuttal.

  • man Nick Drake was such a sad loss :( the way he went was just unfortunate

  • INTERESTING VIDEO

  • man this song is depressing. listened to this song at least 5 times today. extremely good song anyway.

  • This is my favorite song by Nick Drake, and one of my favorite songs of all time. It flows SO beautifully.

  • I hate to look like a negative person, but is impossible to love all the people, maybe we can love all the nature, but we will never be able to care about the rest of the people in the world. The love is a step in the natural evolution of the human being, we only love people who is near to us, because is the most natural, reasonable and safest thing that we can do.

  • Just try to love everyone. It's impossible if that's the reality you believe in.

  • We experience ourselves, our thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest. A kind of optical delusion of consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from the prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty..

  • That's a pretty thought.

  • Im sad to say i had never heard this song before untill Mars Volta covered it on belam and goliath. But wow amazing. Its always fun to discover new or perhaps older music lol :) great tune.

  • elliott smith was the modern day version of nick drake, why did they both have to be taken from us..

  • The 1:08 change was too jolting a key change for the mood of the tune, but otherwise a nice Phil Ochs-y / Donovan Leitch kind of piece.

  • Naah ... I liked the change.

  • excellent !! =D

  • Love the video and how it goes with one of my favorite Nick Drake songs

  • that´s one of my favorits, great bit amazing lyrics and specially in this song extremely sexy voice....

  • nick drake should be up in the list of great britsh artists such as: the beatles, the rolling stones (i don't like them but music critics do) the who and the jam.he is just so much better than them all

  • Too right mate, he has more than earned his place among the greatest British song writers. It's such a shame that he is still relatively unknown.

  • EXACTLY. i dont know who the Jam is, and i feel the same way on The Stones (i only like Gimme Shelter, Jumpin Jack Flash, and Paint It Black)... but Nick Drake is amazing. He is one of my favorite musicians of all time, up there with Jimi.

  • @smithsfan92 yeah nick was a special one

  • @smithsfan92 i dont think there really is a "much better" than the beatles, nick drake, the smiths or any of the artists that touch on that level

  • @smithsfan92 i totally agree 100% , long live Nick Drake<3

  • @smithsfan92 defiantly should be reconised more but people always use the excuse with this kinda music that it makes me sad NO it is beautiful not sad

  • @smithsfan92 I agree with him being better than everyone BUT the Beatles are the best of the best.

  • @smithsfan92 hes on a list of most influentail artist

  • @smithsfan92

Nick Drake was a great songwriter

Would be wonderful to hear what songs and styles he'd be producing these days ...

But I don't like the comparison and 'competition' thing as to who is better. Each artist/band has their own good stuff. It's all down to personal taste There is no such thing as 'who is better' ...

  • @smithsfan92

the rolling stones have got to be the most overrated band of all time lol they suck, nick drake is great tho

  • @smithsfan92

nick drake should be up in the list of great britsh artists such as: the beatles, the rolling stones (i don't like them but music critics do) the who and the jam.he is just so much better than them all

    You forgot Syd Barrett.

  • @smithsfan92 Sorry, there is no best in music (or any form of art for that matter).

  • @tighttritenight yes there is. but it certainly isn't smiths :)

  • @tighttritenight Maybe so but I believe this to be his undisputed masterpiece.

  • @tighttritenight

Yea, it's all opinions mate, wether we agree with them or not. You say potato i say potata. Having said all that, if you dislike this who cares what you think anyway.

  • @tighttritenight Actually, it's possible. Since everything in the universe is made up of formulas, you theoretically could have a "best".

  • Another wonderful NIck song. I am still overwhelmed at visiting his grave last month and seeing where he composed his music and took his inspiration from. Truly moving..... yes, RIP Nick...

  • I too want to make the pilgrimage.

Easily one of the greatest artists of all time. He went far too young.

  • RIP Nick!!!Nice Video!Thanks!
