If a goaltender fight, mostly he fights another goaltender. They have the same position in their teams, the last defense, and there can become some sort of tension between them. I bet that in some case it is an act of fighting to see who's the stronger one. And for us fans, well...it looks damn cool when goalis fight - because it's another type of fighting then when other players fight. Their equipment is a little in the way, so goalie fight's are rare but damn cool to watch.

for those who wonder what was going on...this is Providence and someone in the AHL...there was a fight or 2 on the ice, and after the players were ejected, something happened in the hallway where the dressing rooms are, behind the benches...that's where all the players are going...then the goalies start fighting, the players hear the fans cheering, and some come out to see what is going on...the goalies shook hands afterwards...
