  • Panorama. Don't think it was their most sell out LP but my favorite.

  • This was may favorite album for years. I think it's their smartest, most creative record.

  • This brings back the sight and the smells of Korea when I was stationed at Kwang Ju Air Base in 1981. The barmaids, the hookers, the drinking with my crazy buddies. Scotty, if you ever read this, I've never forgotten you stealing that hooker's moped and jumping into the benjo ditch with it! Great times!

  • I always thought it was a weird album. LOL. As a poor university student who had purchased their first two albums in high school, I found this one finished me on them. I needed more bang for the buck. Now, listening to it 30 years later on YouTube it sounds more interesting than it did then. Should've bought the then current Pretenders album instead. Cheers!!

  • Back in the early 80's, like clockwork every Sunday night, I'd jump in my Nova, toss in a Cars cassette and crank it up. After driving all night, I'd arrive at the job site around 6 a.m., red eyed and half ass rearing to go. Caffeine, Cars and the buzz of a great weekend pulled me through. Listening to such tunes as You Wear Those Eyes or Misfit Kit sends me right back to a simpler time that unfortunately no longer exists. The reality of it, it's an era that's just a fond memory now!

  • Love this duet

  • My summer with Annette!

  • Guitar solos are good in this song.

  • Excellent song... reminds me of my high school boyfriend.. long, long ago,lol..

  • A que HUEVÓN no le gusta esto?????????

  • I can't figure out why I never gave this a listen back in 1981. I love discovering "gems" like this. I'm thankful for people that take the time to post songs like this for us that are "behind the times"! 30 years later is better than NEVER!

  • Great song from their best (ok I am slacking i have not picked up there reunion album up yet) but this ruled... Why did stupid music people not like this???

  • I don't know this song have a very Bowie tinge to it. Probably why I love it so much.

  • @ziggystardust360 you're right, does sound a lot like Bowie, never thought about it before.

  • KINDA REMINDS ME OF LOU REED THIS TIME..NOT BRYAN FERRY...

  • Hearing this at the age of 8 I was blown away. I thought they were from another world.

  • @Krsna93 they were and took us to another world! misfit kid also !

  • This always reminded me of their sound in the mid-7os Cap"Swing comes to mind!!! I loved/love Panorama Thanks jj

  • I am with you fossilgirl and SupernalOne, I too have gotten back into the CARS and songs (like this one) that I didn't listen to that much when I was much younger mean so much more to me and touch me in a new way. Great Group, dynamic duo of Ric and Ben, great musicians they "ALL" were... Love these guys... Love their Music til the day I die... RIP Ben Orr... You are missed...

  • The Cars music is simply frozen beer!!!

  • you realy are the OOOOnly show! You make me Looooose mY ground conTRol!

  • I love this song. There is something so haunting about it that really pulls me in. As a child of the 80s, I have known of the Cars for nearly my whole life, but it was only recently that I started to listen to their most well-known songs more frequently. Then I began to wonder what else they had, which is a lot. Ultimately, I ended up purchasing every Cars song. Wow. These songs have been hiding from me for so long!

  • @fossilgirl8

yes, the Cars singles were good, but Ocasek and the band did some really well-done music - they're comparable (in the Panorama album anyway) with Brian Ferry and Roxy Music (Avalon & Bete Noir LPs anyway); well-crafted decidedly dark, lovely pop music, nothing out of place - I know the Panorama album, but am discovering the rest of the Cars body of work - great stuff, wish I'd listened to it all back then, but like it now for sure - cheers!

  • @fossilgirl8

This is a really good song...loved it even though it was not to popular. It was great to listen late at night when you got a good beer buzz.

  • @fossilgirl8 Alot of their great hits come from the first , second and third albums. All of my favorites. the Shake it Up album I love too.

  • great dark pop album. by far their best.

  • Wowww, i`ve not heard this song since i was a teen and the 8-track player would click during it

  • What a great song by a great band!

  • The intro sounds like Santa Clause's sleigh bells (Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer) as his sled is arriving to pick up the Misfit Toys.

  • @FastPonyGT actually it sounds like crickets chirping to me.... the beginning I mean....

  • scottaln05- you cant be all bad if you named your ex wife after something Cars related ...again DUDE ...WTF!!! that is pretty funny..why did you divorce her?and by the way--DONT TELL ME KNOW is just as good as the rest. We all have our opinions of music and some of us who lived through them are probably entitled to stronger opinions just because of the life's experiences associated with them

  • @fenderrlee, It's "Don't Tell Me No" -- not "Know."

  • Great song, always a favorite since 1980

  • This song is hauntingly beautiful. You do the pogo, without the bounce....The lyrics are so cool, and quirky!!!!!!

  • @randowoman

funny you mentioned that line....the solo before that verse has a quirky....almost Asian sound to it.

  • I can't see The Cars existing in any other era than when they did.If this isn't New Wave,I would like to know what is.

  • @multigenremusicmvmnt perfectly put

  • I like how this song featured Ben AND Ric.

  • I never liked the production on "Panorama." Sound is/was too grinding. This tune and "Don't Tell Me No" survived with some charm. Great lyrics, great vocals, bad mixing board.

  • @ScottAln05 dude ...wtf

  • @fenderrlee, There is much to learn from your wisdom. Like, the word "Dude." And letters "wtf." It evidently takes too long to type "All Cars songs are great, I saw them before I was born, I named my kid Ric, I re-named my wife "Benjamin" before she divorced me," etc. It's easy to be a super-fan, but it doesn't mean much if you like every song, except that you lack taste. The bottom line is the producers screwed up on all but 2 songs on this album: You Wear Those Eyes and Don't Tell Me No.

  • @ScottAln05 you wear those eyes was best listened to after a bowl and played loud with one speaker on each side of you

  • When i first heard this song I thought Ben was channeling Jim Morrison lol ... I love this gem! thanks for posting Jack :)

  • Hermoso tema de los cars....el solo de guitarra es fantastico , como todos los que hizo ELLIOT en the cars

  • Elliot Easton is very underrated and at times under utilized.Great band!

  • @cemetaryrun Elliot is a VERY underated Guitar Player.... He has own sound and style but is always overlooked.

  • @skyprop not by the fans he s not

  • "Strange" songs are too few and far between for my taste, at least coming from the music industry these days.

    Fortunately, there's now the net.

    Anyone like The Cocteau Twins?

  • Lots of bowie here...great guitar...Miley Cyrus should cover this...great solo Eliott

  • Miley Cyrus should NEVER touch this song. This song is a genuine classic. If covered, it should be done right. Besides, its way to good for the likes of....."her"...

  • @GuitarSG89 I hope Miley Cyrus was a joke! I'm not a big fan of covers in general, and not too many bands or performer could cover any Cars song without totally missing the mark. Killers come to mind maybe...

  • @ktbk43 Miley Cirus Covered this?!?!

  • @GuitarSG89 i didnt know she covered You Wear Those Eyes, I m going to go at least listen, i never knew this

  • this is epic Boston rawk...very cool...The Rat/Landsdown Street

  • MAN! The 80's---the Cars, AC/DC!, The best Metallica records, Judas Priest, Hall & Oates, the best METAL, the BEST New Wave, the best music decade ever. Blows the 60's , 70's & 90's away---anyone in agreement?

  • You weren't even BORN in the late 60s,... how would you know about psychodelic music???? Don't knock what you didn't experience.

  • Im not knocking the 60's but pound for pound the 80's music is better by almost every standard of measurement---better songs, more aggressive, more technical, in some cases more melodic. 60's music lacked focus with a few exceptions.

  • Better songs, melodies and more aggressive??? Ya, like The Doors, Cream, Steppinwolf, Moody Blues, Rolling Stones, The Byrds, Crosby Stills & Nash, Bob Dylan, Yardbirds (which included Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton) The Beatles, Iron Butterfly, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple, Vanilla Fudge, The Animals, Kinks, Zombies, CCR, Donovan, and on and on and on....

  • ok, artists are all pretty good, some more than others, but when compared to AC/DC, The Cars, Judas Priest, Accept, Iron Maiden, Metallica. Look, I like Deep Purple and Zeppelin alot---but they never had songs like AC/DC.

  • Sorry.....but in my opinion (I've been into rock music since the mid 60s and LIVED it....including WOODSTOCK) I don't believe ANY heavy rock band compares to Led Zeppelin....NONE of them. I think groups like AC/DC and Metallica (and others) were aftermarket copycats. I attended one of Zeppelin's concerts in Seattle back in 1970 and STILL remember the rush everyone got.

  • I have to disagree. AC/DC have a more intriguing and powerful anthology of songs. Much more energy than Zeppelin, much more staying power. And dare I say, more original than Zeppelin too. Zeppelin were great though.......

  • You have the right to disagree, but I think the numbers say differently.........ESPECIALLY with the "staying power". you mentioned. Zeppelin is the BEST known heavy metal band in the world, bar none....and their ability to go from heavy fast licks to slow meaningful melody (like Stairway to Heaven) is EXTREMELY well known and COPIED to this day....

  • You know, I didn't want to invoke the "numbers" argument because I thought it not pertinent-----its a question of style, greatness, etc.---and after all we can both agree that crap like Michael Jackson and Britney Spears numbers is a testament to the stupidity of the aggregate. However, in some cases numbers do mean something. And since you brought it up---ac/dc has FAR outsold Led Zepellin, Back In Black alone has sold more records than the entire Zepp Catalog. If you don't believe me look up.

  • Also, Zepp is definitely NOT more well known than ac/dc. Also, AC/DC has crossed more generations, with a much wider age fan base. I repeat, Zeppelin does NT have more name recogintion than AC/DC nor have they sold nearly as many records as AC/DC.

  • @Gravelandart

LMAO!!! Are you high?!? Dude Back in Black has sold an astounding 20 million copies but that isint even close to the 200 million album sales that Zep has (side note; I was lucky enough to see the Back in Black tour) The actual numbers of total albums sold are quite close as far as world wide sales go but keep in mind Zepp hasent released a new album in 30 years! Lastly as much as I LOVE the 3 chord playing of Angus especialy in the Bon days, he is no Jimmy Page!!

  • Rob, No, I'm not high, are you? You are wrong, Back In Black has actually sold more than 20 domestically in the U.S only, and counting international sales the entire ac/dc catalog has far surpassed Zeppelin.

  • @Gravelandart

Not sure where your getting your numbers or info but back in black has ony sold 49 million world wide no where near the 200 millin Zepp world wide. Zeppelin 4 is 37 million alone! And acordidng to all the info i can find ac/dc is at the 200 million mark for world wide sales as well

So lets see, Zepp. 10 albums 200 million in sales. AC/DC 30 albums 200 million in sales and still releaseing new material.

  • Ben is singing the verses, sounding a bit like Ric (quirky and all), then Ric sings the chorus.

This was the best album cover they had.

  • Strange song? No. Mesmerizing...YES!

  • Ben sings?

  • So quirky! Love it! <3

  • I love PATRICIA....

  • After gorging on The Cars and Candy-O, Panorama was, strangely, a big shock to me. It took me a while to "get it" but once I did, I was hooked! I see it as second only to Candy-O and think it's The Cars most daring and creative effort. RIP Ben Orr.

  • This song has some really pretty words to it. I like alot of the odd, sometimes off the wall music that the Cars have done. Not many people know this song, but its like a rare gem. I like it.

  • I remember going on a camping trip with my family when I was 13. we went into town to a mall before going back home. I had both The Cars and Cany O already. I had my folks buy me this album. I couldn't wait until I got home to listen to it. I love this record.

  • I was 14 when this album came out and it will always have a special part in my life..I love these guys..

  • Yeah, shame on those f-in critics who trashed this album... If this had come before Candy-O, things would've been A LOT different people... ;)

  • One of the forgotten Cars songs and albums. This one was always overlooked but much better than any that followed.

    God I love this song!!!

  • :) This is one of the tons of reasons I have loved these guys since childhood.

  • Maybe I'm ahead of my time. When I bought this album, I played it over and over again. My needle could barely take the constant vibration...I also played the Devo's first album (the one with Freedom of Choice) and The Who, Who's Next over and over again during this time. Playing this music constantly is still appropriate today.

  • @pamphish yeah i was a big fan of the Cars and Devo, they were both way ahead of there time. I had that Devo album too and played the hell out of it. its a great album and the one after it "The New Tradionalist" took a long time to find it on CD.

  • From the second I placed the needle on the wax of Panorama, immediately got hooked on this album as much as Candy-O but in a different sorta way. This is great mix of electronic and rock music.

  • I am SO GLAD I am not alone!!! I did the EXACT same thing in 1980..and am now doing it with the CDs. I never tire of this music-the soundtrack of my life, really...

  • "You do the pogo without the bounce". Panorama is terribly overlooked.

  • You're welcome!

  • Just take your time,

    its not too late.

  • This is one of my favorite songs off of Panorama - probably one of their best slower songs. It's a shame that Panorama doesn't get the praise it deserves - I think it's really on par with their self-titled and Candy-O.

  • we drank frozen beer. my girl looked at me as if i mad. so it was!

  • I thought Ric Ocasek sang this.

  • LONG SUMMER NIGHTS back then, chasing girls, no responsibilty, and just hanging out. Man, life sooo much more enjoyable. Great Band!!

  • a personal top ten from their catalog and one of their most underrated songs, on the model of double life from candy-o... subtle yet hypnotic and insistent, with a yearning, poignant, extended crescendo... thank you for posting this fantastic hidden gem of new wave rock and roll!

  • Yeah.. it is understated yet so yess. I wore out my car's Blaupunkt cassette player in the late-70s listening to the first three albums over and over and over. This had some personal connection to me. Great days, you got it!

  • Very unique critique. Quite elegant.

  • who sings this??

  • Umm.

    Is this a Quiz???

  • no. i can't tell who sing this song, thats all.

  • Ben Orr sings the verse, Ocasek then chimes in with the bridge/ chorus and then Orr sings the last two lines before they start over again.

  • Well Little Lady.

The name on the picture say the bands name.

And...Benjamin Orr was the BASS guitar Player, and part time singer as well.

Pretty kool hey,one of my favorite bands.

I'll send you one of my favorite vids by them...seeya.

  • ok, thanks.:) i didn't know who was who and got a little confused. i know, if i am wrong, there were two lead singers and he was one of them.

  • Just-take-your-time...

    it's -not-toooo late...

  • For...

    Val.B...

    Love ,WAYNE.

  • The Cars yeah!

  • Good comment, Clockworktim. I agree with you, fellow Cars fan.

  • Thanks for posting. The Cars were my all time favorite group growing up in NY. Drove my friends crazy always playing them. This was a bizarre song, however & I thought so at the time. Too minimal & average & lacking surprise to be one of their better efforts. In fact, this was a weak album, in my opinion. They bounced back right after this with two great albums "Shake it Up" & "Heartbeat City". I haven't heard this in years. Long live The Cars & their unique sound & all the great memories.

  • This album grew on me in a major way! Don't think it's weak at all...Different yes, but still rocks!
