Leonard was on top of his game after the two fights against Duran, Bonds, Kalule and the first fight with Hearns. Hearns in the meanwhile was on top of his game in 1984 when he defeated Duran. In 1989, Hearns proved to be the better fighter against Leonard during their 2nd bout.
Hearns was cheated in both fights. The 1st fight shouldn't have been stopped when it was. He was hurt worse in the previous round when he was knocked though the ropes.
The second fight I thought Ray edged out with the knockdowns, but it was very close, because Hearns looked out on his feet at times. Had that been a 15 round fight, Hearns would have been stopped again.
I see that you are definitely bias. After that statement I don't value your opinion. Expecially when Leonard to losing the 2nd fight. P.s, I'm from Detroit so I might be a lil bias as well.
I misstated, I meant Hearn edged out with the knockdowns, but it was very close, because Hearns looked out on his feet at times. Had that been a 15 round fight, Hearns would have been stopped again.
Angelo Dundee has always been one of my most favorite characters in Boxing. He totally called this fight before it ever happened - the true sign of a good trainer.
Look how young Emanuel was! I notice he's saying about Leonard what he would later say about Mosley: the man is trying to sell himself when he's just a quick-handed slugger. Ironically, that derisive comment would prove to be TOMMY'S undoing. Leonard HAD to slug to win.
this is legendary stuff...two thumbs up to the uploader

Not only is the admission coming from a RL fan, but the admission more importantly came from RL himself! Years after the fight of course!

Leonard must have been a bit of a bum. Every fight he's had someone pops up to say he got beaten.

Hearns was done. Steward said as much, he said he had no problem with the stoppage.
