look has nothing to do with music and while the change in Jolie's look has gone hand in hand with the change in her music, I have liked all phases of her career. Still it's interesting to see that she was much plainer in her look before and although she hasn't reached HUGE success she has reached success. So, I say why does success create the need to transform from Plain to Made-Up? There's something to be said about this.
Everything that I love about music is in this performance. Thanks for the upload but getting Jolie`s name wrong and not having the song title in the header is pretty piss weak.
I've watched this many times (discovered it via the Be Good Tanyas). It's the best version on YouTube and JH doesn't do anything remotely like it that I've seen or heard yet. Several references to New Orleans including the "old ninth ward" and those previously mentioned. Does Jolie mean it when she sings: "And I'll dance at your funeral if you dance at mine"? Cause she won't be!
miss holland... you can stop now, if you give up music and go work in a store, and spend the rest of your time on earth wondering if you were any good as a songwriter...you were, and i dont think you would be able to top this one... sorry if thats a depressing thought, ha!
the new Orleans Second line is not hard to figure out if one so wished , I think Jolie may have done research or may know first hand . It might be a clue "the living and the dead?" traditional hence all of the rest on this?
Saw her in New Orleans 9/26/09...she is fantastic...great artist...sold her own merchandise...that was something you don't see every day. So glad I saw her live...really enjoyed. Thanks JH.
awkward progression I took on utube.. 1st was a beautiful innocent looking girl who could sing.. now this -a beautiful girl still and beautiful voice.. but looks like she is in pain of mourning... I am be wrong......who cares
this feels like ole john henry, man versus machine.... according to the lyric sheet printed in the booklet of the cd this song is on...jolie wrote "if nothing else we've got that old second line." so there you go, mystery solved.
Hey you got something really special here. Great song and image and I really like the look of your guitar. All that aside I really enjoyed your song and I think your voice is pretty unique. First class! and 5 Stars

A second line is the crowd dancing at a New Orleans funeral. The first line is the family, the second line is everyone else. Love this version too.

One for the history books. That ol sucking line..... every lyric is too good to be true.
LVdancerbabe 2 years ago
i thought it was "second line"
ferriswheeljunkie 2 years ago
Well the majority of sites I've checked for lyrics say sucking. Though some versions have it as second. So, idk. Whatever you like best I guess. lol
LVdancerbabe 2 years ago
interesting. i wonder which it is. what's a sucking line anyway?
ferriswheeljunkie 2 years ago
Not a clue, it could mean anything, but I didn't write the song.
LVdancerbabe 2 years ago
Is it a line... that sucks?
