  • The physics part is all nonsense, but David is a brilliant teacher.

  • This is a dose of medicine, not a panacea. Look at Dustin Johnson, very little lateral movement. Matt Kuchar, all arms.

  • @corusa Its not a cure all, they are just tools to help you feel more of what is going on in your body (the drills). They only person that can make the change is you when you feel something that is off.

Also this is not the only way to power the golf swing, you can use combinations of various muscles but they have to be balanced between the centrifugal force pulling you forward and the counter weight moving in the opposite. If this doesn't occur some energy will have to go back into your body.

  • To proslayer: the swing plane you see in David or any other "gravity" player is unique to his or her physical attributes, ie: height, bone structure, muscle bellies, etc. On the subject of power, the more muscle you use in your swing-- the less mass one can utilize during the delivery. The DVD's explain the physics of what David discovered when it comes to power application.

  • some very dubious pseudo science going on there!!!!!!!

  • earltpt please do elaborate I would be happy to further explain anything that is unclear.

  • this isnt really true.... fred couples and jack nicklaus did have 'flying elbows' but not this weird ass arm swing at the top, and im sorry but you cant have high club speed, but a small amount of force on the ball, thats not possible unless you just simply mishit it...

  • @proslayar

I have played golf with the guy in the video (Noah). He stripes it 300 center cut every time and hit club head speed is in the low 100's or so. I have been training with David for 10 months. My club head speed is less now and I am hitting it 30-40 yards further. Before I was 290 and did not know where it was landing. Now I am 320-340 and can point to where it will land before I hit it. There is no standard way for the arm to drop in the slot. It can drop in early or late.

  • @metaman8 - Anyone know what happened to Noah? I don't think he's teaching G.G. right now. Heard he shot some big numbers (including 88) in some pro qualifying tournaments. I thought he had a great swing.

  • @proslayar

I believe what he is claiming is possible IF you consider that you are allowing the full mass of the arms and club (from the top of the swing) to rotate into the ball without subtracting from the potential mass by contracting the muscles of the arms, hands, shoulders, chest, and back. Or, to restate it, it is the acceleration of the clubhead through the impact zone from the top rather than the absolute speed of the clubhead that transfers best into ball speed.

  • @swingawaysmooth It is possible to have a fast moving clubhead hit the ball with the rotation of the body momentarily stalled. Then impact is not supported, and only the weight of the arms and clubhead transfer to the ball. It your core is moving through impact, and properly connected to the arms and club, more energy is transferred to the ball, and a slower moving clubhead can then actually hit the ball further.

  • @JJMcKinnon1

Im with you on that. That would just be the missing piece of my explanation. I just ran out of characters to include the body rotation.

  • i played golf yesterday. i hit the better then i have in years, excited about golf again and thats after 1 day of doing the drills at the range. thanks david.

  • thanks for the info jj . i got the book recently, trying the drills. its hard to change after 45yrs. of playing.

  • @wasagahusk I recommend David's DVD from 2002. He updates the one-footed drills with cross-footed ones instead, as they are easier on the body, and harder to fake. He also adds foreward routing drills and a driver drill that is the quickest way to become a great driver of the ball. My advice is don't give up on the drills as they are feeding into your regular swing, even when you are still getting poor results in the drills. Stay in the drills 95% on your practice time. It works on everyone!

  • To add to my last post, note the touch Bubba has in his short game. This easy, effortless look to his short game, and his touch, is evidence of the physics of a gravity player. ( Think Phil Michelson and Fred Couples.)

  • does bubba watson uses gravity golf?

  • @wasagahusk I would say that he does, at least to a large degree. Anybody that slight of build, who hits it that far, is not using upperbody power, but whip-slinging it with a counterfall like a hammer thrower. He counterfalls, finds the rotational edge of easiest core rotation, and then he whips it like mad from his core rotation, with his arms going along for the ride. The gravity swing in its purest form internalizes no energy back into the body. I'm not sure if Bubba is 100% pure, but close

  • I met David Lee just a bit over two years ago. I have all his videos, his book, three of his putters, and have been to his school. His unique method has taken this 50 year old former hopeless hacker, into the magical realm of effortless, pure physics golf swings. I have already taken a solid 18 strokes off my scores, and am at peace with golf because I KNOW what I am doing now, and have the key to steady further improvement. I LOVE the drills, and how they teach me! David Lee is the best!!!!!!!

  • If you've been playing for a long time, it is a huge job to have it implemented into your brain. It took me a few years, thousands of practice balls, but I feel this is the worthiest thing I ever did to satisfy my ego as a golfer. It makes a very big difference from the arms-only swing I had for 32 years prior to the gravity swing. It does not make me a better putter, but the perfect shots I regularly do, are bringing me a better satisfaction out of my golf game. I started working on it in1996.

  • I've been surfing for this and none seems crystal clear about it. I knew about "Let the gravity be your buddy" but don't know the physical rhythm. Now I can have a smoother swing tempo. Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
