@operafreddy about 6200, which is about stock for an LS1. I'd love to get an LS3 for it, and move the 1 into the '70s Chevy K/5 Blazer I'm picking up, but apparently we've not figured out how to make money grow on avacado trees yet...
@Classikstyle I've heard that when some people do LS swaps, they can use oil pans from different cars with LS motors, For example: Chevy Camaro, Pontiac g8, Pontiac GTO or maybe an SUV oil pan, or none in this case? Just wondering cuz Im interested in this swap and really like how urs looks but I'd like to keep the stock suspension.
@nocki5oh I used the stock camaro pan but shortened the sump by about an inch and a half. I could have left it alone had I raised the front of the engine by about 2 inches. I think the "easiest" solution is dry sump, but its by no means the cheapest. There's a new "LSX hotrod pan" that has the same measurements as my modification too I believe.
@nocki5oh I'm pretty sure you can leave the towers. The hardest part is making the oil pan fit around the x-member. If you make that work, the rest is easy.
@xzibit82 Yeah, it should. Like I said above, getting the oil pan to fit around the stock x-member is the real challenge. Everything else is pretty straight forward. The stock cast-iron headers also work with a little modification to the collector flanges.
Seriously, have none of you haters ever heard of a 30s ford with a Chevy engine? You know why people do that?
Cause it makes sense to put an engine that fits better, gives you more bang for your buck, and can be repaired for less.
OH, and cheaper with a broader aftermarket availability for parts than many ford engines. I used to be a fan of the 302/351 ci. platform, but when I was introduced to something superior (LS series engine), I made the switch.
@classikstyle Dont forget that ALOT of Chevys have ford parts like the mustang II front ends ect.....That is Hot Rodding, steping out of the box and being creative. I love your setup good job. No need to explain it to them if they havent figured it out they prob never will.
smart my friend very smart, will last 10x longer with that LS motor, don't let these Ford guys get to ya. hell, i'm doing a 383 swap in my 93 Mustang as we speak : ) haha come guys we're all in this together, can't we all just get along ; ) i like Ford's i'm just playing with ya! i want to do a Coyote swap in a Fox body sometime in the future. i'm a fan of the Big III altogether. Mustangs, Chevelles, Darts, Cudas, Camaros, i like'em all and they all have their good and bad points in history.
henry will come down and slice off your head... what you have done is a crime to humanity and car religion... Ford with a chev motor? what kind of twisted person are you!
You are excited about how far you left a black mark. Black marks mean no traction. If you have a nice car, you do not want to leave a mark or a very short one. You need to get traction gear installed and/or better tires.
Nice! I love the idea of puting LSX's in other cars! Personally, Im gonna stick with a ford when I by a stang...I know the LT1's, and LSX's better, but I just love the sound of the fords!
Crap, I accidentally removed a guys comment about a 240SX with an LS1 - sorry! I actually really want to put an LS3 in a 300ZX, since I used to have one. I absolutely loved that car, and miss it a ton. GM's putting out a new crate engine LS3 with 430 BHP that is C.A.R.B. approved for about $8k, and it would be awesome in an old Z32.
It actually wasn't all that difficult. The hardest part of the whole things has been headers and the damn shifter, since it's an automatic. We put a Mustang II IFS in it, got rid of the shock towers, and then had to modify the headers to go around the steering shaft. Other than that, it was a breeze.
My dad has a '66 Mustang with a 306 Ford race engine (not Ford Racing - its custom built) that puts out 430 ft-lt and 500 hp. Ford is ALWAYS better - at EVERYTHING.
My dad grew up around tons of Chevys - mainly because since they broke down so often, they had to buy a lot of them. He went to Ford as soon as he was able to. All my family owns now is Ford. We have had not 1 problem at ALL out of any Ford for 30+ years ever since we bought our first Ford new.
I've got a 5.0 '69 FB, but I really like the LS1. It's a more compact (and IMO a better engineered) engine that has a lot of easily unlockable horsepower. It's a lighter weight engine than any of the Ford blocks, the electronics are simple and by-in-large more compact. I have put one of these in a '74 911 Porsche, and have a lot of working knowledge of the engine beyond just "drop in and drive". Additionally, there are a lot more aftermarket parts available for LSx's than there are Ford Mods
@veyronsstink Too bad your wrong. I know a guy who had a stock Hi-Po 289 in a '65 fastback. He put a roots-style supercharger on it and the 271 hp instantly became 578 hp at the rear-wheels. Im not too sure at what boost it actually ran at, but it wasn't too much because it was an everyday driver.
one leg burn out can be done for ever, invest the money into a posi and enjoy the launch, not counting how many feet :) i just installed trac loc posi in my 68 mustang, well worth the money :)
I've actually got a Posi for it, but it needs a rebuild. The regular 8" is in it just so we can drive it on and off the lift while we work on it and other projects.

@classikstyle Just think of how long that burnout woulda been if you had a Ford engine!!
It woulda been not just 28*3, but that (84) times 5 (420)!!

@mengle2004 no you are completely wrong, fords should stay as fords and chevs should stay as chevs!
