Hey man I have a question and need help quick. I hooked up an external IDE drive to a sata computer via USB. It doesnt read it now. Almost positve the USB cable is no good. Inside the external case are SATA hookups as well. Can I install the IDE drive, and then connect it via the SATA ports? And if so what else would i have to change? The master slave jumpers or anything in the bios
@5214428 Yes, these devices should let you connect a IDE or SATA drive to a MAC - that's the cool thing about these devices connecting via USB.
As for master and slave when taking about IDE, this is simply a way of distinguishing between two drives connected to the same IDE ribbon cable. Typically the hard disk drive would be the master, and the CD drive the slave.
Search for 'Parallel ATA' or 'IDE' on Wikipedia and you will see a page with a whole lot of info about it.
hi again ZarockNZ, sorry for missspelling your name, i saw the video again and saw the name brand, i have an adapter from eforcity and found out that i can connect the brick to my sata drive the same way, just that i have to connect the molex to sata connection directly, your video has been very helpfull thank again, bless you.
hi Zarock, i enjoyed the video, what is the brand name of adapter you are using? and where can i buy it, i was very interested in the power brick molex to sata connetion , thanks
Thanks I was wondering how it is done. Question, I have a 2.5 ide laptop computer drive, do I connect it directly via the ide/ usb cable to my new laptop to transfer data, I have heard that some laptops will not have enough power to run the 2.5 ide drive and a external power supply is needed but how would one connect it to the 2.5 ide drive/? Thanks
Hi. I my flatmate has a spare 2.5 ide so figured out how to connect it using the adapter.
Yes you are correct; the USB port by iteself does not supply enough power to operate the drive. This is why some brands of adapter have a second USB plug to get additional power.
The brand of adapter in the vid comes with another power connector that I did not show which connects the molex from the power brick to a small 2 pronged port on the side of the adapter and this does the trick.
im using this to flash my xbox lol

I have 2 adapters and I used them to scan other hard drives from other computers instead of buying the antivirus software for 2, 3, 4 etc. computers.

Thanks for making this video.
I have a Blue screen of death situation, basically windows has died on my pc.
If I have this device, can I read and write to my pc hard disc if I connect it to my laptop?

Is the technical term for what I would be doing 'data recovery'?

Yes, doing this sort of thing can be considered Data Recovery.

Hi there. Yes as long as the HDD is not totally corrupted then yes you should be able to copy your personal data off it on to your laptop.
