If you think about it, pale aliens with giant black eyes is a very close match for a man in a spacesuit, which ancient cave drawings/statues resemble. All religions seem to point at some being which made man in its image, so maybe these "aliens" are just men from the future visiting us, tthose who made us, more advanced humans, if you will.
