  • I... Think I will listen to this to lull me to sleep every night. However, this might just make me lie awake... PLAGUED WITH LUST.

  • that scottish accent makes me feel all tingly inside

  • Best reading of the sonnet's I've ever heard. As with Hamlet, David Tennant gives life to the words that 21st century ears can understand 400 years after they were written. Good stuff.

  • I think that I have a reason to read Shakespeare now...swoon.

  • Which sonnets does he read?

  • wow, im totally laughing at myself for being so enchanted by this XD

  • David Tennant could read the Phonebook and it would sexy.

  • There is a guy who lives in my city that looks SO MUCH like David Tennant! Now ifonly he sounded like him ♥

  • Thank you David, I know you read this for me. <3

    - to those who would disagree ssshhhh let me dream--

  • Ahh, I remember these sonnets from my Intro to the English Major class in college. Too bad I didn't have this to listen to then. I mean they weren't bad at the time at all, but this would have made them a billion times better.

  • hot panty-hoes there david.. you a babe in Shakespearian ettire :)

  • Ohh, Mr. Tennant, ohhhh~

  • Oh yes, talk Shakespeare to me.

  • This is not a Shakespearean reading.

    This is audio porn.

    Ohh, David, ohhh...

  • Idk, it was the guy from Dr.Who did this.Talented!!

  • I need this to be played always in my ears.

I NEED to see him in MAAD like BURNING.

  • when i can't sleep or i'm stressed out, i listen to david tennant's beautiful voice :)

  • I saw DT in Much Ado on stage this summer. I knew he would be good but......! Words fail me. And not just because I am a big fangirl! He was born to do Shakespeare. Utterly, utterly brilliant. When he said, 'I do love nothing in the world so well as you. Is not that strange?' I just about fell off my seat. Catherine Tate was pretty good, too. Best money I ever spent!

  • Damn...Shakespeare and David Tennant...Amazing!

  • :) love

  • sonnets 17 and 18 my two faves, i guess i should thank my English teacher now: Thanks =)

  • Who let a Dalek near the dislike button?

  • Congratulations on the birth of this fair child of yours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And just before before Davids 40 birthday. Good timing, that. I can't see any deep trenches in his beauties field though.

  • Beautiful Shakespeare comment :) Thank you x

  • More than a hundred hearts would be too few

To hold all the love that I have for you

  • Love has naught to do with Valentine's day. It must be made like bread, watered like flowers It's learning to respect, honour and obey, and chooses believers, but not doubters The Greeks' split love in five – homely xenia is one, lusty eros is another; familial storge and affable philia – heavenly agape being t'other Love is what happens when your happiness rests on how your dearest feels every day. Once found, hold on to it but I digress To my wife, dog, family and friends I'd say
  • Does anyone have a download link for the audio?!?! Please?!?!

  • @Mariswimmer7 mp3ify.com You can download any audio you want.

  • @sekirk no there is nothing at all wrong with you I too don't go to parties but instead would LOVE to see David Tennant do a Shakespeare play :)

in the words of Luna Lovegood,"You're just as sane as I am."

  • so would rather go see a Shakespearean play then go to a rock concert (well maybe for wizard rock) I(love his voice !!! Thank you sooo much for posting :) !

In fact for my 18th birthday i got to see Phantom of the Opera at the fox theater and it was amazing!!!!!

  • @twilightnerd16 :O I hate you!!!! LOL was it good?

  • @invaderpink yeah it was AMAZING!! :)

  • I love david and shakespeare this year in english we are reading Hamlet (my favorite play) and my english teacher HATES SHAKESPEARE!!! I thought that was a requirement for english teachers! She can't even read The Tell Tale Heart (Im a big Po fan 2) with any feeling!

  • SO GLAD he's using his real accent...I believe in people using their real accents for Shakespeare, unless it's in a specific setting that requires another. Also wonderful to hear the sonnets read, by a fine actor. Thanks for posting!

  • id recognise his voice anywhere!!!

    i looove him soo much

  • I love him sooooooo much!!!! and I love shakespeare too...omg is it possible to melt?

  • @tabbykatification if it's something you love and care about than don't keep it to yourself! I'd check to see if your school has a literature club of some sort or maybe a speech team? It's perfectly fine to love it, but it's healthier to express that love with other people :) than you'll see just how much fun being yourself is.

  • OK, so I'm twelve and I like Shakespeare. I just love his work and think he is a literary GENIUS! I would much rather see Hamlet than go to a nightclub or whatever. I have about seven if his sonnets memorized, and soon will have memorized the others. Is this "normal"? I normally don't care if I am normal or not, but this is one thing I have always cared about. Is it OK to like Shakespeare more than real life? Also, did the Globe Theatre really have 14 sides?

  • @tabbykatification

Hey Tabby, you sound like a smart kid who identifies with something timeless and beautiful, something that kids in your age group just don't get. But remember the purpose of playing is "to hold, as twere, the mirror up to nature." You can't lose your connection to real life because that is what Shakespeare's work illuminates and it's where he drew inspiration. A true player should love and thirst for life, so go out there and LIVE IT! It's gonna be ok.

  • @petersoup Thanks!!! I totally understand everything you said. I think I worded my comment quite badly, but never mind! Anyway, thanks for everything and I'm so glad you replied to my comment. We are learning about Shakespeare at school, and most the people in the class are doing really badly at it, so it shows that my knowledge of practically EVERYTHING to do with Shakespeare has come in handy.

  • I'm almost 20, and not really as well read as I should be, but I'm actually picking up my Shakespeare books again... And Shakespeare plays, especially, are difficult enough to a native English speaker (or so I assume), but English is my second language, so it's tough :P And yeah, I, too, would rather watch David Tennant do Shakespeare than go to a party, or, indeed a rock concert - and that's big, coming from me; I'm a huge rock junkie! I guess I'm just a bigger Tennant fan than a music fan :P

  • Simply marvelous!! Converted the YT link to mp3 so I can listen to this brilliant reading of Shakespeare, well, anywhere!! :D

  • besides hamlet, are there any videos of his plays?

  • Sekirk-there is NOTHING wrong with you..I'm in the same age group where people want to party, but like you I would much rather be listening..or watching..David Tennant :D

  • Verdammt noch mal! Wo gibt's hier deutsche Dichter?

  • Which sonnets are being read?

  • @mango3331 In order, sonnets 2, 7, 9, 17, 18, 11, 14 and 154.

  • I fall asleep to this every night. It never gets old. Like he's lulling me. :)

  • he needs to read for audiobooks. i wouldn't care it if love and war. i could listen to him talk for hours.

  • That's it - I'm SOOO downloading this and getting it on my mp3!

    Awesome accent he's got.

  • so. i'd love to see him in macbeth. i love his accent and i love that play. he'd be fantastic.

  • oh this is amazing! Two of my favorite things, I could melt!

Is there anyway you could post the sonnet numbers in order?

  • oh my gosh! this is awesome! i love this man!

  • okay, the man could read the ingredients on the back of a shampoo bottle and make it sound sexy...

... but give him Shakespeare, and O...M...G... i thought i was gonna faint.

  • <3 The Bard and <3 Tennant. *double fangirl sigh* What a good vid.

  • He's got such a voice... <3

  • This is possibly the sexiest thing I have ever heard...I already loved Shakespeare but if I didn't, this would have made me love it immediately <3

  • @drwhorox92

    omg i totally agree.

  • LOL at the picture at 38

Ah, his voice is so good- he does Shakespeare justice

  • his voice is so soothing... and he so fits it i hope i see more shakespear from him!

  • most people my age want to got to parties or to rock conserts but me? no i want to see David Tennant do Shakspeare! there is something wrong with me...

  • In that case there is also something wrong with me xD

  • @sekirk i like rock concerts. and i definitely set up a recording for hamlet on wedenesday. :)

  • @sekirk There is nothing wrong with you, unless there is something wrong with me too. Which is quite possible, sorry wasn't much help there.

  • @sekirk No nothing is wrong with you I'm the same way and I'm 16

  • @1ElizabethO I'm nearly 17 but I'm exactly the same :P
