Apparently the replacement to the Murcielago will have an all new 7,0litre V12 which will produce some 700-740hp. In 2011 or 2012.

Sadly the old V12 will be retired after serving for decades as THE Lambo engine.

Well nothing, but also everything. If I spend a million pounds on a car, I would expect it to have some serious performance. Not that the Veyron is slow or anything, but remember when it was trumped on the Top Gear track by that DIY job kit car Caterham R500? Not very prestigious that for the super-exotic Veyron was it? Point being, there are many other exotic cars for less than half or even a quarter of the Veyron's price that'll be just as fast if not faster in everyday life and on the track.

Sorry but when You buy a Veyron You don't just buy HP. You buy that beautifully stitched leather carefully chosen to not have mosquito bites on it. You buy that hand made indicator switch made of highest quality metals. Finally You buy a car that destroys everything in a normal use on a road. Caterham is a fast track car but it's also a cheaply made piece of ugly shit. Zero precision, zero build quality, zero emotions from a designer point of view. I wanna see You in that Caterham in the winter

I'm not sure you entirely grabbed my point there, but I wouldn't buy a Caterham or a Corvette over a Veyron (if I had a million pounds to spend on a car). I would buy a Pagani Zonda which is my ultimate favourite hypercar, much more beautiful from both inside and outside than the Veyron IMO, and unlike the Veyron's sissy DSG gearbox, the Zonda has a proper manual gearbox. And the Zonda's hardtop version costs half as much as a Veyron.
