KOF '98 is non-canon

KOF '99 to KOF '2001 make up the NESTS saga.

KOF '2002 is non-canon

KOF Maximum Impact 1 to 3 (the third only released in Japan, with the 2nd on called 2006 in the US) make up the Mephistopheles saga.

KOF 12 is non-canon.

That's the order in a nutshell.

okay, firts im from mexico city and during the 90's there was a pretty huge KOF rage, so i started investigating about the plot to KNOW WHAT I WAS PLAYING so religiously.

it starts at 94, there are three main SAGAS, 94-95 (rugal SAGA) 96-97 (OROCHI saga) 98 its not a canon story, and 99-2003 (N.E.S.T. saga) this last saga was pretty lame
