Uhhh... who says we pay for it? Kidding, but seriously, there's a lot of programs made for Windows, and while I'm dual booting with Linux I have to say that I usually turn to Windows when I'm looking for a program solely because of the fact that there's much more support and you don't have to do everything through a terminal or install every driver for everything that you want to use. (I don't mind terminal, but I hate re-installing NVIDIA drivers, LibUSB, etc...)

Like all GPU intensive programs such as CAD CGA Folding at home, i have used wine before for a few things, and for FAH there is a "port" for the GPU client and in ubuntu, either with wine or with the ports it ran about...... 15% slower and GPU ran hotter. Thats the main reason i havent switched to linux completely.
@denvera1g1 Do a google search for WineHQ followed by the name of the Windows program you would like to install on Linux to find out how it works. As for your port, I don't even know what program your talking about.
ok i saw your video and i have to say i agree with it for the most part but in reality people who use windows dont have the experience to actually change the way the OS runs, people who run linux usually do. pretty much i would use linux but i use photoshop and the other adobe suit products and since there is no alternative on linux i will not make the switch
@halo3pownage Hmmm that's funny. After I switched to Linux and started using Open Office to create files in Adobe format I didn't need to buy that software any more.
@halo3pownage Ok dude. First of all MS Office runs on Linux if you use PlayOnLinux. It supports Office 2003, 2007, and 2010. But OpenOffice still runs much better. I only use gimp to do special effects on still frames of video, and it's awesome! Like the black hole you see my car dissapearing into. If you want to run Adobe programs go to google and type in the name of your program followed by winehq and press enter. See what you get. And even then if it says it won't work it can in PlayOnLinux.
Idk, Windows is looking to close XP updates 2014 and I am not a 7 fan, No user friendliness in maintenance. I haven't seen to many speed improvements but there are a few however changes I do like, no disk for SW downloads on HW upgrades and faster loading for SW boot times. I see people are not to impressed of the linux OS but I'm on the fence. All the SW upgrades you'll still be able to get on XP combined with HW upgrades I don't think the XP updates will matter much anyway.
Linux is only practical in Server, Supercomputer, Thin Client, and small home use. If you have no need for big programs like Office 2011 (because OpenOffice is crap compared to it), Adobe Premiere/Studio HD/Adobe Photoshop (Because GIMP does only so much) then by all means Linux is great, but it's not practical for majority use yet. Unless your an experienced computer user or only use a computer for internet, get linux
@LittleBIGRacer I only use my computer for internet and a little computer savy but 2014 they are talking about stopping support on XP and if they don't straighten out the new windows programs soon I think I'm moving to linux. I never have tried it though but Ive been looking it up and I do like its speed, I just don't know how reliable it is all around.
@shanejoel2 Then good for her, but if I showed my grandmother linux, the first thing she'll ask for is Microsoft Office. Linux isn't for everyone, and if linux was made for practical use, and was vastly designed for ease, why aren't more OEMs giving the option? Why aren't education buyers and school districts getting Linus devices. My computer dual boots Windows 7 and Linux, and I avidly use both, but I'm just saying, Linux isn't for everyone.
@LittleBIGRacer thats what Microsoft wants you to think. Its what you've been told how to think. You've heard and seen those comments before. And now, just like mainstream 'news' - you actually believe it.
@shanejoel2 Oh wow, so now you're treating Microsoft in the way of North Korea? Seriously? Are you honestly THAT poor? or just THAT stupid? I told you I use both (I'm on Linux right now) and this computer I bought originally came with Ubuntu as the default OS. Also, what the fuck is Mainstream News? Stop being a paranoid bitch/Cheapass who can't pay 100 something dollars for something supported by top names/someone who can't leave the home without a tin-foil hat.
@LittleBIGRacer Your comment revealed your more than obvious lack of years of experience. Or, in terms you might understand you are most likely 12, hence your bedtime comment, and my wanting to disengage. But, since you are such a cunt, ill go ahead and respond to idiocy. Even if microsoft was free, I would never use it. Its worthless. I have better things to do than scan for viruses, reboot, and the constant maintenence. Windows is garbage, period. the fact is costs, is just another 'lol'
@gxycybro I dont need to watch a video on how windows and linux work. But the video is an example of linux having better effects using far less resources than windows.
If you don't have a problem with Windows, do yourself a favor and don't switch, don't expect a miracle where your computer makes your life so much easier and you become more productive.
If you ever used Vista, UAC was called "annoying" because it alerted you about everything, "trusted computing".
Why download chrome if you wanna get away from corporate nonsense? Chrome phones home all your browsing habits to Google.
@alex94539 Vista also was the most glitchy program to though. It slowed down and started chugging. crashed allot. I like running vista look alike and some vista styling programs on XP though. If XP wasn't going to be stopped supported in 2014 Id never consider switching but I wont Vista and windows 7 ! computer has it and I'm not a fan, user friendliness out the window. Idk though, I think with all modern upgrades in Soft Ware and Hard Ware and safety XP's updates wont mater much anyway
@alex94539 Over glorified? Why would I want to pay $100 - $200 for a crappy operating system that gets infected by shit every 2 weeks? If you have bad feelings about linux, then you are most likely just a windoze fan boy, probably because you are a gamer. Linux is far superior to windows in every aspect except gaming. So for a large section of people that are unaware, linux can make computing much more fun.
@alex94539 miles ahead of Linux? Just 'lol'. Your 'points' are pointless. I happened across this video and saw you spreading lies and bs about linux. If you dont like it fine, but dont try to act like it is not a superior operating system compared to your gaming os 'windows'.
You're just attacking me. Ad Hominem (again). What lies have I spread about Linux? Bro? It seems you're the one spreading lies about linux. Looks like you're mad and stupid.
If you ever get a virus, that's because YOU messed up. If you don't know what I'm saying by kernel, do yourself a favor and stop replying; you lost the second you attacked someone you know nothing about over the web. I'm not even going to reply anymore. You're plain stupid.
@alex94539 "do yourself a favor and don't switch, don't expect a miracle where your computer makes your life so much easier and you become more productive." LIE. It is easier to install linux than it is windows. FACT. I dont care who you are and no, im not your bro. Now run along and defrag your hard drive, or reboot or something.
@leshefes Drivers are always free xD you never have to buy a driver for hardware you have in your pc. and if you need to pay you have been pranked or somthing if you cant find the driver of nvidea just call nvidea and ask if there are driver for your OS and if there yust give them your Card Id you can find that on your videocard. and they wil say where you can get the right driver
@ReptilianPsycho If you saw our SourceForge project you would know that we are working on basing it on Debian, however remastersys does not work properly on Debian.
@usacomputertec Well, I believe it's a onboard 'shared' video card. Might be ATI, it is a bit old. We're talking about 2000-2001 timeframe :) It's a Compaq.
You almost sounded like you WANT us to belive that your laptop is broken, not only you repeated yourself like 4-6 times regarding your laptop being messed up but the most funny thing was when you pressed the Y button.
After pressing it you seemed not remebering that your laptop has broken keyboard, but after few min(s) and one video cut you remebered why the Y button didnt work and said that your keyboard is broken.
Dude! What the heck. No need to say I'm technologically inept. I have plenty knowledge of both Windows and Mac and I'd appreciate it if you didn't talk down to me. I'm only here to gain knowledge.
Kaspersky, iAntivirus, Sophos, ClamXav, and many more. There are a few antivirus programs for Linux but they were developed to keep WIndows and Mac viruses off of web hosting servers and sense 95% of the world's web hosting servers and file hosting servers are Linux, while the servers are not affected the client computers are.
In actually macs work better than windows pcs and like linux they don't get viruses people. I had a windows pc and I got one virus and it wiped my entire harddrive. I have a mac and haven't gotten a single virus. Macs rule. Windows sucks.
@premierexecutor I'm typing this on a Macbook pro and can tell you whatever happened to your hard drive was user error. I would never choose OS X over Windows 7 running on bootcamp. I've been using it for 2 years now, don't have any virus protection on Windows 7 and have yet to have a problem with it. The upsides of using windows far exceed that of using OS X. You'd have to be technologically inept to believe that OS X and linux don't get virus's, and to believe it functions better than windows.
@premierexecutor You know why MAC's start running like shit after 2 years of operation? They mask there Viruses. My comp. tech has one in his shop now for that problem LMAO he told him to keep the piece of shit now he don't know what to do with it. Instead of wiping your whole drive try using a virus scanner and quit bitching thats what there made for. SPYBOT search and destroy, superantispyware, malwarebytes all do wonders. S.B SnD is fuckin badass.
I can't make ubuntu 10.04 or version 11 work on my computer so I doubt JU linux will work on my windows 7 ultimate 64 bit computer either. I forget the error msg but I know it doesn't work for my win 7 or vista for ubuntu as a dual boot.
Its fun when it works reminded me of windows 7 I guess but its very fragile and I re-installed it 3 times because of OS crashes, it doesn't play well and instead of ctrl-alt-delete, it just crashes and reboots. I'm just not patient for these kinds of problems.
As a relatively advanced user familiar with Windows, Linux & Mac, I find Linux to be one of the most customizable and adaptable operating systems out there, but it's reliance on the terminal for some features just needs to end for it to take off with "basic" & intermediate users. Yes, Windows & Mac have a command line, but it's required much less than in Linux. This distro looks pretty nice, btw.
heres a solution. buy a mac pro. put three hard drives in it. triple boot, one for windows, osx and linux. best of both worlds, and you dont have to moan about anything.
with out beeing glued to one spot like bill gates wants which is power over your computer is always been about power and not what the user wants Linux is one operating system to over come that power and i do think in say the next 10 years maybe less we will reach a point were by a good portion of people will use Linux specially with what is happening were directx is being worked on to run nativly in Linux with out wine anyways bottom line is you know have more freedom than we did before
ok what this person is saying in the video is basically with most operating system you are restricted to use of software with out paying for it Linux is a alternative in were bye programs are rewritten with out the licence key so it can be free distributed to run on linux also remember that some of the programs featured in linux like open office also runs on windows and possibly mac but the point is is free and this is what Linux is based on also gives freedom of choice aswell
I hate the fact people always put you in a box! Why can't you like all 3 - I recently joined the mac camp but enjoy linux too for it's ease of operation and customisation. Can't really compare apple to MS since apple is still very customisable and you can get almost all the tools you need to run on your mac. Linux is great too - esp for learning/scripting/automation/etc.
Love the start though (Trusted computing) - thought it was done brilliantly, then this dude started talking!
Using ubuntu on the desktop cuz XP got infected & none of the free fixes could fix it. When doing a reinstall of XP it asked for a CD that didn't come with computer. Screw it I put on ubuntu. Worked great untill the onbord Ethernet quit & I could get the windows driver for the wireless usb dongle to work. A refurb Comp with XP was less expensive than a furb Mbord, I went that route. I'll again try to get the driver working with ubuntu. That fails I try UR linux flavor a try.
@xboxnissan I no comprehenday your english or whatever that is. People do buy DVDs and USB drives with JULinux 8 v0.1.8.2 loaded on them. If you install Linux on your Zune/iPod they are able to play all formats instead of just mp3 or wav.
@usacomputertec Ok let's put that back: People won't make product for linux because nobody fucking uses it okay? if it bothers you, then just get a life instead of saying who has a good grammar or not. "install Linux on your Zune/iPod they are able to play all formats instead of just mp3 or wav." ?? Do you live under a fucking cavern or something? dude Zune/ipod takes any songs formats, and who would ever put linux on ipod? on zune? there's NO PURPOSE at all, just like installing linux on PC.
dont get me wrong i think linux is great, its just that the only problem with it i find, is when i install it (i havent tried your distro) i always have trouble getting some piece of hardware to work. I installed opensuse 11.3 on this laptop yesterday, (acer extensa 5220) and gave up on it, because i couldnt get the built in wifi adapter to work. im pretty sure it was the driver, but i think driver support is just better under windows.
@morty696 With JULinux most every WiFi card works right away, if not plug it directly into the internet and go to GO! > System > Administration > Hardware Drivers and see if it tells you if there are any drivers available. If not get the Windows XP driver for the WiFi card and use the ndiswrapper plugin to install it. This can be done by copying the Windows driver into a folder in your documents and then pointing ndiswrapper to it and you don't need to use the terminal. GO! > System...
@morty696 lol... in openSUSE you have to install ndiswrapper to get the wifi card drivers, reason being openSUSE was primarily developed as a desktop/server distro...
well, it would be a hit to microsoft if 2 or more major linux companies decided to merge and compete, but the problem is the market is shifting from the "DESKTOP" domination to the mobile and the cloud.. it would be great if a linux company would be able stand up in the competition with android and iOS.. this would atleast let more people trust linux more and try it on their computers so that they can inter-operate their PCs with their mobile.. because the mobile comes first .. right?
@shamalawy Actually the problem with Linux right now that I see personally is Canotical. Ubuntu was better off when they functioned as a community distribution before Canotical stepped in and started making decisions that forced me to fix Ubuntu and put this distribution out. I never liked default Gnome but Ubuntu always had the edge on getting apps and drivers to work. When Ubuntu added PulseAudio it really messed things up. I already have the support of IBM, Oracle, and other companies...
@usacomputertec well, this is exactly why linux won't make it.. i love linux.. i use it for scientific purposes only because the makers of linux ( no offence ) is lacking imagination, what's wrong with admitting defeat.. yes, linux is defeated in the PC buisness because it lacks to many things that windows has.. the nice interface ( 90% + of the users are not geeks) and they just want easy and hassle free OS.. linux is not easy because the developers relies heavily on the command prompt
@shamalawy You should read everything I wrote + JULinux (Just Use Linux) is called JULinux because there is no reason to use Windows when you have JULinux because it's exactly what Windows users are looking for which is why I just received the Famous Software Award. It was specifically for designing software around the end user that they wanted the way they want it. Not designing it around a geek or cyborg.
@usacomputertec and more than 60% of the PC users loves games that just installs by double clicking an EXE file and keep clicking next next & finish.. linux programmers from my point of view is LAZY.. make the damn GUI work.. everything needs to be a GUI.. when did the last microsoft windows user used the command prompt? 14 years ago.. it's not about the power of the operating system anymore.. it's about usability and easiness! this is buisness nowadays ...
@shamalawy I love games too. I run a Video Game Arcade and all I do is open PlayOnLinux and tell the game to install. I don't use a command prompt. If I want to install a Linux game I install it threw the GUI and not any text commands. You need to use JULinux before you keep on talking about what you don't understand.
@usacomputertec i hate it when there's a a fix of a problem on my linux machine and i go to the forums, and i get this huuuugggeeeeee command list and compilation ( make make install sudo fudo dodo) WTF!! if linux is such a powerful and friendly operating system that my grandma can use, then fkn make an excutable the is double click.. do it's thing and vowala!! why do i have to get lost in this ocean of codes to fix a problem for 4 hours.. time is money.. windows = less wasted time
@shamalawy This is why in JULinux we have the FINISH INSTALL. It has all that stuff you find in the forums in it already and does all that stuff for you. There is no need to do anything and guess what? If you have a problem you go to our contact us site and click call me (for free) and it calls us toll free and then if we can't help you on the phone for free we will connect to your computer for free and fix it ourselves. Find anyone who will do that for you? We own when it comes to simplicity.
@shamalawy involved in the open invention network. Maybe not financial support and yes I am a one man act with my distribution. It's only me making and supporting this distribution. The reason for that is because the Linux community has always been against making a Linux distribution with a more Windows like interface such as mine. That leaves me out on my own and I'm starting to gain some momentum. I need more people to send e-mails to distrowatch and ask that JULinux is listed there....
@shamalawy While a lot of people are into mobile devices they are spendy, cheap, and not durable and lack the power of Desktops. Soon people in debt won't care about fancy mobile devices and will grab the dumpster / used desktop and put Linux on it. You can't do that with Windows 7. I have a Cell phone and I don't text on it. I only use it for calls and to listen to my music I own on CDs. I use my Desktop for everything else including texting and making free calls threw Google Voice.
@shamalawy If people were thrifty in this way we would not want so much and be happy with what we have. Right now everyone I show JULinux to trusts me and wants it on their computer even if they dual boot. I just had a guy last week walk in my shop and tell me to get Microsoft off his computer. He didn't know what Linux was he just wanted everything Microsoft off his computer. I told him I could. How many other stores could do that for him? None! Who around here has a no virus guarantee? None!
i think linux is great and has come a long way, but the only main problem with it is compatability, with peripherals and the ability to run microsoft software natively. If linux ran microsoft software natively, most ppl would throw out their windows cds tommorow
@morty696 Who told you Linux couldn't run Windows software natively? Wine allows it to. PlayOnLinux allows complex Windows programs that require a little more on the user's side to run without any extra effort. More hardware is supported by the Linux kernel than by Microsoft's Windows. Sure cheep Lexmark Printers don't work on Linux but my old HP Laserjet 4 Laser Printer works fine on JULinux8 where as there are no 64 bit drivers or 32 bit drivers for Vista or 7. You see my point?
Hi, I had Ubuntu istalled for a while but I couldn't find any drivers for my graphic card (Asus 9550), could you tell me if I can install and use JuLinux without having the same problem ?
@DonDonTiribom According to what I see online other's haven't been so lucky that tried to get it to work. Let me let you in on a little secret ATI video cards suck. NVIDIA is the way to go but you have to spend a little more. I can get you one for about $40.00 with DDR3 memory.
@usacomputertec It looks like my old PC just got older and now it needs some serious upgrades :) , and yes, I have to agree that ATI video cards do suck but mine did the job for a while. Anyway, I live in Romania so it will probably be easier and faster to buy one from here, untill then I will use an older version of Ubuntu.
Make yourself an account and ask there for questions, there you will find many ppl that will want to help you and will offer well formulated answers (...well more or less)
And secont, pls install Envy on your computer, it will help with the searching of drivers and most of all you can find pre-compiled drivers in many places, even for ati cards. (BTW I am an ATI fan, and ati cards don't suck)
Linux is fine, but for the general population, it is hard to use. It is generally a rougher layout that people just dont seem to like for whatever reason, and another huge reason, It can't run games worth a shit.

and dont be a smartass and say i can use gimp because gimp is no where near what photoshop is, gimp is more like MS paint
oh and open office sucks balls compared to MS office which i can use cause i run what everyone else runs, windows
you know its linux users like yourself who make people like myself turn away from linux
halo3pownage 6 months ago

LittleBIGRacer 7 months ago
@LittleBIGRacer That use to be true, but JULinux has changed all that.
usacomputertec 7 months ago
@usacomputertec And ubuntu XD...I heard that JULinux actualy can run windows app's is that true?

@TRUPAC12 Yep. 80% of them. The others just take more effort to run.
usacomputertec 6 months ago
@usacomputertec Is it usning WINE (PlayOnLinux) ,or something other? Because on WINE/POL you can not run punkbuster.....
TRUPAC12 6 months ago
@LittleBIGRacer I only use my computer for internet and a little computer savy but 2014 they are talking about stopping support on XP and if they don't straighten out the new windows programs soon I think I'm moving to linux. I never have tried it though but Ive been looking it up and I do like its speed, I just don't know how reliable it is all around.
whiskeydence02 7 months ago
@LittleBIGRacer Just plain false.

@LittleBIGRacer hilarious. This isn't 1999. Stop spreading bullshit. My grandma can use it.
shanejoel2 6 months ago
@shanejoel2 Then good for her, but if I showed my grandmother linux, the first thing she'll ask for is Microsoft Office. Linux isn't for everyone, and if linux was made for practical use, and was vastly designed for ease, why aren't more OEMs giving the option? Why aren't education buyers and school districts getting Linus devices. My computer dual boots Windows 7 and Linux, and I avidly use both, but I'm just saying, Linux isn't for everyone.
LittleBIGRacer 6 months ago
@LittleBIGRacer thats what Microsoft wants you to think. Its what you've been told how to think. You've heard and seen those comments before. And now, just like mainstream 'news' - you actually believe it.
shanejoel2 6 months ago
@shanejoel2 Oh wow, so now you're treating Microsoft in the way of North Korea? Seriously? Are you honestly THAT poor? or just THAT stupid? I told you I use both (I'm on Linux right now) and this computer I bought originally came with Ubuntu as the default OS. Also, what the fuck is Mainstream News? Stop being a paranoid bitch/Cheapass who can't pay 100 something dollars for something supported by top names/someone who can't leave the home without a tin-foil hat.

This heavily over glorifies Linux...
You're showing only pros, cheater.
alex94539 7 months ago
@alex94539 You don't have to use chrome, however you can shut off all the "phone home" options.
usacomputertec 7 months ago
@alex94539 Vista also was the most glitchy program to though. It slowed down and started chugging. crashed allot. I like running vista look alike and some vista styling programs on XP though. If XP wasn't going to be stopped supported in 2014 Id never consider switching but I wont Vista and windows 7 ! computer has it and I'm not a fan, user friendliness out the window. Idk though, I think with all modern upgrades in Soft Ware and Hard Ware and safety XP's updates wont mater much anyway
whiskeydence02 7 months ago
@alex94539 Over glorified? Why would I want to pay $100 - $200 for a crappy operating system that gets infected by shit every 2 weeks? If you have bad feelings about linux, then you are most likely just a windoze fan boy, probably because you are a gamer. Linux is far superior to windows in every aspect except gaming. So for a large section of people that are unaware, linux can make computing much more fun.
shanejoel2 6 months ago
@shanejoel2
Then you probably are a Linux fanboy because you didn't address ANY points I made.

Your face when you find out you're retarded because only retards get viruses.
Your face when you find out the Windows NT kernel is miles ahead of the Linux Kernel.
Your face when you have no face. >:D
And in regards to Vista being buggy, that was because OEM manufacturers didn't properly code their drivers and rushed.
alex94539 6 months ago
@alex94539 miles ahead of Linux? Just 'lol'. Your 'points' are pointless. I happened across this video and saw you spreading lies and bs about linux. If you dont like it fine, but dont try to act like it is not a superior operating system compared to your gaming os 'windows'.

You're just attacking me. Ad Hominem (again). What lies have I spread about Linux? Bro? It seems you're the one spreading lies about linux. Looks like you're mad and stupid.

@premierexecutor From doing a web search looks like Norton,
Kaspersky, iAntivirus, Sophos, ClamXav, and many more. There are a few antivirus programs for Linux but they were developed to keep WIndows and Mac viruses off of web hosting servers and sense 95% of the world's web hosting servers and file hosting servers are Linux, while the servers are not affected the client computers are.
usacomputertec 7 months ago
In actually macs work better than windows pcs and like linux they don't get viruses people. I had a windows pc and I got one virus and it wiped my entire harddrive. I have a mac and haven't gotten a single virus. Macs rule. Windows sucks.
premierexecutor 7 months ago
@premierexecutor If that's true why does Norton make an Antivirus program to put on Macs that Apple seems to recommend?
usacomputertec 7 months ago
@premierexecutor I'm typing this on a Macbook pro and can tell you whatever happened to your hard drive was user error. I would never choose OS X over Windows 7 running on bootcamp. I've been using it for 2 years now, don't have any virus protection on Windows 7 and have yet to have a problem with it. The upsides of using windows far exceed that of using OS X. You'd have to be technologically inept to believe that OS X and linux don't get virus's, and to believe it functions better than windows.
TheSacredFox 7 months ago

@yshrnmshrfan bios is your computers Basic Input Output System
go in there by pressing a key like F8, esc. ...(shown on the screen when starting the pc.)
then you can change the priority off the devices sometimes the hard drive is higher in the list then the floppy/disc reader.
change the priority so your disc is higher in the list then your hard drive.
then restart your pc and it will work.
Had the same problem.

This distro looks pretty nice, btw.

ok what this person is saying in the video is basically with most operating system you are restricted to use of software with out paying for it Linux is a alternative in were bye programs are rewritten with out the licence key so it can be free distributed to run on linux also remember that some of the programs featured in linux like open office also runs on windows and possibly mac but the point is is free and this is what Linux is based on also gives freedom of choice aswell

I hate the fact people always put you in a box! Why can't you like all 3 - I recently joined the mac camp but enjoy linux too for it's ease of operation and customisation. dont get me wrong i think linux is great, its just that the only problem with it i find, is when i install it (i havent tried your distro) i always have trouble getting some piece of hardware to work. I installed opensuse 11.3 on this laptop yesterday, (acer extensa 5220) and gave up on it, because i couldnt get the built in wifi adapter to work. im pretty sure it was the driver, but i think driver support is just better under windows.
morty696 1 year ago
@morty696 With JULinux most every WiFi card works right away, if not plug it directly into the internet and go to GO! > System > Administration > Hardware Drivers and see if it tells you if there are any drivers available. If not get the Windows XP driver for the WiFi card and use the ndiswrapper plugin to install it. This can be done by copying the Windows driver into a folder in your documents and then pointing ndiswrapper to it and you don't need to use the terminal. GO! > System...
usacomputertec 1 year ago
@morty696 lol... in openSUSE you have to install ndiswrapper to get the wifi card drivers, reason being openSUSE was primarily developed as a desktop/server distro...

well, it would be a hit to microsoft if 2 or more major linux companies decided to merge and compete, but the problem is the market is shifting from the "DESKTOP" domination to the mobile and the cloud.. it would be great if a linux company would be able stand up in the competition with android and iOS.. this would atleast let more people trust linux more and try it on their computers so that they can inter-operate their PCs with their mobile.. because the mobile comes first .. right?
shamalawy 1 year ago
@shamalawy Actually the problem with Linux right now that I see personally is Canotical. Ubuntu was better off when they functioned as a community distribution before Canotical stepped in and started making decisions that forced me to fix Ubuntu and put this distribution out. I never liked default Gnome but Ubuntu always had the edge on getting apps and drivers to work. When Ubuntu added PulseAudio it really messed things up. I already have the support of IBM, Oracle, and other companies...
usacomputertec 1 year ago
@usacomputertec well, this is exactly why linux won't make it.. i love linux.. i use it for scientific purposes only because the makers of linux ( no offence ) is lacking imagination, what's wrong with admitting defeat.. yes, linux is defeated in the PC buisness because it lacks to many things that windows has.. the nice interface ( 90% + of the users are not geeks) and they just want easy and hassle free OS.. linux is not easy because the developers relies heavily on the command prompt
shamalawy 1 year ago
@shamalawy You should read everything I wrote + JULinux (Just Use Linux) is called JULinux because there is no reason to use Windows when you have JULinux because it's exactly what Windows users are looking for which is why I just received the Famous Software Award. It was specifically for designing software around the end user that they wanted the way they want it. Not designing it around a geek or cyborg.
usacomputertec 1 year ago
@usacomputertec and more than 60% of the PC users loves games that just installs by double clicking an EXE file and keep clicking next next & finish.. linux programmers from my point of view is LAZY.. make the damn GUI work.. everything needs to be a GUI.. when did the last microsoft windows user used the command prompt? 14 years ago.. it's not about the power of the operating system anymore.. it's about usability and easiness! this is buisness nowadays ...
shamalawy 1 year ago
@shamalawy I love games too. I run a Video Game Arcade and all I do is open PlayOnLinux and tell the game to install. I don't use a command prompt. shamalawy 1 year ago
We own when it comes to simplicity.
usacomputertec 1 year ago
@shamalawy involved in the open invention network. Maybe not financial support and yes I am a one man act with my distribution. It's only me making and supporting this distribution. The reason for that is because the Linux community has always been against making a Linux distribution with a more Windows like interface such as mine. That leaves me out on my own and I'm starting to gain some momentum. I need more people to send e-mails to distrowatch and ask that JULinux is listed there....
usacomputertec 1 year ago
@shamalawy While a lot of people are into mobile devices they are spendy, cheap, and not durable and lack the power of Desktops. Soon people in debt won't care about fancy mobile devices and will grab the dumpster / used desktop and put Linux on it. You can't do that with Windows 7. I have a Cell phone and I don't text on it. I only use it for calls and to listen to my music I own on CDs. I use my Desktop for everything else including texting and making free calls threw Google Voice.
usacomputertec 1 year ago

If linux ran microsoft software natively, most ppl would throw out their windows cds tommorow
morty696 1 year ago
@morty696 Who told you Linux couldn't run Windows software natively? Wine allows it to. PlayOnLinux allows complex Windows programs that require a little more on the user's side to run without any extra effort. More hardware is supported by the Linux kernel than by Microsoft's Windows. Sure cheep Lexmark Printers don't work on Linux but my old HP Laserjet 4 Laser Printer works fine on JULinux8 where as there are no 64 bit drivers or 32 bit drivers for Vista or 7. You see my point?

Make yourself an account and ask there for questions, there you will find many ppl that will want to help you and will offer well formulated answers (...well more or less)
And secont, pls install Envy on your computer, it will help with the searching of drivers and most of all you can find pre-compiled drivers in many places, even for ati cards. (BTW I am an ATI fan, and ati cards don't suck)

Linux is fine, but for the general population, it is hard to use. It is generally a rougher layout that people just dont seem to like for whatever reason, and another huge reason, It can't run games worth a shit.

Wow, this video way too long for what it contains, and your web page seems to be optimized for Lynx.
