They start at under a thousand bucks and solid state is standard, and a 1.86ghz would walk circles around a say 2.4ghz cpu computer that has a disc hard drive. I've used both.Who really cares how thin they both are...On performance the MacBook probably shades it but thats mainly down to me preferring mac os x to windows 7.The Sony is very powerful too,has better connectivity and is a gorgeous looking machine so I agree the Sony wins.

I recently upgraded to the 2010 15" MacBook pro for ableton live 8 music production and still use my Sony for everything else when I'm out and about.
