He was a champion teacher of the sport of boxing though. Look at all the world champions that he trained and developed...He proved that championship ability is not physical but rather it is mental and emotional.
I met George Benton up here in Canada, He acted like a true gentlman I consider myself Lucky He was working with some fighters and it seem like he knew what he was doing he took the time to talk with me about things I was doing wrong.Great guy in my eye"s
he was the world champion and he will always be... if u are framed and you loose the title then to hell with a "title". in a time where whites hated the black community i would not doubt this at all that he did not get to win from a white boxer... just like Mohammad Ali,s boxing career was ruined the hurricane was also. and if they stood in their prime years there would be no other name than theirs today. which they still are now. america is a controlled country.
@salmannadim Ok I have no idea what you are trying to say. Use paragraphs and make sure your sentences go from one point to the next.
Also, I believe that Carter did kill those people. The movie The Hurricane is incredibly fallacious. In many cases they literally changed the documented story and flat out lied. Their explanation is white man conspiracy.
Carter was past his prime at the time of the killings and at best was ranked #9th. He was never the champion or even close to becoming so.
My uncle George was one of the greatest fighters ever!!!!!!!!!!! With his talents he trained some of the greatest fighters in the world!!!!!! There will never be another one like him!!!!!! I luv you Uncle George!!!!!!!!!!!
Benton should have boxed and moved like he did against Joey Giardello in a non-title fight. He beat Giardello, who was the middleweight champ at the time, in a non-title fight by boxing and then loses to Carter in an eliminator bout for the title by slugging.
@tw69hands2 Many people think Benton was on the cuffs for this fight, as he had a history of being controlled by the mob. I'd hardly call what he was doing here "slugging", though.
The mob? Through which family of the mob? It looked like he just fought the wrong fight. Stood and traded when he had better boxing skills and failed to use them.
when a cop pulled them over to the side of the road, just like the time before, and time before that, in patterson thats just the way things go, if your black you might as well not show, unless you wanna draw the heaaaat,,,, "BOB DILLON"
These two look like a mirror image of each other....
As for Carter being guilty or not, the one thing that swayed me into believing in his innocence was the fact that the co-accused was offered an early release if he admitted to the prosecutions version of the crime and he turned the offer down. No guilty person would do that !
@blackmourning11 Keep in mind, Carter and Artis were also offered a "no risk" polygraph by the prosecution, pass and and all charges dropped, Carter and Artis refused. No innocent person would turn that down either.
I really hate the amount of people who use youtube as a way to express there hatred the pricks.
Look at the end of the day he was proven innocent, yous are saying that all the facts we get come from the movie, but Bob Dylan was white and he and many other white people wer convinced he was innocent who lived at that time, there was no real evidence against him, and at the end of the day you gotta ask one simple question...
why wud he do it that, what was his motive? he was living the dream...
there were a lot of great fighters in the 60s.griffith, carter, benvenuti, giardello, tiger, moyer even the original sugar ray was still around.and more that i cannot think of now.if hbo and showtime was around, these guys would be millionaires.
@reg5381 if hbo and showtime where around these guys would fight twice a year and only have about 30 fights in their careers hbo and showtime is one of the reasons boxing is shit now
whether or not he did it doesnt matter, the man he became is what matters.. tookie williams murdered people too but look at what he became, i was sad to read about his execution.. now with regards to rubin carter, the point is the man spent 20 years in prison and his sentence was overturned, if it was overturned that means there must have been substantial evidence to say he didnt do it, so suck on that ya bigoted fuck
Thanks for the video of this classic fight. Carter is just a beast for 158 lbs. His hands were very explosive and he really had the intimidation factor as well. Similar to a young tyson.
The problem with this world is that people like you are in it. The world would be so much nicer without you. Im white and in no shape or form do I think Im better than any other race. Who told you your better than the blacks? Just because he had a criminal record doesn't make him a murderer. They needed to pin a murder on someone, so why not the black guy? You all make me sick. If your without sin then cast the first stone. You might outta take a good look at yourself before looking at others.
So according to your theory, one fine morning the cops woke up with a bar full of slaughtered white people, then after a few cups of java they ALL agreed that they had to find some black guy to blame for the carnage . Then( in uni-sense) they all yelled out "Let's get Rubin Carter! WE all don't like him.
You are brilliant!!
btw; When you get over all of your "sickness" you should to get your head out of yer arse, and look up the facts of the case.
So black people don't commit crimes? I don't care if a person is white, black, purple or blue, if the evidence is there, which it definitely is for Rubin Carter, that person should be punished.
what are you talking about? there was NO evidence saying it was him. they took the word of a CRIMINAL who happened to be WHITE. Rubin Carter was taken to one almost blind, dieing witness, and even he could tell that it wasnt rubin who committed the crime
Man you are so naive. Getting your facts from the movie are you? Peter Pan was less fictional than that movie. I would have to make about 10 posts to give you the REAL facts in this case so instead I will just point you to the best site dedicated to the real history of this case. "Rubin Hurricane Carter, the other side of the story." It's all there.
reno573, by your comment , Im going to have to say you were there the nights of the murder. You saw the whole thing, right? You must be in the kkk. Either that or your just a ignorant skin head. The only scum that I am wittnessing is the scum you wrote. It is so sad to know that there is still prejudice people in this world. When did God ever say the white man was better? He created us all equal. Who are you to judge him because he is black? One day God will judge you. you make me sick.
Rubin Carter is a waste of time. This guy played the race card and is living a free life, when 3 people he killed are 6ft under, thats not fair. If u look at the evidence, there is more enough to secure a conviction. Its pieces of shit like him who helped O.J Simpson get the idea of playing the race card and giving non-blacks a bad name. Rubin Carter: triple murderer and SCUM.
The guy lied in his Movie. It didnt show the voilent life he led, and the REAL evidence of his trails.
"Facts" to these liberal ass wipes is like sunlight to a vampire...........It slowly destroys everyone of their lame arguments. It's really quite funny watching them flounder about. When they realise that they have no real facts to support their arguments.....That's when they bring out their tired old retorts, i.e. You're a "Racist"/"Homophobe"/"Bigot"...etc. etc.
Thankfully, America is finally waking up to these Socialist morons.
The 2010 elections will be a liberal Dem. slaughter.
What the fuck does Rubin Carter's trial have to do with socialism, you ignorant piece of shit? It's a fucking economic model, you shit stain. You're a fucking tool, please go inject air into your bloodstream you stupid fuck
I know yeah, Boxing isnt anywhere near as good now because they all defend and look for a couple good punches. However Calzaghe used to use him self as bait to open his opponent up.
@hippytans Great song, unfortunately it's also rubbish. Dylan wasn't much for research, apparently. The evidence is far more damning for Carter than otherwise. It's all but certain that he did it.
Carter lost his last 7 fights. He also got destroyed by Joey Giallardo the guy the movie depicted as having won a racial decision over Carter. One of many myths in the movie.
callin me shit listen everyone the guy tht thinks he has all the knowledge about this the guy tht everyone is listenin to does not even know how to spell the word R-E-T-A-R-D

He was much like George Foreman, though; in that he tired in the late rounds...and if you got past the first few, he was easier to beat as the fight wore on. He was very well conditioned in this one though.

Johnny Addie never had a sense of drama, great voice for an announcer but didn't know how to take advantage of the moment.
This fight destroyed Benton's slim hopes for a well-deserved title shot.
