Olympia has always been about politics. they wanted to make it big in the UK, so they used dorian. Later on they wanted a super hw freak as the face of their company, which is why they went for ronnie.

Don't forget about 94 when Dorian tore his bicep. That year to me was a toss-up between Shawn Ray and Kevin Levrone. Jay Cutler should have won it in 2001. In fact, after the first two rounds Jay was ahead, and after watching tape I don't think Ronnie's posing was that much better than Jay's. Ronnie was unbeatable in 2003. In 2004 Ronnie was bigger, but not better. He was not as sharp with a bloated gut. I think Jay should have had it that year too. I agree with Victor winning in 2007 too.
@weightmaster97 i disagree wtih coleman. he had a decended belly, his tricep and lat started to wither away due to nerve and muscle damage and he still wins just because of his name. There is always someone better.....Levrone for example looked better but because coleman had size he won. Flex....should have won quite a few times. There are only two Olympias I agree with you on, 1981 should have been Padilla !And Dorian Yates shouldn't have won in 97 , But shawn Ray Winning? I don't think so. Well I agree with 72 and 80, I would have had Platz winning in 81. I don't agree with Shawn Ray winning 97, I think Nassar should have won that year, but I think Shawn Ray should have won in 94 considering how off Yates was and how razor sharp Shawn was. WTF happened to 2001, where most clearly believe that Jay Cutler should have won! While Coleman was off in 2002, Levrone was clearly not at his best either and did not deserve to win! In 2007, it could have gone either way.

97 I can concede Nasser over Shawn but NOT Dorian. Shawn was better that Dorian in 97; the whole top six was.
2002 was one of Ronnie's lightest Olympia wins. Levrone pretty much matched him for size but had no belly. Ronnie's better years were 99 and 05, NOT 02. 02 is not considered Ronnie's most unchallenged Mr O. Read the back of his book, 'HARDCORE', it discusses his Mr Os.
As for 72 and 80 Olympias? Those arguments have been covered a million times so I won't bother.

In 94 and 97 Dorian looked like shit with all his injuries (torn bicep, tricep, quad), completely deformed! I even think that already in 92 Kevin might ve topped Dorian. Kevin was in great shape and took second, and Dorian was not yet the muscle monster he turned to starting the 93 show.

I have to say that Victor in '07 was the biggest robbery of all of these. He was so blatantly better than Cutler, but I heard that Muscletech was threatening to pull their sponsor if one of their athletes didn't win the Mr. O that year...? Nasser should have won '97 probably over Shawn and Dorian shouldn't have been anywhere near the title with that blown arm.
sorry but these guys are all just too small when compared to true Olympia giants like Cleoman, yates and Cutler.. Mr Olympia is the apex competition for body buildes and I disagree that being defined is enough.. Size and mass are what Mr Olympia means, but making that size and mass is important too, but shredded Shawn Ray just isn't as impressive as Shredded Ronnie Coleman.. Zane did look great but Yates looked greater.. guys like Wheeler and Taylor just weren't in with a show size-wise..
theseekerfinds, Olympia giants are good if they're in shape. Take '97, Dorian had an injured arm that was even smaller than Shawn's. If you wanted a giant, you could take Nasser who was in shape that year and was equally as big as Dorian. '02 was one of Ronnie's smallest years. Levrone was just about as big but with a tighter mid-section. '07, Jay was too smooth at pre-judging.

Mentzer in 1980 was fucking monster (same weight as Arnold at that time despite being 5 inches shorter) and blew everyone else off the stage but the jack ass judges placed him 5th behind 3 small guys. Martinez in 2007 was a monster too (and without the blocky mid-section that Jay has).
@theseekerfinds The first Sergio Oliva was not too small. There were other reasons he didn't win, but size wasn't one of them. He was actually larger than most of the other guys in that particular contest. Just looking at him made some of the other bodybuilders decide not to compete that day. He went on to become one of the legends being one of the most massive bodybuilders of his day.

have to remember that sure they were probably in the best shape at the time, but it comes down to how they pose those muscles and symmetry. If you take the winner and the "shoulda been a winner" and look at them side by side, you will see the difference in pose selection or symmetry. But i do agree that they were in top shape for the competition.
Another Mr. O travesty was Haney winning in 1990. Labrada was the best in 1990, Shawn Ray close 2nd. Haney was out of shape that year, deserved no higher than 3rd place
And Cutler deserved to win in 2001 and perhaps even 2004 or 2005 due to Ronnie's protruding belly (but def. not in 2007).

@drwdak He should have won, he won as soon as he stepped on stage, watch the video, he had better arms and a better waistline than yates, shawn ray was great when it came to aesthetics and size but his size let him down, You can see in Nassers posing routine, he had a cocky smile on his face because he knew he had won and so did the other bodybuilders, before the second palce was aboout to be announced yates shook Nassers hand in advance, Yates was shocked and the crowd reaction was mixed.
I'd like to put him in somewhere possibly in another vid. I'm not well-read or viewed yet on many of his contests so I haven't seen one where he was 'hands-down' the winner. Maybe '93??? Although I think Dorian was 'on' that year. He also had some close confrontations with Ronnie in the late 90s although, once again, I'm not sure that in any of those contests he was 'hands-down' the winner.

The thing that is missing from this video is the side by side comparison to the winners from each year. Every professional bodybuilder looks great on stage alone. But standing next the winner most times you see why they came in second or third case in point Danny Padilla looks giant alone but hes 5'2 standing next to Franco he is a dwarf no offense. Victor was truly robbed though.
redjacquesa1, you have a point about the side by side comparisons. For each particular contest, there could be a vid in its own right. Sergio v Arnold 1972 has been done so many times, as has Mike v Arnold 1980.
About Franco dwarfing Danny in 1981: I disagree. Franco is only 5'5. That aside, Padilla wasn't the only guy who, imo, turned up in '81 looking much better than Franco.
Now Yates def. looks bigger than Shawn Ray, but his arms looked really bad in '97, perhaps due to an injury.
- Yes, Dorian was heaps bigger than Ray. The title could have gone to Nasser (who did place 2nd in '97). I'd have almost anyone over Dorian in '97 cause his arms were REALLY bad; he was clearly injured.
- Franco in '81 had a recovered broken leg that was so smooth there was no quad sep at all. At least four people were better than him.
- Ronnie was too small in 02. Kev had a tighter mid-sec.
- Arnold was better in 73-4, Sergio was just too good in 72.
True, you really do have to look at side by side comparisons to see who has the better physique, but regarding Danny vs Franco in 81, Franco was not in his best condition, his legs were terrible and he had bad gyno in some of the chest shots, Franco should have placed behind Padilla and Platz in that contest

There are only two Olympias I agree with you on, 1981 should have been Padilla !And Dorian Yates shouldn't have won in 97 , But shawn Ray Winning? I don't think so. Well I agree with 72 and 80, I would have had Platz winning in 81. I don't agree with Shawn Ray winning 97, I think Nassar should have won that year, but I think Shawn Ray should have won in 94 considering how off Yates was and how razor sharp Shawn was. WTF happened to 2001, where most clearly believe that Jay Cutler should have won! While Coleman was off in 2002, Levrone was clearly not at his best either and did not deserve to win! In 2007, it could have gone either way.

97 I can concede Nasser over Shawn but NOT Dorian. Shawn was better that Dorian in 97; the whole top six was.
2002 was one of Ronnie's lightest Olympia wins. Levrone pretty much matched him for size but had no belly. Ronnie's better years were 99 and 05, NOT 02. 02 is not considered Ronnie's most unchallenged Mr O. Read the back of his book, 'HARDCORE', it discusses his Mr Os.
As for 72 and 80 Olympias? Those arguments have been covered a million times so I won't bother.

In 94 and 97 Dorian looked like shit with all his injuries (torn bicep, tricep, quad), completely deformed! I even think that already in 92 Kevin might ve topped Dorian. Kevin was in great shape and took second, and Dorian was not yet the muscle monster he turned to starting the 93 show.
But still no way in 2002 over Ronnie, I think back then all judges gave Ronnie first place.

I don't know why some are bitching about Coleman not winning in 2006-he was way too bloated at that show. And many thought Jay Cutler was better in 2001 so the 2006 result evens out.

It is truly a shame that such titles were stripped off those most deserving them. The King of Kings “Levrone” won twice, both in 95 and 2002; I don't care what anybody says, there are always external factors that affect the final outcome in many sports.

I have to say that Victor in '07 was the biggest robbery of all of these. He was so blatantly better than Cutler, but I heard that Muscletech was threatening to pull their sponsor if one of their athletes didn't win the Mr. O that year...? Nasser should have won '97 probably over Shawn and Dorian shouldn't have been anywhere near the title with that blown arm.

sorry but these guys are all just too small when compared to true Olympia giants like Cleoman, yates and Cutler.. Mr Olympia is the apex competition for body buildes and I disagree that being defined is enough.. Size and mass are what Mr Olympia means, but making that size and mass is important too, but shredded Shawn Ray just isn't as impressive as Shredded Ronnie Coleman.. Zane did look great but Yates looked greater.. guys like Wheeler and Taylor just weren't in with a show size-wise..

theseekerfinds, Olympia giants are good if they're in shape. Take '97, Dorian had an injured arm that was even smaller than Shawn's. If you wanted a giant, you could take Nasser who was in shape that year and was equally as big as Dorian. '02 was one of Ronnie's smallest years. Levrone was just about as big but with a tighter mid-section. '07, Jay was too smooth at pre-judging.

And i have to disagree with your statement that yates looked greater then Zane. Two different era's. Yates only has zane beat in mass. Zane was a far better poser, better symmetry , and im willing to bet a healthier body. Being he lasted from what 68-83 if im correct?. I think body building lost its art. People dont think of it as beauty anymore.

Mentzer in 1980 was fucking monster (same weight as Arnold at that time despite being 5 inches shorter) and blew everyone else off the stage but the jack ass judges placed him 5th behind 3 small guys. Martinez in 2007 was a monster too (and without the blocky mid-section that Jay has).

@theseekerfinds The first Sergio Oliva was not too small. There were other reasons he didn't win, but size wasn't one of them. He was actually larger than most of the other guys in that particular contest. Just looking at him made some of the other bodybuilders decide not to compete that day. He went on to become one of the legends being one of the most massive bodybuilders of his day.

have to remember that sure they were probably in the best shape at the time, but it comes down to how they pose those muscles and symmetry. If you take the winner and the "shoulda been a winner" and look at them side by side, you will see the difference in pose selection or symmetry. But i do agree that they were in top shape for the competition.

Another Mr. O travesty was Haney winning in 1990. Labrada was the best in 1990, Shawn Ray close 2nd. Haney was out of shape that year, deserved no higher than 3rd place
And Cutler deserved to win in 2001 and perhaps even 2004 or 2005 due to Ronnie's protruding belly (but def. not in 2007).
IMO the biggest travesties were Mentzer not winning in 1980, Labrada in 1990, and Ray in 1997

Labrada, Gaspari & Makkawy are awesome athletes totally agree with that but the thing is tha when stand these three (3) athletes next to Haney who was the king at that time, Haney overshadow them because of his size. I guess that in Mr.O 1991 Yates won it but because of Haney retires the judges gave it to him as well in 1997 whe Yates retires from active competition.

Right, I agree, Labrada, Makkawy, and Gaspari might not be "Uncrowned" Mr. Olympia's, but you could call them "bridesmaids" so to speak.
Although I think either Shawn or Lee Kabrada should have won in 1990 mainly because Haney was off.
Also, Makkawy was only one of two guys to ever beat Lee Haney on a pro stage(83 Olympia).

@drwdak He should have won, he won as soon as he stepped on stage, watch the video, he had better arms and a better waistline than yates, shawn ray was great when it came to aesthetics and size but his size let him down, You can see in Nassers posing routine, he had a cocky smile on his face because he knew he had won and so did the other bodybuilders, before the second palce was aboout to be announced yates shook Nassers hand in advance, Yates was shocked and the crowd reaction was mixed.

I'd like to put him in somewhere possibly in another vid. I'm not well-read or viewed yet on many of his contests so I haven't seen one where he was 'hands-down' the winner. Maybe '93??? Although I think Dorian was 'on' that year. He also had some close confrontations with Ronnie in the late 90s although, once again, I'm not sure that in any of those contests he was 'hands-down' the winner.

The thing that is missing from this video is the side by side comparison to the winners from each year. Every professional bodybuilder looks great on stage alone. But standing next the winner most times you see why they came in second or third case in point Danny Padilla looks giant alone but hes 5'2 standing next to Franco he is a dwarf no offense. Victor was truly robbed though.

redjacquesa1, you have a point about the side by side comparisons. For each particular contest, there could be a vid in its own right. Sergio v Arnold 1972 has been done so many times, as has Mike v Arnold 1980.
About Franco dwarfing Danny in 1981: I disagree. Franco is only 5'5. That aside, Padilla wasn't the only guy who, imo, turned up in '81 looking much better than Franco.
Now Yates def. looks bigger than Shawn Ray, but his arms looked really bad in '97, perhaps due to an injury.

Not sayin bigger is better but Shawn Ray is narrow and didnt always have the condition Dorian had.
Padilla was 175lbs Franco was approaching 200lbs. and a hell of alot thicker with freakier proportions.
Ronnie was just more complete than Flex and Kevin
Oliva was a freak that ppl werent ready for but Arnold had charisma, and the most appealing bodyparts.
Not disagreeing with you to an extent, but most deserve second place finishes.

- Yes, Dorian was heaps bigger than Ray. The title could have gone to Nasser (who did place 2nd in '97). I'd have almost anyone over Dorian in '97 cause his arms were REALLY bad; he was clearly injured.
- Franco in '81 had a recovered broken leg that was so smooth there was no quad sep at all. At least four people were better than him.
- Ronnie was too small in 02. Kev had a tighter mid-sec.
- Arnold was better in 73-4, Sergio was just too good in 72.
I guess it's all a matter of opinion.

True, you really do have to look at side by side comparisons to see who has the better physique, but regarding Danny vs Franco in 81, Franco was not in his best condition, his legs were terrible and he had bad gyno in some of the chest shots, Franco should have placed behind Padilla and Platz in that contest
