It's been a while and I forget the details, but I believe each Toad House opens after you import and complete a certain number of level cards, which isn't even possible with just the number of cards released in the US, but you can unlock all three if you collect all the Japanese cards.
Technically those plants are a reference to a non-mario game nintendo made. Only released in japan. Super mario 2 is that game with graphic changes and some difficulty alterations.
True, and while the conventional wisdom is that this fact makes Mario 2 (USA) an illegitimate Mario game, the other game it was based on was designed by Miyamoto himself, who did not in fact have much of anything to do with the "real" Mario 2 released in Japan.
So, Mario 2 USA is, in some sense, even more legitimately part of the Mario series than Mario 2 JP, and you'll find that many, many ideas and enemies introduced in the game were repeated in later Mario games.
But because these levels are supposedly japan only, then they are a reference to a non-mario yet still nintendo game. Because in japan the game referenced is not a mario game.
1. You don't have to push that P-switch to proceed, only to take that upper route to the secret area; I just don't show the lower route you'll be stuck with if you screw it up.
2. If you want to know more about Nintendo designing and officially releasing these, there are various places to read about the eReader series for SMA4 online.
Man I hated the fact that you had to get the e-reader to do this stuff. I never got it and I wanted to do the e-world.. I could never find an e-reader!
The eReader was available in american for the mario games for a short time. I still have some of the cards for it. Just was never able to find an eReader to buy. I would assume the US version of the game would have the same levels.
@magusyilie lol i ended up coming past an ereader in canada, unfortantly i have no cards to use it for i alwatys tried to find some ereader cards for mario 3 to check these levels out.
I got a save file were u can play these levels if u want anyone just hit me up on yahoo MysticalFlame642000... I can play 32 levels on my rom I play on my psp. I just dont know if there are any more japanese levels out there..
It's real -- this is one of the extra levels Nintendo released for the GBA version of the game, distributed on special cards that could be read only be the now forgotten eReader accessory.
Basically, you'd buy a pack of cards that contained the level data in a special strip along the side of each card, and you'd scan those into the eReader while it was attached to your GBA in order to transfer the new level into the game and save it there. Only have of the level packs made it to the US.
No. There will be not all levels are on e-reader levels from North America version because these series 3-4 was never released in the North America, those are only in Japan.
If Nintendo released this for Wiiware and released new stages as DLC, I would buy the fuck out of them, but Nintendo doesn't do things that would be a fantastic idea.
Yes, I've been wishing for the same thing exactly -- either a WiiWare or DSiWare release of these levels, and perhaps even a simple level editor so that anyone could draw up a level and share it. It's not likely to happen, but it would be fantastic.
download Hello Engine 3 Lite and add 3 more skins along with the same powerups, say, this cycle: P1 > P2 > P3 > P4 > *repeats* with these skins, it will go somewhat like:
I just watched a video of Hello Engine 3. Looks fun enough, though the physics and some of the animations look a little wonky. It's cool that someone made it.
I dunno, is it just me though, or did the announcement of NSMB Wii just *perfectly* scratch the itch that I've always had for a 4-player version of Mario 3? I don't "do" "day-one purchases", but four-player simultaneous 2D Mario in the style of SMB3 or SMW? Day-one purchase.
Is there anyway to play those e-card stage thingys with emulator? I've asked some people and they say yes and no so I'm not sure. And I live in europe and they haven't released e-card thingy on SMA4 on europe version
No, you printed out the dot codes that were *reprogrammed* to work with the US version by Cait Sith, a guru of such matters who posted them online some time ago. The original cards, however, will not work with the American cartridge.
These would of been awesome to play back when I was a kid.

@phillijv actually, you needed to collect a certain amount of Ace Coins to unlock each world.
nacho8bc 7 months ago
@millieman76 You need a certain number of "A" coins to unlock each. 25 for the first, 50 for the second, and i think 75 for the third.
